Any of you guys pay nannies through one of these nanny payroll systems (HomePay, NannyPay)? I figured we'd just pay this chick weekly with PayPal, but not sure how Uncle Sam would feel about it.
We venmo ours but shes only ~12-20 hours a week. As stated I'm sure it's not kosher with IRS but I don't think we'll use her long term so yolo
She's going to be 45 hours per week (which opens up the overtime issue). Might just roll with a weekly Venmo until the end of the year and then figure it out.
Dated a full-time Nanny for a super wealthy family a while back. They paid her under the table with something like venmo. I figure as long as you're not claiming childcare to get the deduction, and she doesn't claim it as income, you're not likely to be bothered.
It’s my second son’s first birthday today. I’m out of town on business. I got to sing him happy birthday via facetime.
If you have a full-time nanny, you’re almost certainly an employer. You are responsible for the employer and employee share of FICA (~15.3%), will need to pay FUTA (~6% of certain portion of compensation), state unemployment taxes and withholding (depending on the state), and you may be required to carry or want to carry workers comp insurance. You’ll need to get a w-4 and I-9, fill out some schedules on your state and federal returns, and comply with various state and federal labor laws. I would recommend hiring a payroll company. In some states, it’s pretty much a necessity.
To follow-up on that, if you’re paying someone other than a teenager, your parents, or a babysitting agency more than $2k/yr to come watch your kid at your house, you probably have a tax obligation.
There’s been a lot of commentary on it the last couple of years. Then a few months ago, the IRS was presented with a study that outlines the extent of nanny tax avoidance, which caused a bit of a stir. I was at a CLE a few months ago and it came up there. I’ve also had a couple accountants bring it up in conversation.
Our 6 month old has slept through the night the last 3 nights. Prior to this, she had not made it through the night once. It feels glorious.
Actually, attention all— If there was one piece of advice I can give to new fathers it’s start your kid on Mom’s on Call immediately, and stick to the schedule. Don’t deviate a min. Our son was a terrible sleeper and screamed all day long. We started him on Mom’s on Call around 5 weeks old. And by the second night, he was sleeping 6 hours straight and never cried during the day. By 8 weeks, he was sleeping 10 hours straight. He’s now 14 weeks and sleeps 12 hrs straight. Everyone i know who has used the program has gotten very similar results. It’s a gamechanger.
My wife read the book and quarterbacked, but I think you can get by with just the app. I think it’s free or a couple bucks
Lil Bish woke up this morning having a lot trouble breathing. We made the decision to head to the ER instead of waiting for the pediatricians office to open. Croup and a 103 fever. Gave him a breathing treatment and a steroid shot. Seems to be doing better. Scary morning.
Update from the front lines in the battle against the Hawkeye fan wife. It was sports day at daycare and there was no push back when I picked the outfit. Big progress.
Miss Block is proving relatively easy to soothe in our arms, but is a wildcard when transitioning to being set down. We have a manual rock and play, but I think we’ll save time and energy with an automatic swing. We’ve been using a yoga ball for bouncing, so I want something that’ll mimic that motion. Any suggestions?
How old? We have been using this with our 2 month old; she’s probably in it 5 or 6 hours a day napping. https://www.target.com/p/fisher-price-sweet-surroundings-monkey-cradle-n-swing/
Has anyone's kid ever had a swollen/abscess lymph node on their neck? My daughter has one, everything is fine - it's just big and kind of red. The Dr offered to cut it out (he said for an adult he'd do it in the office, for a small child he'd prefer to do it at the outpatient place), but we passed for right now and just wondering if anyone has seen something like this and if they ended up having it cut out or just wait for it to go away... if it ever did.
Close friends of ours recently dealt with this with their 4 year old boy. Not sure how long he had it and/or knew about it, but the boy had an abscessed lymph node in his neck and at some point it became infected. He ran a fever for like 5 days, then was sent to the children's hospital for either strong antibiotics or surgery. Turns out the drugs worked and they didn't cut it out, but I don't know if they eliminated the thing or if its still there and just considered benign. So my take would be to keep an eye on it, but if your daughter complains of pain in the area or if she develops a fever out of nowhere that doesn't go away, the abscess should be the first suspect. I'd probably lean towards having it removed, personally.
3 hour drive tomorrow (without kids) with an 18 month old and two 3 month olds. Pray for me. Hoping to make it under 4.5 hours.
First long trip with 2 little ones, almost 5 and 2. 12 hours to get back home. Thinking of doing half tomorrow then the other half Wednesday so it’s not to brutal on them (by them I mean us).
40 weeks has come and gone, and he still isn’t here. We can’t induce prior to 41 weeks or it is an “elective procedure” so we’re scheduled for Saturday.
Think I mentioned that I was assigned to get little ned's first coming home outfit, which is apparently a thing. Big mistake, woman Spoiler
My 10 month old has pink eye, yet somehow my 3 and 6 year olds don't. My 6 year old had strep, yet somehow my 10 month old and 3 year old don't.
I don’t know if your kids watch these videos, but the “Ms. Booksy” series has me feeling some type of way for Ms. Booksy.
The snoo bassinet thing is $400 off today if any of your hens have been eyeing it https://www.happiestbaby.com/products/snoo-smart-bassinet
Mrs Wicked: We should cut back on the amount of stuff we get the kids this year. They already have a ton of stuff they don't even use. Me: Sounds like a fantastic idea. Mrs. Wicked last night after shopping all day with her mom and leaving me home with my 2 kids: Hey honey! Look at all of this stuff I got the kids! Me:. I'm going to the bar.
Little guy was born at 2:29 via emergency c-section. He is healthy and my wife is recovering well. We’re both trying to sleep but are first time parents freaked out about everything.
I wish it was that easy. He has been asleep since after the first hour. I’m going on 24 hour sleepless.
