Was out of town last week for 4 days, come back home and the 2 year olds vocabulary has exploded. It was crazy, she was moved up to the next class at daycare recently so I think that probably has helped being exposed to older kids all day.
My middle daughter starts pre-k next week and things are already getting dusty just thinking about it.
Anybody got a teething remedy they swear by? Using teething rings, little frozen fruit things, tylenol, teething necklace. Open to any other voodoo remedies to get the devil out of this child
About to have boy#2 ... Boy #1 is about 2 1/2. We want to move big brother into a big boy room (eviction from the baby room) but I'm torn on toddler size bed or just moving up to twin for him to grow into and getting some universal rails.
Twin. We did one of those grow with them beds and ours was in a toddler bed for like 6 months and then moved on.
So I’m dating this girl with 2 kids. They’ve stayed over the last couple nights. 10 year old girl and 1.5 year old son. The son is an absolute terror. He literally grabs everything and doesn’t stop. She lets him sleep in the bed with us and he sleeps everyway but normal. Here’s my DVDs and games yesterday he took everything off the shelf. The 10 year old is a saint and easy to deal with. This little dude is not normal

My step son sleeping with us was an issue when me and my wife first got married. I think she just felt comfort having her son next to her as a single mom for years. When I moved in I brought my tv and put it in his room and he loves sleeping in there now. So much better. Now the dog is still having trouble getting adjust sharing me with my wife two months in.
Right on the money. Both are POS but 2nd by far worse. Crazy how common this is down here. Younger brother married a girl with the same situation. I laughed and was like what an idiot. Buddy did the same. Now I’m in it
Good on you for stepping up and over looking the single mom stuff. This is strictly my opinion so take it as such, but if the kids are already staying w/you etc, then you need to make a decision rather quickly whether or not you're in it for the long haul. It's a different ball game when there are kids involved and as much as it's on mom to determine how soon she wants to bring them into your relationship since she's already done it you need to set ground rules asap for both of your sanity. Something I learned when dating my now wife was that our parenting styles and expectations were a bit different and as soon as we got on the same page things went much smoother. You also have to mentally be in a place where you're ready to be a dad soon, especially if the other two dudes aren't in the kids lives. The 10 y/o may not show it but she's probably developing some abandonment issues where as you could turn that around by showing her attention and that you care and aren't going to leave her. I met my son (I don't call him step son as I've adopted him and his biological "dad" is nowhere to be found) when he was 4 and he would already ask if I was coming back when I was leaving the house.
Thanks for the advice and I 100% agree with it. After seeing my brother go through it and them breaking up and getting back together, I figured it out with that. It’s not good for the kids to go through the breakups. It’s jusy not fair to them. The 2nd is not totally gone. It’s a big shit fest and not going to be fixed right away.

This. We did a gradual thing over the course of a year bring me into my step sons life. The hardest part was transitioning from the fun guy to take a more of a disciplinarian role. A couple weeks after we got married he told us he was ready for me to go back to my house as I was taking away attention from his mom. It’s much better now as I get off at around 3 and him and I spend about 3 hours every afternoon together. I’ve been teaching him baseball and how to ride a bike. It’s been highly enjoyable.
Date/marrying a girl that already has a child is no biggie, but her taste in previous men might possibly be a red flag against her. Really just depends. The captain save a ho role rarely works out.
Honestly from no kids to this was a big jump. I have a hard time right now telling him no and not laughing at the mess he makes a mess. Then he grabs something and I say NO and he gives me the adorable face and I cant do anything

1 to 2 mostly sucks. You're mostly trying to keep them from accidentally killing themselves in every stupid way possible every minute that they're awake.
Yep. You don't get a break period. Once my son became two he became a lot easier. Mainly because you could actually leave him in a room by himself for longer than 30 seconds and not worry about him dying. We thought we were going to miss the "terrible twos" but at 32 months they have definitely begun. Just constant defiance over the dumbest shit. Crying fits over the waffle splitting in half. Acting like bath time is torture. Crying in bed for five minutes before falling asleep whereas 6 months ago he was happily falling asleep on his own with no issue. It's still an easier phase than when they first start walking.
Yeah I agree. I let him get away with a lot more as I don’t get as worked up over things. I work for a youth organization and over see about 1200 kids so I’ve become pretty observant to behaviors that might be troubling and correct those. I end up having to bathe my son daily because he loves getting in the mud so most of the time him myself and the puppy are filthy so I just plop everyone in the shower about 30 minute before sweetums arrives home.
I have an almost 3 year old that just started doing this shit, a 16 month old who just started walking, and a 10 year old who wouldn't clean his own asshole if we didn't tell him to.
yeah and i have a newborn girl who is 5 months old who so far has been the perfect baby. cannot wait til that changes...but we will enjoy it while we can
Teenage boys are the fucking worst and test all the limits of your sanity. You guys with young kids have NO FUCKING IDEA. And I envy that. I really do. I miss the closeness and the possibility that we would be able to do things better than my father and I were able to do (though he and I patched things up in my 20s). I hope our relationship makes it through this period. I am not always sure it will. /Rant
My 22-month-old moved up to a new class on Monday, and my 3 year old (almost 4) started preschool today. No tears for the older boy, and the younger one is already well-adjusted to his new class. I'm excited for both, but it's been one day and I'm ready for them to both be at the same place again. Only two years to wait...
Got an email from our daycare place two days ago asking why we decided to not enroll with them. Shit a brick because the kid is scheduled to start daycare in two weeks. Had to wait to call them until the next day because the email came outside of business hours. Called them yesterday then I was on hold for 30 minutes, made me extra nervous because I thought they'd fucked something up and needed to sort things out before talking to me. Turns out some guy messed up and sent out a mass email and their phone systems were screwed up and they couldn't tell if someone was on hold or not. Sheesh.
the worst age is whatever age my older one is (currently 4.5). kid is just a shitbag in every way imaginable. im super excited about how this progresses over the next 10-15 years.

At least you get acknowledgement/agreement. Every interaction with my dickbag older one goes like this... Me: Hey, pal, it’s time for dinner. Come sit up in your stool. Him: Me: Dude, it’s dinner. Come on. Him: Me: Get in your stool, now. You have until 3 or dinner goes away. Him: Me: One, two, thr... Him: Daaaaaaad ooooooookkkkkkk He’s 4.5 going on 16. Every single thing is a conflict. There’s a lot more to it, but he’s actively trying to get me to kill him.
Fwiw-At the beginning of the summer I was talking to a mom at swimming lessons and her pediatrician told her kids usually make a big jump between 4.5 and 5. Our son hits 5 in November and I think we've seen the improvement in the last month and a half. He can still be a shitbag at times but it is far less often and for most periods of the day he is magnitudes easier than he was 2 months ago and we haven't been parenting any differently. Hopefully you see the same soon.
My wife has been on a work trip since yesterday. Neither of us hardly ever travel for work so we aren't used to it. Had the 2.5 year old and 5 month old by myself and getting them ready for school and then getting them to bed is a complete whirlwind. Now I'm at the office and I can finally relax. Major props to single parents.
