5 year old came home a few weeks ago from kindergarten and said she had a boyfriend. I knew it was one of those little things at this age but man did it hit my like a ton of breaks. I just wasn’t expecting that and I’m gonna freak out when she really does start dating.

Stressful day today. Took four month in for an ultrasound of her head. Gross motor skills are developing slow and she’s had a 98th percentile head for two months. Fortunately the radiologist said she just has a big brain and there’s no excess fluid. Gonna get her signed up for a couple baby physical therapy sessions though just to help scoot things along.

Good for you getting that done early, exact same situation with it daughter around the same age, but we waited too long and had to get a MRI because her skull had fused.

She's fine now, her head was like off the charts in terms of percentile and it likely affected her having trouble holding her head up when she was an infant. She wasn't developing enough muscle and was struggling with gross motor skills. She's been a little bit behind with some of her milestones but, importantly, she isn't falling behind. I'd get him some simple puzzle toys where you have to fit things in slots, probably after he's a year.

Yep wife had been tracking it for like the past two months and finally said we need to schedule an appointment. Benefit of working in a hospital is she could get someone to order the ultrasound and get us in like two days later.

So some behavior analysts say that a toddler will only put down someone they are actually comfortable putting down. They are confident you won't reject them and they can say whatever they want to you. So it's actually a compliment lol

Well fellow dad's, I could really use some extra thoughts and prayers right now. We just found out there is a decent chance my 6 year old daughter has a heart defect. Wont know anything for sure until next Thursday when we have some tests run and meet with the specialist. I'm scared to death right now. My wife is a mess. I don't know what we are going to do. Fuck....

Had our second boy on 9/22. Today he is 4 weeks (other son is 2-3/4)....

He does not sleep longer than 2.5 hours. He's maxed out at a little over 3 once. Typically at night he is stirring up and starting to make noises just over 2 hours. BUT he goes to sleep easy. He eats and passes out. First son slept longer but we had some long early nights where he didn't want to sleep at all.

I'm going to have to start watching what I say around my 2.5 year old. He's starting to pick up and copy stuff I say and use it in the correct context.

Example A: This morning we were getting the kids ready to hit up a pumpkin patch and I couldn't find my son's shoes. I asked him where his shoes where. His response, "I dont know, it wasn't my turn to watch them". I spit out my coffee and couldn't even be mad.

Later after we get back example B happens. I was laying on the floor working on a puzzle with my daughter and my son jumps on my back. I then start wrestling/roughhousing with him a little. He punches me right in the balls. Gets me good. I mean one of those where you think you're going to throw up. I asked him why the heck he did that for. His answer, "you mess with the bull, you get the horns" my wife stars laughing hysterically at that retort.

Got myself a little smartass on my hands.

You try those probiotic powders that you can dissolve in your kids’ drink? I can’t say how helpful they are if your kid has a stomach flu, but whenever our kids have those issues, we start on that twice a day and usually things start clear up within 24-36 hours, if not sooner.

As to the daycare thing, it’s just best not to dwell on the thought of how much you’re wasting on days they stay home; it will only make you sad.

Yep, we started with the probiotic packs day 1. It was especially recommended since she was getting really constipated before this stomach bug.

My wife's work is much less flexible than mine so I've been getting little done these past three days.

Daughter had her appt today. She has a pulmonary flow murmur which occurs in the top chamber of the heart. Our doctor was worried about a hole in her heart but thankfully there was no sign of one. Best case scenario possible. Our daughters pediatrician is actually a pediatric cardiac specialist so we met with him to go over the results and even he admitted he was pretty worried initially. Said it should resolve itself in 2-4 years. Bullet dodged.

On a side note we officialingly joined the minivan club last night. I've been driving a vehicle that I told myself I'd drive until the wheels fall off. Well that time came last week. Never thought we'd buy a minivan but my wife fell in love with one after driving several different SUVs and 3 different brands of minivans. I can honestly say I'm pretty impressed with them.

Our daughter has a Ventricular Septum Defect (VSD) which is a hole between the lower chambers of her heart. They detected it on ultrasounds and watched it closely after she was born. It was small enough it typically closes by age 3 as the heart grows. The specialist at Children's had declared it closed at about 6-8 months but we've had multiple doctors since then tell us they can hear the murmur so depending on her next physical at (18 months) we may have to go back in to the specialists to continue observing it. :idk:

I'm glad to hear you had a good outcome.

My son started soccer last year at 4 1/2 and it didn’t go that well. This year it’s been great. He was a little scared of the crowds in his games last year. He played baseball at 5 and loved it for the most part.

My son turns 5 next month. He has been doing swimming lessons and ice skating for a few years. He starts hockey on Saturday. He has done baseball (only drills/skills practices) for 2 summers and soccer for 2 summers as well. It is mostly just a matter of giving him a way to learn and get some energy out. Nobody takes it serious yet.

We did one on one swimming lessons over the summer. It seemed to help him enjoy the water and be more comfortable in it. Hoping to make some progress next summer. He was terrified of getting in the lake all summer, which is understandable. But loves the pool.
