my wife stayed home with the kids today cause they both were coughing and acting a little sick. Both have upper respiratory viruses and the oldest has an ear infection. Great stuff. You got to love daycare and changing seasons.

My son got into games around this age. We ended up getting him a switch. He played Mario Cart for about 3 weeks non stop and then stopped. Hasn't picked up the switch in months lol. Dad now plays Zelda on the switch so it all worked out

Son is almost 2 and we can hardly get him to watch anything. Lately Bheem on Netflix will get his attention for a bit but pretty much 24/7 he's constantly at the backdoor saying "asside?" (outside). Which I'd rather it this way than glued to the TV all the time but sometimes I wish he'd just chill and watch 20 minutes of something.

So my oldest got in school suspension. 9 years old. Teacher was handing out assignments and said they had ten minutes to complete math problems. He blurted out “your crazy”. He acts like a depressed teen sometimes.

he’s an honor roll student, gifted program and test in 99th percentile. He’s a good kid, but seem depressed sometimes and I worry. Is it normal for 9 year old boys to act like moody 14 year olds? He’s my oldest so not sure if this Is the norm at times. You can watch them lose there innocence a little each year and it’s hard to watch

I don't have kids your age, but that seems insanely harsh unless he was making comments all day. Seems like he was just being a smart aleck which doesn't seem unusual for a nine year old.

I think you're more likely to see something when he turns around 12 or 13, that's when I really started to struggle with depression and had mood disorder symptoms.

He had a couple blurt our incidents over the last two weeks that were similar. I’m not opposed to ISS since he was being somewhat disrespectful over the course of a couple weeks. He was citizen of the month las month. We have a parent teacher conference Thursday so I guess we’ll dig in more then. It’s hard to get on to the kid when he completes all his work and makes honor roll and we never have to make him do it. He just does it on his own. He goes to a really good school with higher standards than a lot of schools in the area

Hope this isn't over the line but were your children involved at all in everything that was going on in the last year? Sometimes this sort of thing is just a teacher/student mismatch and sometimes it's sort of acting out based on stuff at home. That's especially true if it seems otherwise out of character.

I mean he heard some fighting earlier this year that was not healthy and I had to explain we are not getting divorced. We didn’t fight in front of him, but one night I thought he was sleeping upstairs. I’m sure he sensed the tension too over those months . It’s been a pretty quiet happy 3 or 4 months though. Household seems to be improving.
Maybe some it of is residual from that...and it has crossed my mind

yeah. I was hoping since we have moved forward maybe he had put it behind him. Maybe just some reassurances through actions that we are a strong happy family will help. I also think he gets tired of sharing attention with 3 and 4 year old who are very outgoing. My 4 year old is like the most popular kid in the world. Every where we go people from his school, etc come up talk about how great he is and how he’s the favorite. I’m sure my 9 year old gets hurt by that. The two little ones require a lot more attention, but we try to balance it out

3 1/2 year old son gets cold like symptoms and has to go on breathing treatment with a nebulizer. Basically he has asthmatic symptoms. It’s not all the time, so far 4-5 times a year. Anybody else deal with this? Really I just want someone to tell me it will go away, and everything is going to be ok .

My son gets this as a result of seasonal allergies. Believe they call it reactive airway disease. We just have to carry an inhaler and bring a nebulizer if we think he's going to be in contact with an irritant. Have been in the ER twice with it in the past before we figured out how to be proactive all the time.

Asthma sucks. I have it and my life in elementary and middle school was lunch time breathing treatments. It got a lot better with allergy shots because allergies exacerbated my asthma.

You might try to get a reference for an immunologist to look at him. Another question would be is it exercise induced? Mine wasn’t but I’ve had some friends who only had flare ups when they exercised a lot. The vast majority of kids grow out of their asthmatic symptoms.

I still remember getting in pretty big trouble when i blurted out "that story sucked" after a short story in middle school. I had to go to the principal's office and i think they even called my parents. I was in 7th grade so only a little bit older than your son.

Sometimes kids just want to push limits and get a laugh out of other students. I certainly did. I was a pretty good kid but sometimes a teacher had to take me down a peg.

yep. we have a nebulizer we keep in the house and use when he starts weezing. They haven't diagnosed with asthma but both my wife and I have it so we kind of assume he will get that eventually. Anyways the nebulizer has an elephant on the mask and he doesn't mind using the nebulizer most times because he gets to watch Daniel Tiger with it. The TV certainly helps because he doesn't really get a lot of screen time otherwise.

Our son had it happen a few times when he was 1.5-3.5. They couldn’t diagnose any reason so they called it Reactive Airway Disorder which is just a catch all for airway closing for an undetermined reason. He just turned 5 and hasn’t had it in about 1.5-2 years. Our 1.5 year old daughter had the same thing happen in September. If I recall the stat correctly, is it a pre-asthma symptom so virtually every kid that develops asthma goes through this but about 70% of kids that have this never get diagnosed with asthma.

i also was kicked out of D.A.R.E. in fifth grade because my teacher heard me say "DARE is dumb and the cops are only doing this for extra pay" to my friends. I said that because my dad had said it, he was also right. I had to sit in the office when everyone else graduated.

in fifth or sixth grade i told one of the lunch para's that i didnt have to listen to her cuz she's a bitch and just a para, or something mean like that.

it could be something more serious duck, it could also just be hormones and the fact that it feels great to tell authority figures to fuck themselves.

this would probably be a good thread for people to confess how much of a shithead they were

In 4th grade I played the game Wolfenstein a lot on the computer, we were watching a movie in class and I drew a bunch of the guns from the game on a piece of paper. On the same paper I divided the class into teams to play the game against each other. Threw the paper away after the movie and thought nothing of it. Some asshole kid in my class took it out of the trash and showed the teacher. Teacher calls my parents thinking im going to shoot up the school or something (this was 3 years before Columbine) with the weapons from the game that somehow I'd get access to. My dad basically called her a quack and said I was fine.

4 year old got in trouble yesterday for calling his teach a stupid asshole. Of course it is right after he comes back from his dads. He constantly around his 8 year old cousin there that is a pretty rough kid. Cousin comes from a drug addicted family and is passed between several house in that family. At first we've been justifying it and brushing it off but the cousins behavior is getting worse and therefor my sons behavior is getting worse. Kind of puts us in a bind with out going to court again. We are going to have court in July though as the dad lives about 40 minutes away and can't get our son to school on time. Not an issue in day care but that can't fly when he starts real school. Sucks because we all have a pretty good relationship. Gonna suck we take some of his days away.

Due to the last two nights, I've come to the same conclusion....searched "sleep regression" in this thread and it matches up well with my Google research. Our almost 10 month old has been a beast of a sleeper for basically her entire ten months...but, these last two nights...fuck me. I'm not sure if it's some separation anxiety suddenly or her just realizing that she has some power with her crying, but she'll sleep as long as you're holding her but will throw a fit and sit up crying as soon as you put her back down in the crib. Very bad development...lol. When I dropped her off at day care today I told them to tire the shit out of her. Interesting thing in my Google research was that the regression can set in when some big development milestones have been hit as their brain is really churning at that point and I'd say the last 3-4 days she has just been crushing new things...its been wild to see...so that kind of checks out.

With sleep regressions I’ve found the best is don’t change anything. It sucks and being human you want to find a solution but chances are there is none. My wife was always trying move bedtime up, move it later, etc and those end up making it worse. Starts out of nowhere and it will stop out of nowhere. I think the only thing really worth trying is getting them as full as possible before bed.
