A couple weeks after he started Kindergarten. His daily behavioral chart was all over the place - he can't stay in his seat, can't keep his mouth shut when others are talking, etc.

There was no "punishing" the behavior out of him - he'd get emotional when you talked to him and tell you that he was trying. I think that's probably what did it. It was night and day about a week after he started medication. Conversations with him could stay on one path, he could sit in a chair through an entire meal.

A lot of parents worry, understandably, about how medication will change their kid, but other than some sleep issues when he first started, we've seen no adverse reactions - appetite, energy, etc. He, and his mom and I, were suffering because of something he couldn't control.

He started on Tenex(guanfacine), which isn’t entirely an ADHD medicine. His pediatrician called it a “receptor opener”. It helped regulate his sleeping patterns and slowed down the “pings” in his brain, but wasn’t intended to be a long-term solution. It ran its course sometime this summer and shortly after this school year started, he moved to adderall, combined with a lower dose of Tenex with really positive results.

My single mom sister just put her 14 year old son in some mental facility because he got caught doing some graffiti in a school bathroom
Then she couldn't be bothered by my wife to ask about it the same evening because she was at her play practice
Poor kid, I could go into lots of details of how fucked up she has raised that boy, but I can tell you she has fucked that poor kid up,

Wife chaperoned our 5 yr olds kindergarten class to a local farm for a field trip. They had a blast. She got milk a cow and pick up a chicken. I dont know why it hit me like it did but I got a little teary eyed when I saw the pictures. It was one of those moments where I just saw how big she’s getting.

My son was born last night after getting called in for an induction on Friday due to preeclampsyia. A week and a half early measuring in at 8 lbs 13oz and 22 in. Wife was amazing all weekend and she went through a lot. I’ve wondered how I’d react when I first met him after always hearing the stories. I could feel my life change instantly as soon as I heard him cry. Had to be the quickest I’ve ever broken down and soonest I’ve ever loved something. Unfortunately the little guy is having trouble with blood sugar levels and has to be in the NICU until they can get it right as he’s having trouble eating. I’m hoping he won’t be in there multiple days - the nurse told us minimum 12 hours though. I’m worried about it but trying to stay very positive especially around my wife. She’s napping as she didn’t sleep yesterday so I went down to visit him for a little bit for the first time since they took him.

holy shit. the last 4 days have been pure hell. our 19 month of daughter has turned into a monster. i mean from the time she wakes up until she goes to sleep she is crying, hitting, throwing shit. I think she might not be feeling 100% but this goes beyond not feeling well. My poor wife is getting it worse than i am. the kid is an absolute terror to my wife, shes somewhat decent with me. We are doing everything we can to stay calm and try and talk her through the screams but it aint doing shit.

This is probably just the normal turn you see before they go through the "terrrible twos" (yes other posters i know the twos aren't shit compared to threes, fours, teens, middle-ageds). A few weeks before our daughter turned two it was like a switch went off, her tantrums became a lot worse, she whined a lot, and started to become a lot more bossy.

Haha don’t get me wrong I get a little sense of pride when the daycare says she’s definitely able to move up early because she just dragged the biggest kid in class down by his collar when he took her toy.

It’s a little less enjoyable when she’s bullying her older cousin in front of the whole family.

My nextdoor neighbor called because water was running into their yard from my side. My almost 3 year old turns the hose on by himself and doesn’t turn it off. We are trying to figure out how many days the hose has been running full blast and how much it’s going to cost.

I think it’s a natural reaction. You want to know what’s causing the symptoms so you can fix it, but sometimes you can just chalk it up to coincidence.

Had some friends of ours that had a kid that displayed some mild symptoms of autism within a couple of weeks of getting a round of shots. Not even technically on the spectrum I don’t think. They decided it was best to no longer vaccinate going forward. This was at a time that I had a 1 year old and was extremely worried that it might influence my significant other to have doubts about vaccination.

We went to lunch with them and it got brought up as a topic of conversation and I found it extremely difficult to be polite when they asked my opinion. Not sure what the point of telling this story was, but it seems that Moms these days prefer anecdotal evidence as opposed to control studies. I liken it to presidential elections where people vote with their hearts instead of their heads. Introducing emotion into the equation affects mankind’s ability to make rational decisions

Anecdotal evidence in the form of a long winded Facebook post make me irrationally angry when I read it and the emoji filled comments.

People will trust a random blogger with 3,000 followers over multiple doctors and scientists with results from 30,000 hours of concrete research.

Same. It’s infuriating and the groupthink that ensues is equally as frustrating. It’s not just vaccines, either.

Makes sense if you think about it. What’s going to elicit a more emotional response? An anecdote or a scientific study? It’s just that some of us are smart enough to see through it and some of us aren’t

I am fortunate to have never encountered any anti-vaxxers in our social group or extended family. I would have a tough time taking them seriously and I wouldn't let my kids be around their kids.

My wife and I were friends with quite a few couples at one point who were childless. The first couple had a kid and became anti-vaxx and at least two other couples followed and don’t vaccinate. We don’t speak to any of them anymore aside from a couple who have become close friends. They just had their first and vaccinated. It sucks because I liked some of them, but my word I just can’t overcome that kind of stupidity and I truly feel for the children. Disassociating wasn’t hard though. You mention you believe in vaccinating and they get super defensive and accusatory. It was pretty natural.

Every daycare, preschool, and school requires regular vaccination records to be submitted here. It would be a monumental pain in the ass to submit a religious exemption. Not that there's a ton of people like that to begin with. I've never run into any that were outspoken. There are closested greenies that may think that way but nobody says it. There's also probably a tiny religious population that home school their kids but they're all in the sticks.

Our daughters daycare had multiple cases of the flu in a class. Thankfully mine is fine, she's vaccinated, but some of the kids who got sivk weren't. I understand the flu vaccine isn't the same as your regular immunization, but fuck I hope some of those idiots learn a lesson given that their kids are going to be out for probably a week.

Toddler is turning 3 in February, and we think it's time to make a move to a bed. He's got a nice sized room so I'm thinking we just go ahead and buy a mattress he can use for longer, and get a queen. I grew up sleeping on one, but wife had a twin. Wondering if we should just do a twin so he's used to that size as a little man and gets older if we ever decide to do bunks etc.

Also, figured an online mattress company would be easiest, just research the best ones and find a good sale.

Anyone have any pros/cons for this process?

I don't think it really matters either way. We have a toddler bed for my son and it's smaller than a twin. He loves it cause he can climb in and out of it himself. The con is it's a tight squeeze if we lay with him when wakes up in the middle of the night.

We got our two year old a toddler bed a month or so ago and she adjusted fine. However a couple of weeks after that she started immediately getting out of the bed and laying next to the door and falling asleep on our hardwood floor. I tried to convince her to stay in bed by saying her stuffed animal and pillow always stay in bed, which she now understands, and is still falling asleep next to the door. We have to go in there about 20 or 30 minutes after we put her down to make her get back in bed where she'll fall asleep again.

My 5 year old has influenza B and croup right now. Both of our kids got flu shots but obviously it missed this strain. My daughter is under 2 and has no idea what is going on. She loves her brother so it’s hard keeping them separated when she continually walks over to him trying to play.

It is sad seeing your kids so uncomfortable. I can’t imagine going through something much worse.

Because, like you just posted about your kid's flu vaccine, they're not 100% effective. Generally it's fine if your kid is healthy, but you're taking a small risk if they've contracted something and are contagious but not showing symptoms yet.

For the exact reason you posted above in regards to your kid's flu vaccine. I would be paranoid about the vaccine not working and I'm not going to knowingly expose them to a kid that could be carrying measles.

There is a pretty significant difference in the efficacy of the flu vaccine and MMR vaccine. I would certainly avoid exposure to a kid with symptoms but measles are rare enough it seems overly protective to me to avoid a kid that hasn’t been vaccinated unless there is a known outbreak (and the news definitely runs stories when there is). Avoiding playing with kids because their parents are idiots that you don’t want to hang out with is totally reasonable to me however.

Yeah I mean that's essentially where I stand. I admittedly don't know much at all about vaccines/viruses etc beyond your basic knowledge. Like I said, better safe than sorry and if their parents are stupid enough to be duped into the anti-vaxxing movement, then there is no telling whatever dumb shit they are exposing their children too.

My kids are healthy with no known increased risks/vulnerabilities so I’m not going to go out of my way to avoid things. For instance, I have no idea if there is an anti-vaxxer at daycare and wouldn’t move my kids if there was. If he wants to do a play-date with a kid I’m not asking if the kid is vaccinated. That is mostly how I was thinking about it.

“Kiddos” is my new pet peave word. I went to a kindergarten open house and the teachers and principal kept calling them kiddos. Cross that place off. It was too annoying to listen to.
