Been teaching my step son for 2 weeks. He went from learning how to trace letters in day care to being able to read sentences. I don't have a clue on the model they use to teach kids in early education but it sure seems as though they could be doing more. He just needs a little push and one on one learning.
My kid (grade schooler) has complained for months about school being boring because he knows all the material and has known it the entire year. After going through this for a couple weeks now I could see how, if done correctly, homeschooling could result in much faster learning. You just have to worry about your kid being a weirdo.
Yeah. I just looked at amazon and they have those Dick and Jane books. Prob gonna get a set of those. I think I can get him reading by summer so he will be ahead come K next fall.
My daycare is having issues. They are shut down indefinitely and parents don't want to keep paying. They initially asked for everyone to pay full tuition so they could continue to pay the teachers. Well a lot of parents got pissed about that and asked if they could pay whatever % of the tuition used for payroll but wanted to keep the rest. She then sent out an "anonymous" survey and asked parents how much they felt right paying. I voted 100% to pay all of it but that's mainly because i'm in a lucky situation. My mom is watching our kids for free and my wife and I are both working from home and making normal money. So we are in a position where we can continue to pay them and it's not a big deal. We would potentially have a different response if one or both of us was laid off or if we had to continue to go into work and pay an in home nanny or whatever. Apparently the vast majority of parents voted against continuing to pay tuition and now they are operating on a strictly donation bases. Nobody owes anything but they will take whatever anyone is willing to give. All of the teachers are filing unemployment. Fucking sucks and I feel terrible for them. The owner of the daycare is telling us that they are in no danger of shutting their doors for good and this is just a short term payroll issue, but i'm starting to worry about the place if DHS doesn't let them open back up til May-June.
I've started the process a little late with my daughter. She's 4 and I finally got the pedaling motion down with her. Now to get the whole handle bars at the same time part...
the way you post its no wonder your in a condomdron ? you cant post how can you even think anything .
honest answer -- why should I just give you the answer to your question and I am capable of doing it right now but why should I ? how have you excluded me ? think maybe I should just watch you .
We were lucky. The home daycare we found was run by a PhD in special education and was retired from running a school districts entire special ed program. She pushed the hell out of them from 6months old through the end of preschool. At 1 he had over a 100 word vocabulary. If we would say for example he started calling the dogs “yaya” over the weekend (one dogs name was Maya) by that afternoon he had learned the word dog to use appropriately and the word Maya to call her. He was reading before he turned 3 and at their preschool graduation they were reciting every cabinet member for Obamas second administration. Name and Department. It was insane but it gave him such a head start on life. it’s also a lot of work on the side for parents but well worth it. He’s now in 7th grade taking 8th grade and freshman courses and getting straight as. He’s lucky my wife is smart since I’m barely functioning adult, and surprisingly he’s not a weirdo and athletic (I take credit for that I guess)
How is their balance. We did one of those razor scooter really early on where he could barely see over the handlebars. I think it helped with the bike riding since he already understood how to shit his body to keep up a two wheel something if that makes sense. We then bribed the shit out of him and said we would buy him a new bike when he could not only ride it but learn how to start and stop it himself. Lots of trips up and down the sidewalk for sure but having a goal seemed to help. We had one of those pedal less bikes but he never road that. I really think a two wheel scooter and skateboard helped him by the time we got to a bike.
It seems our daycare is never shutting down. Pulled our kid out two weeks ago though. They’ve shortened hours and adjusted things so we only pay every other week which is sweet. Side note our friends who both work from home still have their daughter in said daycare. They asked us if we wanted to all hang out this weekend
I didn’t realize any daycares were still running nationwide. The State of Alabama shut ours down two weeks ago and Alabama has been really slow to react to all of this.
They have kept them open in Ohio, but limited to 6 kids a room. Most have closed, but some have stayed open and it's strongly pushed that it should only be health care workers putting their kids in them.
It seems religion affiliated ones are closed here (TX) but private ones are staying open as long as possible.
Strider - 12 Sport Balance Bike, Ages 18 Months to 5 Years These balance bikes are good steps on the way to bike riding
We’re in Texas, our daycare is church-affiliated. We took our kids out last week, but it is still open. Yesterday our county judge issued a stay-at-home order (daycares are exempted) and the daycare is putting out emails asking parents to tell them their plans so that can staff accordingly (I.e. they expect dwindling attendance). It’s hard with daycares because they surely are areas where the virus could spread, but our daycare is close to the hospital district and many healthcare workers have their kids there. We can work from home and have our kids home too which is a royal pain, but it seemed like the responsible sacrifice to make. I get it for people who can’t do that and I think daycares are necessary for that reason.
Yeah it's a tough decision. On one hand at least the parent's I know putting theirs in are isolating themselves so if their daughter did get it they are only putting themselves at risk. But from the stories out there of people that have had it I'm not trying to get it regardless of risk.
My three year old has had that since his second birthday. He loves it. He glides around the driveway every day.
Anybody else think Jurassic Park is ok for a 5 and 7 year old? I’m good with it but my wife is hesitant. I was 8 when I saw it in theaters.
Same. Ours goes to only being able to care for essential employees next week so I had to get a letter from our legal dept that we counted (which surprised me but I’ll take it). I think the daycare was just happy to have customers staying. It’s a fantastic daycare so we are happy to have them open and teaching our kids. I can’t cite it because I’ve read far too much COVID-19 data but preschoolers that have gotten it have overwhelming gotten it from their parents rather than vice versa.
My 5 year old has a 102* fever out of the blue. He hasn’t left the house in over two weeks and has only interacted with a similarly socially distancing family down the street. Jesus fucking Christ. There goes my sleep and/or sanity for the foreseeable future.
How’d everyone do with home school yesterday? Wife was on edge with website crashing and trying to get the 6 year old to do her work while she was having all her zoom/webinar meetings. I was frustrated trying to get her to focus and do a module while I had my team and clients on the phone. At least we survived day 1. Hope they get easier. Cheers everyone.
I work from home full time, and my wife has been dealing with our 3 (10, 3.5, 2) for a couple weeks now and I think she's on the verge of a complete mental breakdown
Looked on Amazon for a Wii and these shit stains want $1000 for a new one. Had the kids home for a month now. Running out of ideas. Usually a couple of new activities each day. Launching hot wheels off of the treadmill. Throwing parachute army guys out of a second floor window, Lego wars etc. Been in the 40s everyday so we cut the grass yesterday. Today they are in pure destruction mode.
Took a moment today to remind myself to be patient with my wife and kids. Definitely lost my cool yesterday and was a dick to my three year old and my wife. Just because i'm stressed over all of this. It's a stressful time and everyone is going crazy. Just have to try to remain calm and understand that both me and my wife are trying our hardest to keep things going.
My kids have been pretty solid during their quarantine They both sleep in some then its youtube/tiktok/Xbox for a while then they do their chores then they do their online class stuff if they don't have any online work, they read for an hour then they go back to the Xbox or whatever and then I hang with them when I get home from work they've spent so much time alone together that at times when they're goofing off, I mistake it as them not getting along and I bark at them to chill
I hear you guys. We have a 6 and 3 year old. My wife and I are trying to tag team watching them while they other does work. It’s hard as sometimes our work overlaps. I have to keep telling my wife that pretty much every family is dealing with this like we are and it’s going to be ok. Think I will buy some extra bottles of wine and crown for the evenings moving forward.
Yeah I don’t know how the dudes with younger kids are getting by. Lil man is 13 and his schedule looks like: wake up between noon and 1p Shower, eat lunch Homework - eLearing about an hour Xbox Outside Dinner Xbox Bed he makes his own lunch too so pretty much it’s easy. My office is over the garage, wife’s is off kitchen and he hangs in the basement so we each have our own levels of the house and it’s been super easy. Fortunately.
Hell i don't work in any medical facilities, mostly just empty schools and my wife has me leaving my boots outside, going straight to the bedroom and taking a shower and putting my clothes i wore that day in the machine and starting the laundry, while she comes behind me wiping everything i touch with a clorox wipe I can't imagine what she would be like if I have to go to one of the hospitals we built She probably wouldn't let me come home
Yea, my garage is below the house and no inside connection, so I pretty much told her she is shit outta luck I ain't stripping on the back porch that sits about 10 foot higher than the back fence
I dont care if it's the apocalypse, a foot would be in someones ass if they woke up between noon and 1.
