My son talks to himself constantly. Just narrating what he’s doing with his toys or talking to his toys like they are his friends.

Also in the heart of the quarantine he was convinced he was best friends with his bike. He talked to “him” every day and hugged it in the morning when he got to come out ride it.

we only worry about him a little.

My kid is, like I said, almost 4. He can name more dinosaurs I can count and can ramble off facts about them, but can’t tell me what sound “m” makes.

    “What dinosaur is that”

    “Pachycephalosaurus, he’s the headbutt king”

“Cool, what sound does the letter M make”

    “Three.”

My step son is mad and me and said I’m not his favorite. He says I’m mean because I actually raised my voice at him because he opened the car door while driving. It made him cry. It’s weird because my wife always yells at him and he just ignores her but the one time I yell at him he holds it against me for days.

So I have a 7 day old baby. I'm pretty sure I've bought every swaddle they make. A few 4am purchases trying to find SOMETHING that'll work. He fucking HATES all of them. All he does is struggle and fight for days until he's free and has an arm out. He will not sleep in them.

Been better off lighting all that money on fire. On the brink of buying a $175 Dock-a-Tot pillow. :bang:

I don't think I've slept more than 4 hours in the last 8 days. I can't nap during the day. I have to go back to work tomorrow. :tebow:

Yeah, my son hated all swaddles too when awake but they were super helpful after he had fallen asleep because when he would stir he'd always rub his face with his hand and completely wake himself up and if he was swaddled he'd struggle for a sec and then settle down. So try waiting until he falls asleep to swaddle him.

I've resorted to just wrapping is body so he has a snug sensation and leaving his hands free. Yeah, he constantly punches himself in the face.

So try to swaddle once they are asleep?

Yeah, that's what worked for us. Wife would nurse him to sleep and then we'd swaddle him and that would help keep him asleep because he'd only seem to wake up when he would grab his face and by having him swaddled he was unable to and would stir and then fall back into a deep sleep. But yeah we had the same issue if we swaddled when awake because he would never settle down because he was so focused on getting some hands free.

LadyPokes’ bougie friends and sister kept telling us we HAD to get it. I took one look at it, thought that looks like a $20 dog bed, and decided to do some research because something didn’t add up.

Every mainstream pediatrician and childcare advocate recommends against it for sleeping; they claim it’s no different from crib bumpers and poses a legit risk of suffocation. It’s been linked to at least 12 infant deaths. The creator is a co-sleeping fanatic who has been forced to modify the product guidelines by lawsuits, consumer pushback, and regulators. The current guidelines are an unintelligible mishmash of legalese and contradictions like “dock a tot is safe for cosleeping provided the adult remains alert and able to supervise while asleep.”

It was pulled off the shelves in Canada because the government is concerned it poses a safety hazard.

Doesn’t seem worth the risk, IMO, but if you absolutely have to have one, the competition offers identical products for less money.

I did see a ton of celebrities have one, so assumed the price is just b/c of that bullshit

Where Eagles Dare if you are rich you should consider buying a Snoo. My cousins got one and it worked tremendously well.

I am not rich but seriously considered it after our first didn't sleep worth a shit his first year. I think they are around a grand, but you can sell them when he outgrows it for close to that.

Basically a "smart" bassinette that rocks your kid back to sleep when they wake up.

Our 3rd was born about 2.5 weeks ago. So far he is the easiest of the 3 at this age (knock on wood). My wife delivered with no drugs; we got to the hospital too late because the contractions sped up really quickly. He was born within 45 minutes of getting to the hospital.

It's super frustrating right now b/c the child will sleep peacefully in between feedings during the day. But then it comes 10PM and this meathead is tossing and turning until 6am.

Trying as much as possible to have lights on during the day, TV sound on, etc. Then everything I read is all "JuSt SwAdDlE yOuR ChIlD, tHeY lOvE iT!!!!"

No that doesn't fucking work. I threw 3 swaddles across the room last night. I do hear that his nocturnal nature will eventually change...but fuck lets go bruh

our good friends have had kids 2-3 months before each of ours. They got the snoo for the second baby, and we were gonna get it if it worked well. They said it did great at first but after about a month it didn’t do a damn thing.

This could also be a problem too. With newborns they especially can be overstimulated throughout the day if there is too much TV, talking etc. to a point where their brains can't settle down at night because of all the stimulation during the day.

My wife and I are already planning about going into the baby accessories business.

So much stupid shit that new families buy in hopes that it'll work.

#1 stupid purchase from registry. Baby Wipe warmer. Sounds cool, but it's really fucking stupid b/c the wipe goes cold about 6 seconds after it leaves the warmer.

I will 100% be putting this in my bathroom tho

All 3 of my kids were good sleepers from an early age, but the $130/month is not a lot of money to ensure you get more sleep and keep your sanity.

The problem with the expensive baby accessories is they only use them for weeks to a couple months and what works with your first child won’t necessarily work with your second. Having your first kid is a challenge because you’re trying to learn and get dialed in and as soon as you do the kid reaches the next phase and you need to adjust to the new phase. Having the second is humbling because you think you know a lot and then realize this kid is completely different and you only know a lot about the first kid.

Nothing worse than a parent who had an easy first kid and think they know everything.

Nothing better than when they have an impossible 2nd kid.

My first was a terror, my 2nd is a dream. We didn’t really change up much between the two.

I wouldn't classify Kendall as a terror but every night it was a process putting her to bed. Meatball was the polar opposite, once he was swaddled and in the crib he'd fall asleep in less than a minute. To this day I can tell Meatball to go to bed, he doesn't push back at all and is asleep within 5 minutes

I really really wonder how a second kid would act if we chose to have another one. Our daughter isn't a physical terror but she absolutely runs the show or throws a fit. Maybe two kids naturally helps shape each's behavior because they both can't get 100% of the attention all the time.
