After having the bob ross channel on Pluto on for a bunch of the last weekend as background noise, the 7 year old asked me this evening if I could put bob ross on his TV in his room for him to watch while going to sleep

Any of you have to deal with split custody? How do you go about dealing with issues occurring at the other parent's home, for example you learn your middle-school child is staying up until 2AM on Youtube on a school night, repeatedly, for example. Issue politely communicated to the other parent, but, no change.

I mean.. just... take the damn electronics away at night. Just be a parent. That's the rule in my house at least and it works fine. Maybe eventually it'll lead to fights but that's what I do now.

My oldest nephew does this. His mom lets him stay up all night playing Fortnite. He can’t do that at his dad’s house and my brother has talked to his mother about it but not much he can really do other than it’s not the same rules at his house.

At what age did you have the brain-busting realization that your kid probably has gained an internal monologue? I was watching my 4 y/o think about something and suddenly it hit me for no reason at all that he has his voice inside his head and for whatever reason it blew my mind.

Our daughter is a couple of weeks away from four and in the past month I've noticed her grasping more of the idea of pretending. She's constantly talking, even when she's not talking to us, and probably has an internal monologue. What struck me more was last month she had one of her fox stuffed animals in her car seat and holding it up to the window. I asked what she was doing and she said "I wanted to show Fox what was outside."

Yeah, we are six weeks away from #2 and in the same boat with the exception of the nursery. With #1 we were on that shit early. With #2 we haven't barely done anything due to work and keeping up with #1. I've given approval to just out-source the painting due to the "big and irritable" portion. I'm not gonna devote a day to that only for her to find something she's not happy about. The pros can do it and save me the headache.

We had a kitchen remodel last 10 weeks so the house was in disarray pretty much the entire time. Since then, the last two weeks, from the moment I get home to moment I go to bed I'm doing house/nursery shit from the backlog of the last 10 weeks. This baby better not arrive early cause I need a break before he gets here.

My 4 year old talks to himself constantly. If he is playing by himself he is talking to all the toys and conducting dialogue between the toys. He tends to give anything he is playing with a gender and it's own thought processes. He will also drop a toy and say "ow". He always gets a kick out of that. It's a lot of fun seeing his little mind develop.

Transitioning our 2.5 year old to a regular bed here in the next week or two. Hadn't thought about it too much, but was wondering how the transition went for some of you guys and if there's any good ideas/advice?

Not as bad as I thought it would be. It does mean that as soon as they can open the door they will and annoying the hell out of you even more. We have a clock that lights up when she's allowed out of her room but lately she's been completely ignoring it.

We got our 2 year old transitioned to it a couple months ago. It hasn't been as bad as I expected it to be. There have been a few nights where it was hard to get her to stay down...or she woke up super early, but few and far between. Honestly, the thing that has seemingly helped the most is the camera in the room. The last thing she says every night is "Daddy Camera? Mommy Camera?" and I'm pretty fucking sure it's just making sure we can see her/talk to her if need be...because if she wakes up in the middle of the night one of us will talk to her thru the monitor from our room and 9 times out of 10 that seems to soothe her enough where she just goes back to sleep.

So Levi eats absolutely everything we put in front of him. There is nothing he has not ate. Does that translate to when he gets older or does pickiness come into play later? Or does it make no difference and is random?

I guess this is for the dads with older kids to answer.

my son was the same, then he got into a picky stage from 12-16 months then last 3 months hes devouring everything again, for me it seemed to coincide with his growth spurts

In our case he ate everything with no real pickiness young, went through a couple phases where he didn’t like certain things for up to a year (pizza was one I remember, seriously wtf?) and now eats it all. I think they key is to keep expanding their palette with new things and styles of food from all over.

Same, but my 4yo eats only fruits and vegetables now. Didn’t really think “No more carrots and peppers until you eat your chicken nuggets” would be something I’d ever say as a parent.

Declan eats everything except eggs. They even joke about how much he eats at his daycare for an 11 month old because he’s not a picky eater. We’ve had a bad choking episode though. He will stuff his mouth and get over excited and try to swallow without really chewing it up. Scared the shit out of us. I think it was the consistency of the risotto as well.

We did pretty well transitioning to toddler bed. For probably 9 months, she thought she wasn’t allowed to get out of it unless we came into her room and said she could get up. Now she runs the hallways when she was supposed to be in bed and randomly shows up in our room in the middle of the night.

My son used to eat anything now he won’t eat any dinner except fried eggs, plain noodles, homemade pizza, chicken, and pork chops. He won’t eat a cooked veggie, and is picking off fruits one at a time. Today he decided he won’t eat blueberries anymore.

They get pickier, then the palate is supposed to open back up. When we had our first I read a Norwegian study and the gist was what they eat at somewhere around 12 or 14 months they will most likely eat at 9+. But they get picky in between.
