Same thing happened to me in 2006. Then I had two kids after that. Just wanted to share that to say it is very common and to just try to work through it with your wife.

Maybe some good news to bring the thread back up.

My son's grades for second semester are in and they're better than the first.

4 A's. All aces. Another spot on the Dean's List.

With the credits that transferred over from his senior year of HS and what he's done in this first year, if he's able to take the math course he wants over the summer he'll be a full fledged college junior by Fall. And I will have only paid tuition for one year. Thanks to Covid he couldn't live on campus this year so all that money got pushed back into the 529 for grad school maybe.

Thing that kills me is I keep telling him I'm so proud of him and how proud he should be of himself and he just looks at me like, 'Eh' and shrugs. The best thing I ever did was prep him to get into that county Magnet HS vocational program. After that he says, "College just seems easy." I hope the next two years are the same but the perils and temptations of living on campus are fast approaching.

Anyway, again I'm bragging and I don't care. Really proud and hopefully some good news lifts the thread.

That's an excellent question. Remember, he's only just completing his first true year of college so he's still feeling his way.

He's very interested in Communications, the broadcast type not the HR type, but he knows that's a tough field to break into and make a stellar living so he's really focused on having a killer GPA so he can transfer into the Rutgers Business School which has a direct and highly touted pipeline to Wall St.. If he can make that transition and do well he knows he'll work his tits off for some years but he'll be well compensated for it while building skills and relationships needed to do something on his own eventually. It's been driven into his head from a very early age that working your whole life to make somebody else rich ain't the way to be. So the short answer is still undecided but he's headed in the right direction. Communication will be in there as either a minor or if he can swing it a double major with something else. It really all depends on the Business School and what his advisors (who are impossible meet with even on Zoom) tell him is possible.

My take? He'll do something that allows him to stay close to the entertainment industry. He was in HS votech for Technical Theatre so the inner working of stage and screen production really interest him but he doesn't have the talent to be on the stage so learning the back of the house and the guys who finance it is where his head is at. He also applies the same passion to sports. In the end I think he'll get a degree in a field that allows him to pursue those interests.

Any suggestions from the board to that end would be appreciated. I like to have these ideas on hand when we talk about the future.

I got a journalism degree in the school of communications then added a business degree after that. two degrees (different then a duel major since it's two "schools") really helped me with interviews and now i'm in a sales job that I really enjoy. I think it's good to get that wide range of classes.

    Thank you for this.

Bolded is a mantra. I tell him constantly that in the end not swinging your legs out of bed every morning and whispering "shit" is the end goal no matter what route he takes.

Lots of directions that Communications interest can go. I have one buddy who got a journalism degree and based on the outfit he writes for and the stories he posts it seems the job has made him bitter. Our mutual friend got a broadcasting degree and is now the Assistant AD at one of the service academies and absolutely exudes a love for life.

    We discuss these things.

Just to be clear, I don't love my job, at all. But the pay is good enough to allow me and my family to have a nice life. That alone makes it fulfilling for me. I was kind of scared off from journalism in college because of warnings of how bad the pay was. That was 10 years ago when J School was still pushing the traditional newspaper route. At some point if you are weighing being an actual writer/journalist, the lack of pay (at least early on) should be a major factor.

There's still as much of a chance he'll change careers 5-10 years out of college anyways even if he is successful. I went to graduate school for cell/molecular bio, got burnt out and did eventually work in a toxicology lab. I'm doing software development now and enjoying it.

Over the last 72 hours my 8 month old decided he will never be still or quiet again for the rest of my days so that has been something to see. It was like a switch. Should be walking in a week or so at this rate. Time to batten down the hatches I guess.

That was when it happened with Levi. I would catching walking from point A to point B on occasion. But as soon as he realized he was walking, he would get a look of horror/surprise on his face and drop on his butt. Then 10 months hit and now he is walking everywhere. And also falling everywhere.

    Boy has migrating bruise syndrome.

Don’t worry, my boy is 14 months old and can walk but refuses too. I think it’s partly because we have hardwoods everywhere so when he falls it always hurts. It’s funny because if he’s excited about something and already standing he’ll walk to whatever he’s excited about but 90% of the time he’s still crawling everywhere.

My older brother’s kids all did not walk until 14-15 months. They are all 3 doing just fine as teenagers at this point. My understanding is that babies develop at their own pace and trying to heavily influence that is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Seems that we have gotten to the state of separation anxiety with my child. But it's not with us. We drop him off at daycare, dude doesn't give a fuck. But, if his teacher leaves in the afternoon before we pick him up he has a melt down.

So apparently the pecking order is Ms Tamara, a massive gap, mom/dad

We took the training wheels off my 5 year old's bike on Saturday and by Sunday he was riding on his own and doing great. We went on a family bike ride last night and he was riding off curbs and when we'd go down hills he'd put his feet up on the frame and just cruise like wtf slow down Dave Mirra just focus on not falling please.

If he's like mine, he will fall eventually
and fall again, then get over confident and fall again

We had the handlebar end square in the middle of the chest fall recently
I remember that one as a kid, it hurts bad

At least he's wearing a helmet, that's something I never did

The twins were born Friday. Just a few days premature but doing great. Went home after only 2 days. It's not as bad as I expected but know itll get worse once we try to get them on same schedule. I would absolutely die if I had twins the first go round though. The 3 hour feeding cycle is brutal, especially with two. Feeding and pumping take about an hour and half and sometimes two, leaving us only an hour in between. The 3am and 6am feedings have been especially hard. Looking forward to when they're more spread out.

my son is 4 and has been riding proficiently with a balance bike for almost a couple of years now. we got him a bike with petals (no training wheels) and he doesn't quite have it. He's scared to commit. We don't want to put training wheels on because I know my kid will never let me take them off. so now kinda back to the balance bike except for when i'm really in the mood to "spot' him on the pedal bike for an entire walk.

Wife leaves the house at 2:30 to eventually go to her cousins graduation party. I keep our 3 kids 3 and under because I wasn’t going to spend the money on a babysitter for an event I didn’t want to go to. Walks in the door at 11:15 and the first sentence out of her mouth: I’m tired and need to sleep in tomorrow.
