So my wife and I decided to send Levi to my parents from Sun-Fri at the end of the month. Wife is going to hop on a plane and fly down to San Antonio where my parents will pick him up at the airport. They will be driving him back up on Friday for a family reunion at Lake Texoma.

Both excited and not. Really feeling run down lately and can use a break. Zero spare time and that is hard for an introvert that needs alone time to recharge. But, I have only been away from him for 1 night twice and 2 nights once.

He will be 26 months. What ages were your kids the first time you were away from them for an extended time? We would have done this sooner but Covid sucks. Between my family all living a minimum of 5 hours away, my wife’s family being crazy, and wanting him to be vaccinated this is the first opportunity we have had.

We went to Jamaica for a week when my son was around that age. There was a lot of anxiety around the trip ahead of time but my son and the grandparents had a fantastic time together and my wife and I had a great time away just the two of us. You’ll all be fine and better for it.

My kids are 7.5 and 5.5. I’ve gotten time away myself, but we still haven’t had a vacation from them together and I’m not sure that we ever will.

    Take advantage imo.

Hell I plan my year around long weekends where I can leave my kids with my mother. She's 3 hours away so it requires a lot of extra planning and logistics. But it's a win win for everyone. My kids have a special bond with their grandmother and my wife and I get some time with just us. a.tramp 2 is the perfect age to start it off.

    Your kid isn't 26 months, he's 2 now.

We haven't done multi-day drop offs but we would take my kid (before we had our second) to my in-laws for the night and it was fine. Being able to turn off the parent brain for an evening is great.

I think that's a good age to do it. Its harder when they get more into their 2s and start figuring out that they can say no to things. Like our 2 going on 3 year old doesn't eat much so we know we need to manage him more on day to day basis. That's a lot harder to go away for extended time. Either do it now or you may not be comfortable with it until he's in kindergarten.

That said the grandparents love the time they spend with him, even though we are anxious as hell.

My personal experience may cloud this, but you might be surprised how awesome your parents are with the kiddo. Take the time to recharge and enjoy and trust that your parents have been looking forward to it for a long time and will do it right.

I don’t travel for work but had to take a weeklong trip to San Fran in 2019. I was in heaven for about 72 hours. By the time the week was over, I almost cried for joy at the airport when I met my wife/kids.

Fucking family making me all vulnerable and shit.

Kid is going through some pretty severe eating regression. All he wants are snack food. All the things he used to like he won’t eat.

You aren’t going to reason with the kid or win with logic. Just make sure the kid gets fed. Maybe you can trick him to eat a few bites of not-junk food.

Ugh. 5 year old has had Covid twice in a span of 5 weeks and got over it right before Kindergarten started. Made it 5 days of school before he got another fever and is home again. This is always such a defeating feeling.

My kids get sick ALL THE TIME. Like literally virus after virus after virus. We are the good parents that really try to make sure we aren’t spreading germs, keeping them out of school, etc.

Not anymore, fuckfaces. My kids don’t have a fever? School. No Covid? School. Coughing nonstop? School. Snot everywhere? School.

Dad shame me all you want, but I’m done with the mr nice guy shit. Yes, I’m mad and, yes, my kids have been in school for a week and are already sick. We asked their teachers and they said “No fever and no Covid? Send em in. Everyone else does.”

For experienced dads, any tips that will allow me to watch even a fraction of the CFB I was able to watch pre-bubs? Am I destined to only being able to watch the later games for the next couple years?

when theyre that young I would just set up a play mat or something like that on the living room floor or plop them on the couch next to me. mine are 4 and 7 now so they get more into the 'why is that 3 points instead of 1' and 'I hope the team with the cat on their helmet wins!' so it does get a little easier

That young shouldn't be hard. I was able to watch ample football these late two seasons. My son is now 25.5 months this Labor Day and it's going to be a lot harder.

Your lil person should be able to sleep and be held while you watch TV. Might have to hit pause a few extra times.

I was still able to watch a lot of weekend football when my daughter was under a year old, they don't require too much interaction. After that is when I really had to give her a shitton of attention, my wife and I are both introverted and so far our daughter is the exact opposite.

My son just turned 2. I have no one close. Originally my dad and mom were going to come down and watch him this spring, but my dad passed away from covid & my mom had to have back surgery. We were planning a foreign trip.

Going to scale it back a bit and just do a stay-cation. Wife's work is giving her 2k for a weekend, so we'll be a few miles away in Atlanta and my Mom & her best friend/my god mother will spend the weekend with him. Seems like a good 1st time away as we'll be close if any disasters arise.

The only thing I worry about is diaper changes. He's a bit of a dick and will not sit still when he shits himself. It's like trying to hold down a god damn alligator trying to death roll in his own feces. Very frustrating and annoying.

Just started introducing the potty to my son. At 25.5 months, he's moved to the 2 year old class and they do some potty training there. Nothing serious, but he's seen mom and dad and probably his classmates use the toilet.

He loves climbing up on his seat, sitting on the toilet (doing nothing), then flushing the toilet approx 9 times, then getting a "wipe" and throwing as much toilet paper as possible into the toilet.

I guess it's a first start. He hasn't done anything while sitting up there yet, but I guess it's good he seems eager. I guess I'm still going to have to wipe his ass for a while, but at least it will be somewhat less

my 5 year old is obsessed with it but he's never actually played the game other than Minecraft Dungeons at an arcade. I am soooo curious to know how so many little kids get interested in it without playing it and without it being a hit TV show or anything else. But all he wears is Minecraft stuff and last night for the first time told me he wants a Minecraft room.

For those of y'all with older kids -- girls especially -- when did you have the sex talk with them? This morning I dropped my 11-year-old off for her first day of middle school still believing in Santa Claus and not knowing about the birds and the bees.

yeah its definitely how it started but Its just so funny to me how they then stay interested without playing the game itself. Now almost everyday he asks me to print a Minecraft character and then he traces it and colors it in.

yup. I'm at the point where I'm lucky if I can get 5 straight minutes of sitting on the couch when the kid is awake and its not settle down for bed time. Football season is going to be ROUGH. We are going to take him to a Canes game in 2 weeks as a test run. It's a shit team so even if it's a disaster and we have to leave early, it's not the end of the world.

you're probably good until they get really mad when they are old enough to just want paw patrol on TV and not understand that sports are live and you are watching something currently happening and not just streaming an episode of a football show. I think they also don't understand the difference between live TV and everything on-demand always at that 2ish range.

Luckily my oldest LOVES football but we pretty much still limit the TV to football to just our teams playing and outside of that, the kids can choose what to watch if its TV time.

Moral of the story, get a dedicated football iPad.

7-month old still isn't sleeping through the night. He's breast feed and apparently we've conditioned him to need to nurse to fall back to sleep. Mrs. got up 6 times last night. He's also sprouting teeth so I don't know how that plays into it. Mrs. doesn't have the heart to let him "cry it out." My thoughts are it's going to suck but we just need to close the door and let him cry himself to sleep no matter how long he crys.

TLDR: please share your sleep training / "cry it out" stories and advice.

In the same spot with our 5 month old. Bottom teeth are out as of a few weeks ago and now the top are on their way based on his fussiness and sleep regression. We had a good run of 8 hour nights for about a month but now it's in shambles. My wife also won't entertain the cry it out method either.
