i am still waiting on grandparents to offer to fund one of these big disney trips I see so many of my friends go on. if I'm bankrolling the whole thing I'd rather go somewhere cool.
We went twice with lil man but he was over it with a quickness. Didn’t have to pay for either time but we are definitely not a Disney family. We’ve done some pretty unique and awesome things though so it’s also why I may be in my own bubble
Going to Disney at the end of the month with our three boys. Been once with the oldest. I agree with the sentiment of having no desire to ever go, but the way the kids react is well worth it. My oldest is going to absolutely lose his mind when we go to Galaxy’s Edge with how obsessed he is with Star Wars right now.
I think every American kid deserves to go at least once. i would like to take my 6 y/o daughter before she outgrows her princess phase.
We did the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique, was expensive but it was so great, my daughter enjoyed it so much my wife cried watching her.
If you’re 3 year old naps during the week she still goes to sleep at the normal bedtime? That’s amazing.
With all the talk of ADHD in here, I found an interesting article in The Lancet around removing processed foods and the impact on ADHD
I don’t know if she actually sleeps at daycare or just lays down, but yes. She does the typical asking for extra hugs or water or whatever but generally is asleep by 8.
Good news, it doesn't get better any time soon! This was my 11 and 9 yr old in NYC 2 weeks ago. Moreso the 11 yr old, but she's in that annoyed at everything phase now that lasts from the start of middle school until ??????
It truly is an experience every kid should have. It's expensive af and tiring but worth it. We took our daughters when they were 5 and 3. Did all the things - Bibbidi Bobbidi, Princess lunch at Akershus, Beast castle, etc. They had the times of their lives. Only drawback of that trip is that now we have the weekly "when do we go back to Disney World again?" questions to field.
Will be taking 3 and 2 year old soon. Would kind of like them to be older with the money that will be spent. Should I wait? Does it matter?
My wife got an email from my son's 2nd grade teacher yesterday. Apparrently they were discussing sayings that hold true trough the years(no clue why, didn't get context). The example given by her was that people get wiser with age. My kid raises his hand, gets called on and says "I don't think that's always true". Teacher asks why he says that and he responds "well my dad definitely hasn't gotten wiser as he's gotten older". We know her decently well outside of school. She said in her email she was trying so hard not to bust out laughing at his comment and said Wicked Jr, i know your dad and you know thats not true as the rest of the class is laughing. Kid is a giant smart ass and its going toget worse as he gets older.
Seems a little young I'm sure they would have fun and all, but i wonder if they would even remember it when they are in high school
I went to Disney world when I was in 4th grade. Who Framed Rodger Rabbit was the big thing that had just come out, stuff all over the place in the parks. It's still one of my all time favorite movies because of that trip.
Still have never taken the kids to Disney. They just never really brought it up. I even tried to get both of them to ask for it for their 10th birthday (we decided to make the 10th a big ticket experience) and neither of them were interested. Oldest wound up asking to go to Discovery Cove (which was awesome) and the one who turns 10 next month seemingly just wants to play laser tag with his friends.
Just got home from Minecraft with kids and a couple other families. I enjoyed it and I’m expecting a massive box office number. Our theater was packed but what was really funny was all their popcorn buckets, tins and all branded drink cups were sold out as of yesterday. My cup was a venom cup that they had to break out of a box in the back. Opening night movies can be fun. First time my kids were in a theater with people cheering throughout the film.
We went to see a different movie last night and was surprised by how many people were at the theater for the late show Small town theater doesn't usually have big crowds
Fun show I found for both of us. Lots of fart and poop jokes which is right up the kids humor. Can also make you feel inadequate when they realize you’ve never built anything cool. Unless you’re Funshot Residue I imagine he’s one of these guys
Cool premise for a show. Kiddo asked for a dozer ride this week, so we pushed some dirt around Wednesday. I'm a pretty new operator, so doing anything detailed with a 2.5 year old on your lap is pretty difficult. I had to fine grade and sow grass seed before he got home yesterday. Immediately wants to know where his pile of dirt went. Dude is sharp and doesn't miss much.
I’m always amazed at his much my 3 year old remembers about things we’ve done. Asking where something is we played with earlier, recognizing locations.
We are in Colorado for spring break…two days in a cabin at Rocky Mtn Natl Park and two days in Boulder. I figured 4 days was enough for a pseudo outdoor vacation given my kids are 10 and 8. All they’ve done is complain that there is nothing to do. In Colorado. Surrounded by every outdoor activity under the sun. I get that 10 and 8 is young for any kind of rational thought process, but I was hoping being in real mountains for the first time would spark some curiosity and interest. I’m not mad. You’re mad.
It’s happened already. Dude is stupid strong. Wanting to get him into something to channel it and teach some disciple. I did taekwondo as a kid and loved it.
Did jiujitsu with my son around that age, he loved it. I like the emphasis on respect and character building that comes along with things like that and taekwondo.
That’s what I’m looking for. Hi. To have interactions with kids his age and learn the respect of listening to a teacher.
The city has been doing some updates to a “park” near my house and they finished the playground. My excitement for this playground probably only makes sense to other parents. It’s about a 300 foot walk from my front door.
Hard to compete with the three story rocket with a hot and slick as fuck metal slide and would sway with the wind Wichita had in one of its playgrounds
I had TWO playgrounds within walking distance two houses ago. One of them was an elementary school that was completely shaded and turfed. Miss it bad.
By far my biggest gripe is how goddamn heavy the spinning marry-go-rounds are compared to two decades ago. I assume the intention is it limits the speed and thus makes it safer, but kids don't give a single shit how much effort it takes when they ask you to spin it.
The Anxious Generation book by Haidt spends a fair amount of time about the antifragility of kids and how even playground changes have made a difference in children today because of the lack of safe risk etc.
I already spent about 15 minutes picking mulch out of a knit fabric headband my daughter was wearing last night.
There’s this insane new park here that took like two years to build with a five story space shuttle kids can climb up inside and slide down. The problem is it was built and designed by some European firm and the slide is metal so it can be used like half the year because they didn’t realize Texas is basically the sun’s surface.
Who are my fellow work from home dads staying home today with the kids and attempting to work while the wife goes to the office? Mine owns her own business, and if she's "too tired" on a random Tuesday has no issue laying in bed for 8 hours, but magically, if the kids have a day off of school, she has to be at the office the whole day to, "help the team".
