Yeah he did a great job. I usually go to a Great Clips / Super Cuts type place but I think I'll try the place we took the kid out next time. Came recommended by a TMBer of course.

My wife and two kids all picked up hand foot and mouth disease at a birthday party a few weeks back. Kept them all in my room and I slept in my daughters room so I didn’t catch that shit.

They get better and I pick up a nasty little head cold and fever so we keep the quarantine going. So my head is all stuffed up at 3am, I’m blowing my nose until I think brain matter might come out. I get up to go use the bathroom. I see flashing lights all around me. “Oh no! I’ve blown my nose so hard I’ve detached a retina!” I thought.

Turns out my daughters Disney princess blanket flashes and lights all up when you accidentally touch a crown. Scared the shit out of me.

    Merry Christmas to all!

    Had a shitty situation today.

My sister called last night around 1 am asking if she could bring her best friend and her best friend's kids (5 year old twins and 16 month old girl) over to our house for Xmas. No questions asked, if friends or family need a place for Xmas they are always invited. Turns out her husband who is a firefighter left the family just a few days ago. He had a bad call a while back and was performing CPR on a baby and the baby didn't make it. He has suffered from PTSD ever since and then abruptly bailed on the family right before Xmas a few days ago. We immediately said bring them and then last night I started having anxiety because we didn't have any presents for the three kids. On Xmas day we have round 1 in the am with presents from me and my wife and Santa. Then family comes over midday and we do round 2 of presents. Thats what I was picturing in my mind...Round 2 of presents and those 3 kids will be the only ones without gifts (nor a dad) on Xmas. Everything was closed so we couldn't go buy any presents. We decided to turn it into a teaching moment for my kids and asked them to donate presents to the 3 kids coming over. I have 3 girls so getting gifts for girls turned into almost no problem at all. The 5 year old boy on the other hand was very difficult. My son is only 1 so we didn't have much of anything. Luckily I got ambitious and bought my son a cool nerf gun for Xmas, something he would have trouble loading and firing (lets be honest, it was more a gift for dad). I packaged that but it was just one present whereas the other two girls had multiple gifts, but there was nothing we could do, we had nothing else to gift the 5 year old boy. Sure enough when everyone came over and we started opening presents the boy immediately noticed that he only had one present where as everyone else had a pile and even his sisters had multiple presents. He started asking his mom why he only had one and she was trying to talk to him but he started crying. I about died.

Xmas is the one day where as a kid you're not supposed to get screwed. I had a backup plan where if things fell through I was going to have him turn on the front yard lights (I have an elaborate setup initiated by Alexa and it includes an inflatable santa helicopter). That distracted him for a brief moment but he soon ran back in crying. I felt shitty all around. My wife and family were telling me not to feel bad because of what I tried to do, but none of that means anything to the kid who doesn't understand why dad is gone and he only got 1 present when all the other kids got a bunch. Just a crappy situation all around.

That’s horrible. Puts things in perspective.

My kid ran into a wall and hurt his wrist around 2....was so excited that we finished building his new Lego Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter that he was running to get mommy to see. Tripped as he was entering our room and caught the wall. Might have broken it, going to get an X Ray tomorrow.

Got to Christmas an hour late. He seemed fine, played and had fun.

Then he threw up all over his grandma right as we were getting ready to leave. My mother in law took it pretty well. #thisisChristmas2017

Smart money is on Benign familial macrocephaly or benign external hydrocephalus.
Does your family have a history of big heads?
Vast majority of these cases are benign and there is nothing to do except monitor.
See the specialist, likely get a scan of her head and likely get good news.
Wait until there is something to worry about. Good luck.

Yeah my head is kind of big. She had a big head since her first pediatrician appointment, I believe in the 96 percentile. She seems normal, but I'm hoping we didn't give her some head trauma in some way that led to a hemorrhage or something.

This isn't a new revelation but doing Christmas with your in-laws makes me understand how different peoples Christmas traditions are.

My wife's father is passed away and my MIL doesn't have a ton of money but they always had huge Christmas. My MIL bought probably ~20 gifts across my wife, me and my son. Nothing crazy expensive but more money than she should spend on her budget. But again, that is how they have always done Christmas.

I came from a more conservative spending family where we spend $50-100 and maybe get 2-3 gifts each. I saw this because we did Christmas at my MIL and my son got 10+ gifts from her and we fly to my parents tonight to do a belated Christmas with my parents tomorrow where they'll probably have a couple gifts for him.

Size of the head isn’t as important as much as trend. Those wavy lines on the growth charts represent %iles. When your child crosses two growth curves your pediatrician should investigate the cause. Sometimes the child is finding a new baseline but other times something more sinister is going on and warrants a deeper dive. Again the absolute percentage isn’t nearly as important as the trend.

We just restrict / monitor use. Meaning they only use the computer when it’s in the view of an adult. My oldest is 9.5 so I assume we are in the early stages and will have to figure out something else soon.

There are restrictions you can set at the router level, softwares you can use etc , but to be realistic, once they are a certain age and smart enough, there isn’t much you can do.

I hear you on that. I grew up with not a lot of money and didn't get a ton for Christmas. My wife told my in-laws this when we started dating for the last 12 years they spend way too much on me. I actually had a conversation with my FIL about it after last Christmas but that did no good.

Options? There is just Santa Fe. I had never been to anyplace in New Mexico before, we always skied Colorado growing up.

It was a great ski school for them. Super organized and well run. They never made it out of the kid area, but we only skied two days. There were only 10 runs open bc of snow, so the skiing for the adults wasn’t great. However, for the kids, it was perfect.

So wife went back to work today and we had our nanny start. Now I'm sitting at the office wishing I could see what is going on at the house. Is it crazy for me to install "nanny" cameras or just general security cameras?

I'm sure some the TMB crowd would love her but she's nothing special. Ended up going the Arlo route and am just starting off with one. My downstairs is set up so that one camera should be able to cover 85%+ of it, that's where the nanny and the baby will be almost anytime she's not napping. Another reason I wanted to get it is the nanny has a 16 month of her own that she is bringing with her. I want to make sure that she is handling the two kids well.
