Getting a big Norman Bates vibe with his mom.
I'm all fucking in on this movie
Oh now we’re back to the completely false narrative that the joker doesn’t have an origin. Sweet
Isn't the Joker's origin story in TKJ basically considered canon?
So he kinda does have one already at that point
No. There are actually three Jokers according to the comics right now.
They've been doing some wild shit with his origin the past couple years.
It's an Elseworlds tale, no different than Joker's own warped recollections in Shitty AMC Show Joke.
He prefers his origin story to be multiple choice. This is one of those choices.
(this is how I'm reconciling it in my head)
Yeah but TKJ is an origin storyline that has been done already and is absolutely amazing. If you ask anyone who’s kept up with these stories for any significant amount of time “does the joker have an origin?” They’re gonna point to TKJ
If you think TKJ was written to be the Joker's actual origin story you missed the whole point of The Killling Joke.
edit: Can that Shitty AMC Show filter die already. It's been YEARS
It may have been written as an unreliable narrator but it lays out an origin that works.
Young Bruce Wayne
Getting good TAXI DRIVER vibes from it
so instead of getting cancer Walter White is a mentally ill guy that gets picked on a lot?
Breaking Bad 2: Gotham Boogaloo
I'm still definitely going to watch it
Immediately what came to mind.
Question: does it take place in present day or like in the ‘70s?
I think if it was a film about a man slipping into madness it would look great.
But as a Joker origin story I hate it. Only because I've never wanted a Joker origin story. I'll probably still watch it because it does look like Phoenix is going to do a stellar job.
80's I believe.
Still makes me laugh.
Yes, AN origin story. One of an endless stream.
One of the great things about the Joker that he came from nowhere. He has both NO origin story and EVERY origin story. TKJ is one such tale. This is another. If this is good it'll be another good one.
The point is that he has origin stories and an excellent one with TKJ. It’s been done. People thinking it can’t work are wrong
Oh are you saying DC/WB should just adapt TheKilling Joke into a feature? I'd be down with that.
Personally I think DCWB should just make a bunch of adaptations of their graphic novels. DC's graphic novels are almost ALL better than Marvel's. Just adapt them as a bunch of standalone movies. Forget interconnecting the universe with one longrunning plot, ala MCU.
Give all the JL characters their own movies, do a JL movie, go ham. But don't worry about one big arc.
I’m saying that if you left the first half of TKJ alone and left out Batman and built upon it you’ve got engaging story that makes a lot of sense. It’s already been said this story draws inspiration from TKJ, Nolan drew inspiration from Millers work.
I’m just not worried about it being an origin story
I guess I quoted this before you were finished. Totally agree
Can’t see Joaquin doing anything in this universe beyond this film. He turned down Doctor Strange as I recall because he didn’t want multi film commitment.
I’m absolutely fine with an excellent one off joker movie.
Okay so we can have 5 different joker origin movies with Phoenix. Then you won't know which one is reliable.
Call me spoiled or ruined by Ledger but I just can't ever invest in or buy any other actor playing Joker in my lifetime again without thinking its sub-par.
Like anyone else other than RDJ or Evans being Tony Stark or Cap.
Ledger did a great job but I think there is plenty of room for other takes on the character.
And I still say Hamill is the quintessential Joker.
GOAT Joker's bday today.
the disrespect of mark hamill and jack nicholson itt will be noted
Hamill is only a voice. I think he's the best voice, but Ledger was the whole package, so he gets the nod.
Jack is, at worst, 1b. They're all such different portrayals.
As long as no one labels Leto near the top, there shouldn't be any hard feelings.
My thoughts exactly.
that fucking hand tattoo smile still enrages me
Surprised to see no one talking about Shazam.
It was really good. A lot different than what I expected as someone with no knowledge of the source material. Sign me up for a sequel.
I'll probably go to the 10:30 showing tonight
the Shazam movie is set in Philly, but the comic book wasn't, right?
It was Fawcett City in the comic. DC always used fake cities that mirrored real cities.
Really enjoyed Shazam... thought it was 10-15 min too long though.
Was good. I give it a solid 7.5-8. I think I liked Aquaman better but Aquaman was a much bigger movie. There were some campy/cheesy parts that they put in the movie making fun of superhero movies that really worked for what it was which was incredibly refreshing for a DC superhero movie. Definitely needs a sequel.
My youngest really wants to see Shazam so glad to hear its good.
feeling less and less like a reboot.
Will Smith and Viola Davis were far from the worst parts about the film. Along with Margot Robbie, these 3 can stay,
I wouldn’t mind Cara Delevingne staying because I like looking at her
Shazam! was really good. Really really good.
Not perfect; it was a tad underbaked but it was really good.
That laugh in the comedy club at 1:05 it's amazing.
Smith was forgettable. Not bad but also didn't stand out. Just meh IMO.
That is basically his whole career. Now everyone rip me for that opinion.
