Having seen it 37% is super low to me. I really thought it would be around 65ish. I really didn’t think it was bad
Haven't seen it, and never expected a masterpiece, but it wouldn't surprise me if some critics went in with their minds made up before they see it. Due to the other DC films. Which gets you this: "Critics Consensus: Justice League leaps over a number of DC movies, but its single bound isn't enough to shed the murky aesthetic, thin characters, and chaotic action that continue to dog the franchise."
Saw Justice League. Thoughts: Spoiler 1. The 119-minute length felt very short. It felt like the studio told Synder (and I guess Whedon for that matter in post) that, “Hey there was so much backlash about the BvS length that JL cannot be that long, so you’ll have to trim.” 2. Steppenwolf sucked. I think it was the CGI. Ciarán Hinds is a phenomal actor and his voice was great, but it didn’t work. 3. Wonder Woman was cool and Gal Gadot is hot as hell. End of story. 4. Batman was cool too. 5. Aquaman was ok. Jason Momoa is not a good actor. 6. The Flash was the light humor of the film, and really worked at certain segments. I enjoyed his character. 7. Cyborg mediocre. It was difficult for me to invest in his character. 8. They didn’t need that entire sequence of BvS introducing the other JL characters. Completely meaningless. The introductions they received in JL was perfectly fine, and in retrospect, the scene at the end of BvS where Bruce and Diana talk about forming a team could/should have been the only mention of JL. 9. Superman was decent. The CGI mustache didn’t bother me too much. 10. The humor was more adult-like and not that Marvel humor made for teenagers, and definitely not overkill like GOTG. Overall it’s decent, but has its flaws. 6.5/10.
just got back It's not 37% bad. It's just okay. The flaws are humongous though. That's the thing; there are no "little problems" here. It's all glaring "holy crap" sort of things. Cavill's mustache being the perfect example: He looked like a video game character. And I'm not exaggerating. He looked like a PS4 cutscene. Cyborg was really rough in spots too. The tone was all over the place and it was very obvious which lines Joss Whedon contributed. I actually wish I could see the movie he would have made had he been involved from the beginning. Flash was the best part of the movie and his every line felt like a Whedon contribution. Aquaman was terrible though; way too much of a Zack Snyder tryhard. The pacing was off too. It's a two hour film where hour one feels like the first of a three-hour movie. Really patient, deliberate, not slow or boring, just taking its time. Then it races to its conclusion in the final hour. It's like there's no middle. That's a lot of criticism but I will say there were some action setpieces where everything clicked and I enjoyed it. Those moments had a nice rhythm of action and one-liners and some good Snyder slo-mo and framing. Those were nice moments, but the story in between was severely lacking. 7/10 maybe
I can't see how you liked anything about the Flash. Nothing about his quips were remotely funny and the way they portrayed him running was the ugliest thing I've ever seen in a movie.
I just realized what felt so odd about the whole thing: There's no subplot. The whole movie is just the one surface-level story.
Ezra Miller decided that "his" interpretation of the Flash is that he's suppose to run funny or something.
i have no desire for the movie to be bad (i actually really wanted it to be great), but this was hilarious. sorry TheGrifter
Do away with the corny one-liners/words, and the shit eating grins anytime something good was happening/about to happen, and you'd have a somewhat decent film.
The pacing was by far the biggest issue for me. You described it perfectly. Ultimately i think you have to go in with no expectations. Don’t read the reviews. If you go in thinking it will be bad, you will probably leave thinking it’s bad. There are certainly issues, but there are some good things mixed in. I really liked a couple fight scenes in the movie
I’m cool with it, but I wonder if he’ll be the same Bruce Wayne, or if he’ll be dick Grayson taking over the mantle
It’s rumored for the standalone movie which IIRC isn’t a part of this DCEU storyline so he could be a new me
No I think it’s part of the dceu they just won’t be having cameos and call backs to the other movies. Im sure the story just won’t be one that will require the help of Wonder Woman
I saw it again last night. It felt like the same formula they do for the animated movies. Quick intros for the characters. Build the plot. Action. Good guys have setback. Join together. Good guys win. We see them doing well and building to future stories. End credit scene sets up something bigger. I enjoyed it. I’m not expecting Oscar worthy shit here. It’s a popcorn action movie.
I think I’m just done with DC movies. I’ve basically been going out of some inner nerd hope, and it’s just not happening. WW was good, but most of the other movies are barely enjoyable. The fact that DC is botching this so badly is actually kind of astonishing.
Yeah. I was way off. Definitely seemed like it would get better reviews based upon the social media reaction. Oh well. Like I said, the reviewers I normalled agree with liked it, and my brother saw it last night and liked it a lot. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it as well.
There's no incentive for them to change their formula when these movies still make a billion dollars at the box office
Thought BvS was over hated, I'll probably enjoy this when it comes out on HBO in a year like I did BvS. Suicide Squad is the only movie that was billed as a total piece of shit and then had no redeeming qualities.
Kind of amazing how they can take that many decent/likeable actors and characters and make a shit movie. I don't have any specific plot gripes, just thought it didn't have continuity and the dialogue was pathetic at times. Could have been my theater but the CGI looked off.
Momoa was bad The slow mo shots of the Flash running looked like he was slap fighting the air Gadot was so hot Cyborg, was he even in the movie? Affleck was Affleck It's about as good as B vs S
At this point, DC needs to either commit to a full Nolan style gritty, do a complete reboot so "humor" isn't forced and more jarring than a laugh track sitcom or stop making movies.
The movies are obviously profitable, but what will it take for the studio to admit it all sucks and start over another time? Amazing that they could fuck up a franchise with Batman and Superman so badly.
Wasn't as good as BvS. Aquabro was stupid and everyone else was underdeveloped and just kind of there. Meh
That's the right attitude, actually. You'll probably have an okay time...except you won't stop staring at Cavill's upper lip
how does a movie with Wonder Woman and Batman do worse than a movie with only Wonder Woman? Zack Snyder is the answer.
this movie was by no means good, but I ended up kinda against the grain on it I guess. It's not unwatchable and I thought BvS was for a good bit of it. Still well behind Wonder Woman, of course, but it's probably the 2nd most enjoyed DC movie so far for me. They still need to reset/regroup. They can proceed as if all this has happened, but get new creative people in charge and continue to change the tone and actors as needed.
It wasn’t as bad as Suicide Squad so at least there’s that. The CGI on Cavill’s face was god awful. Affleck totally mailed that performance in as Batman. I’m sure the 3.5 hour version that inevitably comes out on DVD in 6 months will be better.
He was filming Mission Impossible when Joss Whedon was doing JL reshoots. He has a mustache/beard for his Mission Impossible role and it was written into his contract that he couldn't shave it during filming. However, the CGI still shouldn't be that bad as I thought Steppenwolf's CGI was poor too. It feels like the same VFX company WB hired to do the Hobbit trilogy. I'm sure Disney refuses to let Industrial Light & Magic to do DC CGI, but WB can definitely find better than what they've been getting.
