Felt like the only time the cgi moustache really stood out was during the YouTube scene at the beginning
Not for me Joss reshot basically every non action scene and so every scene with Cavill except for the action scenes featured a cgi mustache remover. Watch it again and you'll see it in almost every scene
Disclaimer: I'm a big Batman fan. I thought the movie was really good, much better than BvS and also a lot better than the 30% it's receiving right now. The villain was fairly weak, but it didn't bother me that much. The credit scenes were we'll done. As much as I like Batman, I dislike Superman more, but DC finally got the character right. It waa nice to see Supes not being dark and quiet. I know people dislike DC for all the shit they have put out over the years, but I thought this film was really good and maybe a sign of DC turning the corner.
I mostly agree with all of this But I wouldn't call it corner turning. A sub100mm opening means heads will roll and big changes are coming. Good movie or not the franchise is now toxic
They need to burn it all down and start over. Old Batman was such a dumb fucking decision among dozens of dumb fucking decisions. Would be a damn shame to lose Gal so figure something out there
Aquaman is happening either way, but after that just do Flashpoint to blow everything up, keep Gal, keep Cavill, burn the rest down.
As expected, I enjoyed it. Not as good as Wonder Woman, but I thought it was a solid super hero movie that is moving the DCEU in a positive direction. Probably a 7/10 for me. Some specifics. Spoiler - I'll start with my one big complaint. It is pretty obvious they completely changed how they brought back Superman to fit within the ridiculous two hour limit WB put on the movie. As others have mentioned, pretty much all of Cavill's scenes leading up to the fight with Steppenwolf show off the CGI upper lip. Combined with Cavill tweeting out pictures with of the black suit about a year ago which we never saw in the movie, leads me to believe they original script has him coming back in a more traditional way similar to the storyline in the comics. It would have removed two or the more ridiculous scenes/ideas in the movie for me: Cyborg and Flash graverobbing, and Batman thinking basically doing the exact same thing which created Doomsday would, for some reason, bring back Superman just fine. - With that said, when he appears at the end, they FINALLY get Superman right. His personality is finally what it should be, and, it might have just been me, but it seemed like he got a power boost. It was cool watching him basically beat the ever lasting fuck out of Steppenwolf without much effort. Flash pushing the truck, feeling proud, then looking over seeing Superman carrying a building to safety had me rolling. - I enjoyed all of the actors for the most part. Ezra was perfect basically playing the role of the audience. The first time he gets to see the Batcave is hilarious, especially his eyes when he is sitting in the Batmobile. Mamoa was good as Aquaman. The scene with the lasso around his leg got a big laugh from my theater. Gal Gadot is, of course, perfect as Wonder Woman. I thought Ray Fisher held his own on screen much more than I thought he would. I didn't feel like Affleck mailed it in as Bruce/Batman at all. He may want to step away from the character, but he has been a huge Batman fan his entire life. I thought he was a strong centerpiece for the movie, and I'm happy he played the role, even if he steps away. - Superman basically taking on the rest of the League when he wakes up was definitely the best action scene in the movie for me. Especially when Flash starts to move on him and Barry sees Superman is actually able to follow him when he's moving at full speed. - Agree Steppenwolf was weak, and his CGI should have been better. I didn't expect him to be strong, especially given the two hour run time. There is only so much you can develop when given that small of a window. - The after credit scenes were both fantastic. The classic Flash-Superman race for levity, and then the Lex reveal he wants to build a team (Legion of Doom, Inustice League, whatever they want to call it). It was also cool to see Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke. He looked perfect as Slade. With that said, I'm confused on the direction for the sequel. Steppenwolf mentioned Darkseid, but only once. There was a scene supposedly filmed with him, but it was cut out. With the post-credits of Lex forming a team, it seems like they might be moving that direction instead of Darkseid, which I think would be unfortunate. Darkseid is probably my favorite villain in comics. - Overall, as I said, I enjoyed it. There are some definite problems, but I had fun watching the movie. That's really all I wanted.
Just got out. Don’t think it’s as bad as the reviews say. Just pretty basic. Definitely can see the Joss Whedon infused humor in scenes. 7/10 Spoiler Felt that Steppenwolf should’ve mention Darkseid more than once to hammer home that a bigger threat is coming Batman: “yep, something’s definitely bleeding” EDIT After-credit scenes Spoiler love the nod to the “who’s the fastest” storyline from the comics between Flash and Superman in the 1st A.C. scene 2nd A.C. scene: Deathstroke looks fucking bad ass, costume is legit. Also, Luther planting the seeds to form the Legion of Doom
Affleck really phoned this one in. He's definitely done playing Batman especially with the shitty box office. I lost it when Affleck dropped this line to the team: Spoiler I guarantee you Steppenwolf isn't out there talking about ethics
Just got back from showing. Tried to cover too much in too short a time frame. Horrible way to bring back Superman. Too much love going on.
Yeah, I'm really curious where WB goes with these DC films now after the poor box office of JL. Obviously Aquaman and Wonder Woman 2 are safe. I assume they'll still move forward with Shazam since that is so far into pre-production. Most of their developmental slate is probably up in the air now.
I think they're going to (A) end their relationship with Snyder, and (B) focus on stand-alone movies for the next several years. That's a reasonable guess when you consider a non-Snyder stand-alone (Wonder Woman) will grossly outperform a Snyder team-up movie. After the stink of this has worn off, they'll try again, probably after the new Batman trilogy is finished (without Affleck I'd wager), Wonder Woman 2 has come out, and Snyder-less Superman movie is done.
Also whenever The Batman film come outs with Deathstroke. It better have some variation of this fight from the cinematic trailer of Batman: Arkham Origins
Liked it. Liked the fact that they are setting up the old Superfriends more. Bring on more characters vs the Legion of Doom. I can watch Gal all day, everyday.
I hope the poor turnout this weekend taught them a lesson about rushing for an ensemble film to chase the $$ of Avengers. Avengers didn't work because it was just combining popular heroes. It worked because they spent a decade setting up each character with a stand alone(sometime 2) movies before bringing it all together. The patience there built up the anticipation for Avengers when it finally came out. Gal Gadot was the best part of this movie not only because she does a good job as wonder woman but because she actually has a backstory and depth you can draw upon from the previous movie and you didn't have to waste time during this movie explaining that to us. I didn't hate the movie it was fun but overall nothing extraordinary. What pisses me off is that it can be so much better. I like DC a lot more than Marvel and think it has some really great story lines assuming they don't fuck them up. Plus I am sick of the generic CGI monsters. Give me the Identity Crisis story line done well and all will be forgiven.
Got the posters today. The JL one is just on thin, glossy paper, kinda like for a photo. The Thor one is on thick, poster board like paper. DC loses again.
WB/DC got their hands on The Rock.... they basically picked up a health pack literally before the next hit kills them. This shit will go on another 3-4 years
lower than the revised lowest prediction of 96mm, which itself was lowered from the initial prediction of 130mm. Amazing
Even after having rushed into BvS, 2017 should've just been WW and Batman solo movies. Then the Flash and Aquaman in 2018. Then do WW2 early 2019 and then JL later that year.
It's a lot like X-Men Apocalypse for me. Really enjoyed some parts, but left wanting it to be better.
I feel like people sometimes forget how awful 2 of the Iron Man movies were, or how boring 2 of the Thor movies were, or how mediocre Guardians 2 was. Marvel has made some good movies, but they have also put out some piles of shit. It' just that DC has had some mind numbingly bad ones. This was a good movie.
The Marvel universe at least has a plan to it. DC is just throwing shit against the wall and seeing what sticks
I'l agree with that. It's frustrating but this act that Marvel puts out these cinematic masterpieces annoys me. Different circles I guess. Personally, every person I talked to liked it. Small same size of course, but what can you do? And XMen Apocaplyse was probably the most boring cbm ever made.
No doubt, but it doesn't mean I'm wrong. Marvel without a doubt has far better movies and has a clue. I just don't get the lovefest.
None of those movies listed share the pacing/editing issues that the DC movies have, which is (imo) their biggest issue with all of their movies.
JL had no story. That's its biggest crime. It was a few, sometimes very fun action scenes, strung together with the thinnest most inconsequential and meaningless plot possible.
Again, I absolutely agree. Marvels direction is to try and make good movies which in turn will make great money. WB seems to think that if you simply make movies, you should automatically make money, which has been proven wrong countless times. I suspect that like BvS, there will be a director's cut of JL and it will be so much better. Either they have no clue on the basics of movie making, or more than likely, WB simply doesnt care The shame of it is DC has incredible minds for the content, but keep hiring directors who want their own vision. Get rid of Snyder and let Johns and Lee handle content.
