Oh yeah. Crazy that Nolan makes Bruce training with the League of Shadows feel more real than Snyder's insanely stupid crossfit montage.
Gold. Yes, absolutely. The scene in TDK when Batman is fighting The Scarecrow and his cronies, plus the mafia guys in the parking garage. That sequence alone IMO should go down as one of the best in superhero movies all together. There was so much going on: 1. First time I had seen your main villain from previous film (Scarecrow) in first act of a film, and defeated! 2. The fighting of Batman was so real, and he's bitten by a rabid Rottweiler, so as the audience you see pain and anguish, not Michael Keaton's Batman of walking through snow, knocking out guys while not even looking. 3. Batman falls of the escaping van, hitting the garage pole in the process. That moment of Batman gathering himself, getting up, you can see the body language of, "Damn I don't know if I can keep doing this, but someone has to strike fear into these guys and that's MY job." And then falls down to the bottom of the garage on top of the van.
Might want to check that ownership structure. WB owns 30% Disney owns 0% WB just makes shitty DC movies now.
He actually says "you're letting him kill Martha Kent" but the word "Kent" is muffled due to Superman choking. So it came out as "...Martha ke--"
God yes. And then the immediate next scene he's changing his shirt and his body is all bruised and scarred. TDK is the greatest superhero movie ever.
I think Nolan's trilogy is the best "elseworlds" story of Bruce Wayne ever told. I don't think he (Bruce in particular) has ever been done better, nor has the "myth" of Batman ever been better explored.
Generally speaking, the biggest criticism I have of the trilogy is the hand to hand combat leaves a good bit to be desired.
I think that's one of the reasons I loved the films so much because the combat was realistic and not back-flips, shields/hammers being thrown randomly, protagonists/antagonists running faster than cars, etc... Yes, I'm referring to the some of the Marvel films. Civil War was sometimes overkill in the fighting, plus in editing it was obvious they accelerated the fighting to look faster. Too much, you don't need it.
Nolan did such a great job of making it clear that Batman can be outskilled, outmaneuvered, or outsmarted at any given turn. Watching Bruce plot and work around that was half the fun.
Can't agree more with you guys. flipping through channels right now to find something to watch, flipped over marvel avengers AoU to watch any nolan batman movie anyday...but then i saw rocky was on...first rocky has a place in my heart till this day
Well I wouldn't feel shameful about watching the original Rocky. It did win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, and it's a great film that everyone should watch. All the Rocky films that followed were awful, yes even the one with the Russian and Mr. T, Hulk Hogan. They were all cheesy and corny. So they aren't my thing. So the first Rocky is kinda like Godfather, Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, E.T., Forrest Gump and others. You may not personally like all of those films but they are films you should see in your lifetime.
didn't feel shameful, just saw that Rocky was on and Rocky is a classic, it will always prevail on things to watch compared to most. Its a classic, like Gladiator has been on recently too and that is a movie I will stop at and watch. Like you said, any of those classic movies comes on, that is what we are watching at my house. Don't care what anyone says. (Except when its Harry Potter weekend on freeform, my wife loves harry potter...so you know how that goes haha)
I understand that, just the form of fighting they chose for Batman could've been better. I even watched the special features about it and their reasoning made sense I just thought it wasn't as ambitious as I'm accustomed to with Nolan.
Pls Train sequence in Begins Opening of TDK Truck chase in TDK Joker pencil intro and gang discussion in TDK Clown hostage sequence in TDK Opening sequence in TDKR Stock market robbery chase and batwing reveal in TDKR
Linus Roache is always awesome. Remember when his movie Priest got people riled up back in the day. Love that dude.
Best scenes in Nolan trilogy (in no order): Bruce Wayne traveling through Asia and eventually finds Henri Ducard (Ra's al Ghul) and presents him with Blue Flower Opening bank heist of TDK Stock exchange by Bane, followed by Batman returning to stop them TDKR Bane vs Batman first fight TDKR Bane vs Batman second fight TDKR Batman/Scarecrow car garage scene TDK Joker/Batman conversation in TDK Sequence of parade with Gordon being 'killed' by Joker TDK All of the Bruce-becoming-Batman scenes BB Batman Hong Kong scene TDK
Batman's first fight in BB, when he's popping out of the shadows like an 80's slasher villain. Watching that for the first time was orgasmic.
The big rig the Joker was driving flipping over had basically the entire theater I was in saying "oh shit". Joker's reaction to his henchman getting electrocuted shortly after is amazing.
The scene between, where he's idly firing at Bateman as he speeds toward him on the...batbike?...is underrated as an homage to Nicholson's joker. It plays almost identically to Jack's Joker shooting down the Batwing with the silly, oversized-barrel gun in the first Batman.
What makes the chase scene in TDK and the first Bane fight so good is the fact that there's no music playing during the scenes. The animalistic noises attached to the truck (done on purpose) as well as the action alone created an intensity and suspense that would've otherwise been ruined by a soundtrack score. The first Bane fight shows this too- Batman literally fighting with all of his strength is conveyed through Bale's acting, not a soundtrack overlay. You can feel the effort behind his punches at the beginning of the fight, and his increasing feeling of desperation as he starts to attack Bane with different gadgets, all to no avail. My favorite scene in the whole series is the Joker interrogation. Just so much awesome in that scene. Ledger wanted Bale to literally beat him up to make the scene feel that much more real. And again, the music behind the scene there is subtle to non-existent, just tones from the Joker's theme to convey how he's getting the upper hand on Batman in the situation.
-Flash looks like a gay cross dresser that's surprised he didn't win -Wonder Woman looks like she doesn't want to be there -Cyborg trying his best to look hard and cool but he's just a nerd -Batman is Batman - Aquaman is like "say something about my old ass orange shirt, I dare you nigga"
Batman looks perfect, of course Wonder Woman too Cyborg is too small. Feels like he should be like 6'6 at minimum and thoroughly jacked. Maybe it's just the angle. Flash is fine, but the suit is too busy. Aquaman looks fine
So damn true. That's what Nolan did best what no score behind pure, raw action on screen. Loved every second of it.
I'm probably in the minority here but is this Justice League movie too late? To elaborate after we (the audience) sees something for a while we naturally want 'new.' This 'super-team' has been done in just about all Marvel movies with plethora of cameos in each film. Just my feeling is that the audience would be headed in the direction of going to back to the one hero vs villain film. We applaud the Nolan films, but even The Dark Knight Rises had some of the ensemble aspect with Batman, Catwoman, Bane, Robin, Talia al Ghul and Scarecrow. I'm just wondering if we will be that excited about Justice League. Thoughts? *note - Nolan was amazing at introducing Blake as Robin*
I watched Catching Up with the Joneses last night just for her Terrible movie, but god she's hot Almost as hot as Jon Hamm
my wife had the Golden Globes red carpet on yesterday and I was horrified to see she's currently pregnant.
