I’ve had the itch to buy a salt rig and take a trip this winter. Been the sole earner for a few years and my wife is about to start work so I’m inclined to reward myself.
I'll mainly be in Cody. The ranch is on the North Fork of the Shoshone just a few miles from the East entrance of Yellowstone. It also has a smaller stream running through it. If you have any recommendations in the area I'll take them. Was going to look into what's nearby and plan on going into Yellowstone one day.
I’m primarily on the west side of the park and south. Some time on the Madison. What size rod are you bringing into the Park?
Probably a 9 ft 4 wt. It's what I used two years ago when I was out there. Will probably have a 5 wt for the Madison float trip. My parents will be out there on their yearly trip so we're going to do the float trip with them. Maybe get my dad to bring an extra 5 wt for me to use and my wife can use by 6 wt.
I’d do Venice LA. Can get on a great speckled trout and redfish bite if you want to do inshore and it’s even better offshore: snapper, grouper, tuna, swordfish, cobia, pelagics.
My sister reeled my Stradic 3000XG backwards until the reel handle fell in the gulf. Has anyone seen that happen before? Now I have to find a replacement handle I guess this is something I need to go over with newbs when taking newbs fishing.
$42 through Shimano but out of stock until October 4th. I have a few stores checking for OEM parts. Apparently this takes a while.
Yea the same thing happened to me when I took her fishing. She backward reeled my 3000xg. I advised lubrication on the bearings but she shut that down
It's been awhile so that one felt really good Unfortunately my co-captain was ready to leave after 30 minutes Watermelon/red flake crawdad Texas rigged
That is fucking wild. Guy is lucky he walked out of there in one piece. Please post more updates as you see them.
I feel gross because the only real reporting I've seen is from barstool but supposedly they've failed polygraph tests after winning a big tournament previously and slimey lawyers got them out of any trouble. Lake Erie, BTW. https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3436292/video-huge-fishing-competition-scandal Yeah, I'm super impressed nobody took a swing or had a discussion with them away from the cameras.
I think about the consequences of being injured or worse in the backcountry/ wilderness while troutfishing every time I go. My rationale is that if I got to pick, there's no where else I'd rather go.....but I still let somebody know where I'm headed. Hell sometimes I'll draw a map for the wife and give her the old "if I'm not back by dark". Glad you're more or less ok, billdozer .
Yeah, I do too. I always have my gps on and have google maps sharing location with my wife. Even if you don't have cell signal, the gps still works. Eye looks worse than it feels anyways. Just feels like a light bruise on the bone where the sunglasses would have hit.
Damn , supply chain is really jacked. I was told October 4th for this shimano replacement handle for reel that I need. Now it's October 30th. I did find out that you can go to fishshop.shimano.com and you have to go to desktop it won't work on mobile, plug in the part #, and register your email, and they will email you when it is in. Also when you put in the part # it will tell you the estimated date they think it will be available.
The Stradics are grouped into three groups (not including the CI4's) and are becoming damned hard to keep track of...FJ's, FK's and FL's. My model is an FL and the handle part number is RD20033 and retails for $42. It's a 3000FL reel. The ones you posted are 2500FL, CI4 2500 HG, etc. But that is smart to check ebay, I hadn't thought of that. I can't find my particular reel handle on there though.
I am pretty positive it will work. The 2500 and 3000 in Shimano share the same body. The spool on the 3000 is just deeper and holds more line. The handle on that 3000 has a “T” paddle shape while the 2500 just has the straight paddle. The rest of the arm is the same. It’s the same with 4000 and 5000. 5000 comes with a knob at the end while 4000 paddle is shaped differently if you look at aftermarket knobs to add, the sizes are the same for 2500 and 3000. looks like the eBay is 3 day shipping. I guess it depends on how quick you need it lol
Good points. I might ask my local rod/reel shop guy if he thinks it would work. I bet he knows for sure. Thanks for the help. Would be sweet to have it back in action in 3 days.

Looks like you could order the paddle (17493 and the cap 17494) and swap that out if it really bothered you. No idea what the price is on that
I have several shimano rods and stradic reels. Soliciting recommendations for nice inshore rod/reels. Probably want to keep the entire setup in the $300 range max. Will make 4 inshore rods for me but it is nice to have some set up with popping cork, some with jighead, some carolina rig , and be able to just grab one rigged a certain way without having to rig up a new setup.
I sold most of my stuff and used some cash I had stuffed away from some odd jobs I did last summer to do something similar. After fishing this summer and realizing my fishing has changed I did this: Spoiler 2x - shimano Nasci 4000xgfc with bull bay infantry 10-20# rods. 20# power pro. Cut bait/live bait fishing I do with my kid 2x - shimano Spheros 3000xg with Falcon coastal redfish rod. Top water/plug/will probably use for shrimp this winter. 10#power pro 2x - shimano ultegra 3000xg with bull bay sniper 6-12#. Small jigs, jerk bait rod that I use on the flats. 8# power pro think I am going to try and snag a 2000 Vanford or maybe a complex and a light rod for ned stuff Still have my 2 tarpon rods, and fly stuff that hardly gets used anymore. I got two of everything since I usually have someone up front and me on the poking platform. Nice to be able to rig two of the same exact set ups. Bought most of the reels from Japanese companies online at considerable discount compared to prices here. sold my 2005 Stradic for $100, 2007 Stradic for $115 and my 2013 Stradic for $125 on eBay. Sold each of the spare spools that came with them for $15 each lmao [\SPOILER]
I used to have a Falcon rod before I broke it. I don't know what it was about that rod, but I loved it. Might get another one instead of Shimano.
