Went yesterday morning and found a bunch of crappie, but only one over 10". Had fun though. Probably caught 30 on mostly a itty bit slab hunter in Grenada gold. I guess you could say it was a little catch and release Spoiler
I'm going to be down in the armpit of the Yucatan (Campeche) for work at the end of October. Just found a guide that will take me tarpon fishing in the mangroves and flats for $300/day all in. He says the fishing is strictly baby and Juvenile, so up to 35 lbs. Should be a lot of fun.
SC and some NC areas are starting to open back up after Helene. And some of these SC brook trout didn't get swept downstream. Got to use a new to me rod jFeels like a 2 wt line is good for it. Probably my new SC brook trout stream rod.
Anyone interested in a brand new, still has tags and box, pair of redington sonic pro waders? Size L boot size 8-10. I’d let them go for $150 and I’ll eat the shipping
Spent 7 days out in Yellowstone. Fished all over the park, but mostly the Madison including outside the park to three dollar bridge. The warm weather didn’t seem to bother the fish. big fish of the trip Spoiler: More pics Grizz Dry fly cutthroat smallest fish of trip came on last cast
An update from the runner of Gink and Gasoline. He lives in Green Mountain, NC, one of the hardest hit. Plus a true test of an Orvis waterproof sling pack.
Sudden temperature drop hurt the fishing, but managed to find a few. And played around with a new toy.
Tried going to another area that reopened, due to downed trees and slides I had to turn back from option 1 and took twice as long to get to option 2. All for 1 tiny rainbow. Needless to say, I had the stream to myself. Should have been smarter and stayed away. Spent 80% of my time hiking/navigating trees.
Just Do It: Nike and Drake Plunge into Fly Fishing Nike sub-label Nocta, co-owned by the top-earning hip hop artist, introduced an entire new line of “fly-fishing-inspired urban wear" along with a special edition Abel reel. https://www.flyfisherman.com/editorial/nike-drake-fly-fishing/508248
Redington getting out of the wader business https://flylordsmag.com/redington-t...ft-in-focus-for-the-iconic-fly-fishing-brand/
My wife and I hiked up to where SC, NC, and GA meet. Saw a bald eagle today. Didn't fish except for 5 minutes with the packed in tenkara rod. Spoiler Nice lunch spot Barefoot fishing This tree refused to let being knocked over kill it The surveyor's etching for the spot from 1813.
With as bad as football is going for me, thinking about hitting the river Saturday for some smallies.
it seems really hard to build a midlevel wader. the Crosswater pair i had did fine for two years, but they are $140 now. the pair of sonic waders i bought lasted one season.
Will probably have to suck it up and go Patagonia when my Simms die. Or Orvis has pretty good reviews.
i think the Orvis are decent. have used the cheaper kind a few times on guide trips. they always have good materials.
I had a large red wasp nest in my waders I left hanging on the porch coat rack. That was fun to deal with They are cheap academy Magellan brand at least. I don't use waders much tbh, need to work on my fly casting and maybe I would
Ebay has been good to me for fly fishing supplies. I picked up a pair of lightly used Simms freestone waders for $120 last year. I´ve bought a majority of my rods and reels from there as well.
My only problem with Orvis is I have the Pro boots. I'm on my 3rd pair in less than 4 years and it's soles are coming apart like the last ones did. So far they haven't offered to replace these. Had them less than a year.
As much hiking as you do, I don’t think many brands would hold up that well. Interesting note from my trip to Bolivia: the guides down there work 14 weeks each year in the jungle. the average guide goes through more than 2 pairs of wading boots in this timeframe. Over the years they’ve tried Orvis, Simms, and others brands and get the same result.
I'm either going to try the Pros one more time and use a boot dryer vs sitting out to dry, or I'm going to spend the money for Patagonia River Salts. They're Danners with sewed soles but aren't as heavy as the foot tractors. The Pros have only been on 60-70 outings. Even Orvis says they should last much longer.
Hatteras trip starts Saturday. Should be on the beach Sunday morning. Lots of puppies and blues being caught. Hoping for a little better luck than last years skunkfest.
Hoping to go to the marina and find some crappie this weekend. Shout-out customer support at Deeper Sonar. Mine wouldn't work or charge because of a broken charge port. I received it as a gift and didn't have any documentation. After a few emails, they sent me a label to mail it back to them for repair. Took it to UPS on a Monday. It travelled to Lithuania, got repaired, and was back on my doorstep 10 days later.
3 night off trail backpacking/bluelining. Peak leaves, perfect weather, and the natives were hungry. Caught as many as we wanted. Switch really flipped with my kid this trip with the fly rod. Was really fun to watch.
These came on the beach so thick it looked like you could walk across them this morning. Caught 3 or 4 like this, lost fifty bucks worth of tackle in the frenzy, but goddamn was it worth it.
Much like FSU, I managed exactly ONE moment where I looked competent. Walked about 5 miles caught one spot that was about 11 inches long. 2024 can die in a fucking fire.
Took my Shimano Cardiff 200A that's on shimano rod, and my little cheap medium light spinning reel. Threw everything in the box, plastics, crankbaits, spinners etc. Finally down sized enough to get the one. Caught it on a 1/16 oz jig head and a bobby garland plastic.
Found the same 9" ones from a few weeks ago. Caught ten or so. Tried moving to find bigger ones, but it didn't work. They were hitting the BGBS monkey milk pretty good. Got a couple of hours in. 1/32 oz jig Had to retie a few times because the jig eye hole wasn't shut like I thought. Loop knots were slipping off. Went to the river yesterday for 45 minutes yesterday evening throwing a wacky senko. Finally switched to Suffix 832 braid and fluro leader on my spinning outfit. Didn't get any action though. I need the algae to get up through yonder.
A legit bluefish blitz is one of the coolest things to experience in fishing. Especially from the surf. They’ll literally beach themselves and eat anything with a semblance of flash in it. Oftentimes some nice stripers hanging out underneath to much on whatever leftovers fall through.
Here it would be bull drum following, but it was a cool ass experience. Total sensory overload, with the birds joining in.
