You should be fine with Rio Gold, that’s a good line. I’ve heard people complaining about memory issues with Rio lines over the past couple years, but I haven’t experienced that.
you have quite the setup! Get a lot of this off eBay? I’m still newer-ish to fly fishing, have been buying all my stuff from local shop. Like to support them plus they throw in free nice line, backing etc. Trying to plan out a few trips for next year… open to any recs! Have a few things in mind.
MIddle of nowhere Idaho or Wyoming is where I'd like to go. You always have SW Montana, but it's extremely crowded. Crane Creek near Springfield is unique for a local place for you.
crane creek is a good call out. Pretty good haul for me to that part of the state so I don’t make it down there a ton. I did fish taneycomo last month. Didn’t love it. I was thinking of hitting: - white river in Arkansas in May - eastern Idaho in July - potentially go up to Michigan for king salmon around September And then some local stuff when I can
Yea, 80% eBay purchases. If the timing is right you can get 40-50% discounts. One super underrated place I’d recommend is northern Idaho. Coeur D’Alene and St Joes rivers. There’s not much pressure there, it’s pristine, and you can DIY everything. I plan on moving to CDA eventually. If you can get a permit for the Wind River range, I’d recommend that too
Had a sudden cold snap so I figured the wild trout would be off, so I went and harassed the delayed harvest stockers. A lot of Helene changes. This used to be a 10 ft wide sandy beach. And this pile of trees that has been there forever is gone.
i went to DH spot on Sunday and swear one of the falls is gone there. caught a some fish in a few hours despite a few campers who had been hitting it hard all weekend.
Already had the Simms Challenger Bibbs but just added the jacket. Now I just need the deck boots and while I may not catch anything I’ll at least look legit
Back in the states for Thanksgiving. Going red fishing on the fly tomorrow thru Tuesday. Did some practice in my parents back yard today and caught a nice bass. Has something changed with posting photos? I got a new phone, and now it seems I can't directly embed a photo.
My wife did not appreciate my attempt to do some redfish on the fly during our trip to Amelia island for her bday. She was interested when I suggested the idea of a boat ride, but when it turned into a boat ride with fishing poles and a guide she wasn’t as thrilled lol.
See if the live is on your photos. Typically makes them too large for the server to process. Turn off live and try to take a picture and post it
Trying to post photos again, nice red today with the 8 weight. Fishing southeast of New Orleans in the marsh. I caught 4 reds by 9am and then the bite turned off. Had about 10 refusals the rest of the day.
Another thing, my guide was the lead guitarist for Galactic. He guides in his spare time as a hobby. Awesome dude with great stories
glass calm and low incoming tide this morning. So, did the only thing that made sense Spoiler Hit up some creeks with the kids. Lots of these guys. All the same exact size. I can’t wait next time I throw a fly rod in the boat for it to be blowing 25+ and overcast View attachment 24185
Got into a school of Reds chasing mullet yesterday. It was 2.5 hours of non stop action for me and my dad. My right forearm is in need of some TLC today. The fish on the top was 42”, so I would estimated 30 - 32 lbs
The Milkman since you have time and money, here would be a great experience. The Jensen's are starting to guide again. https://jensenflyfishing.com/guiding/
Saw this deal on IG on Winston pure https://redsflyfishing.com/products/rl-winston-pure-single-hand-fly-rod
Yeah. I think it'd be a good time. I just don't think I'd be able to talk the wife into letting me do it.
I looked at their site, I didn’t see a price listed. I assume it’s one of them and probably 2 fisherman at a time. It may not be too steep This Reds trip is being hosted by their fishing education guy. He runs Red’s university. I’m really excited about that part. He guarantees one day of “advanced streamer tactics” and one of “water reading”. Hoping to up my game a bit. The rest of the time you’re hooked up with Patagonian guides
It's $750, so like a Montana float trip now. You are hosted/guided only by Dave or Amelia Jensen. - We host one or two anglers per guide. - We find 4 to 12 interesting, solid trout (as you see in our videos) per day to break down (often many more but that’s situational) - While we may plan to do one tactic we may have to dive into other tactics based on conditions. We’ll certainly cover and detail the primary goal you inquire about but may have to apply other tactics. - Please come prepared with your A-Game of approach & casting, prepared to learn subtleties while listening attentively and prepared to give your best try as you apply our suggestions!
I've decided to assemble a bamboo fly rod from a blank. Ordered the blank and the piece parts and build a wrapping jig. Still waiting on the blank to arrive, but I've starting practicing guide wraps. It will be a 7' 3 wt rod. Some of the practice wraps. Slowly getting better.
