Went to a pretty gross but very local pond today that was recently stocked just to get my youngest and his friend guaranteed catches. On the dock there was a group of 7-8 middle school kids who would stomp/stab/punch all the fish they’d catch, then toss them back out. After about an hour there were maybe 10 rainbow trout/black crappie that the wind pushed up to the bank. Their parents could not be bothered to even pretend to comment. It was just wildly bothersome behavior to do in front of adults. thx 4 the vine
I've become a perch whisperer it seems Bass/crappie/perch/bluegill. 1 of each for me Central Nebraska grand slam?
Carp spawn in full effect. Would've been fun to go John Rambo on them while walking the bank. Damn things were piled up.
Got skunked yesterday dicking around with a hopper dropper and throwing streamers. All the flies i used, not to mention what I lost. When you know you’ve had a long day haha
targeting some bigger browns, but there are smallmouth in same river that we’ll sometimes catch too. I am going on a smallmouth day-trip in 3 weeks though.
Sounds like they watched that idiot Alaskan Family TV show. One of their kids would punch caught fish as it that was a quick kill ot some shit like that
Woke up to a text from the old man asking if his Grandson was awake yet. Told me to hurry up because one of the catfish poles was hooked up overnight. My son has never woken up and gotten ready quicker in his life. 8.12 pounds before 8am. Have a day buddy.
Got another spool for my 6wt and am rigging it up with a sink tip line. Now I can flip between floating line for dries/nymphing and sink tip for streamers depending on how the day goes. The spot I like I’ll be out for 8-9 hours wading. Building out a smaller streamer assortment to go with it.
i have two reels for my 8wt and a few spools with different set ups. my 6 keeps a floating line on it. I have to buy a new one soon.
Back 2 back casts. Bluegill are spawning. Bass were either hunting in packs or laid up right outside the shallows. Post spawn but still felt good to get into some ditch pickles
you use the 8 for smallies? I have a 7 with floating and sink tip but it’s a little much for the small streamers and dries/nymphing
i thought i would a lot more than i do. if i rig two rods for a smallie trip, one is my 6 the other an 8.
Gotcha. That 8 is probably nice if you’re floating throwing big streamers all day long without many breaks, but maybe overkill for the smaller stuff like woolybuggers. I only recently got the 6. Just had a 5 & 7. Got the 6 to take out on my Idaho trip this summer, but really like it around my local stuff now and will be perfect for the white river.
for larger topwater the 8 is a lot nicer, those are difficult in windy moments. i planned to chase striper or reds when i got the 8wt. haven’t caught either on a fly yet.
I guess, it's in the black bass family. They're redeye bass like you'd find in Alabama. They're basically the brook trout of bass. Only grow an inch a year, live in rivers and love surface flies.
as I understand, it’s one of the red eye species. only in a few SC drainages, all in the western part of SC or “Upstate”. they have the small jaw like a smallmouth and the one in my hand is a nice size.
Took me a long time to get back on the train, baby There's at least a dozen. Baby Shad Electric Chicken was on the menu.
Calling for 2.5-2.8 ft at 6 seconds and some rain for the tournament this weekend. Trying to run 80 miles to the spot we want to get to. Might be running 25 mph in some slop. Sounds terrible.
A guy I know who does commercial fishing has been catching 20+ # snapper (sent pic of one that looks like it was between 25-30#) up against shelf rigs in about 300 feet of water. Because they will run into the rigs and break you off, you need 200-300# mono . The current has been ripping too so even a 16oz weight probably is gonna drift off sideways and you can't get vertical . So you are going to have to have a bent butt rod to handle that amount of lead to do this. So have some wind on leaders of 200 # mono attached to my electric bent butts and probably will have to use 3-6# weights to stay vertical. My friends dad is a charter guide and is going to go catch us 4-6 dozen live baits Friday. We'll leave out at probably 430AM Sat morning for the tournament and with this crappy sea state it will probably take 3-4 hours to get to the shelf. You can't have lines in the water until 8AM anyways. Then the plan is to drop live baits near the rigs and try to get 3 20+# snappers in the boat and win the tournament. No one else is probably going to be doing this . Everyone else goes to structure and wrecks way closer in than this. Weigh in is 5PM-8PM so I want to be back at the harbor by like 7PM at the latest. Strippers and cocaine if we win .
