Hit some bream today and the nearby lake. Just kinda searching the banks found a few, then landed on a bed and started getting some red ears. Ended up with ~20
You and me both. I think there have to be some rat reds in there at the very least. Got a decent pompano in the surf today too (not on fly though).
Without giving away that I didn’t read closely, where you at? Gulf I assume but dunes give nothing away.
bartrams traditionally existed only in the savannah river system, but lately they’ve been identified in the broad river system.
I'm going fishing in the glacial lakes area next week. Apparently SD fishing is hot as a pistol right now. It's a super underrated fishing state tbh
Yes it was. Got another 30-40 bream off these beds today. And those aren't even cleaned out yet. Mostly bluegill and few Red Ears. A couple long ears but not worth keeping.
The wind was a mother fucker. We caught a pile of fish anyways. Mostly walleye. Also some perch, catfish, a drum and a sauger. Thought I hooked into a hog, it was a plump carp.
That hybrid was a trip on my UL with 4lb test. Hooked three and was only able to land that one. Not disappointed that the other two snapped. I did all I could fighting them with the drag just ripping.
Got me a smallie We did pretty good again. Only a couple 20+ inch walleye. A lot of eater size though. Front pushed through and really fucked things up. Topped out at like 49 degrees and rained the last hour or so. Totally worth it though.
My dad has a scaler he made for bream and perch. That makes the process much easier. Scale, gut, chop head off. Good to go Basically it’s this
Hiked up to Ellicott Rock, which is the corner where SC, NC, and Georgia meet. Covered about 8 miles today and was able to get into some nice wild trout, plus a bunch of chubs and other river fish. more fish pics Spoiler
HOOSINSC, I've got a year long pass for NC now. Any recommendations for rivers near me? I'd assume Davidson and Tuckaseegee, but I'm sure they'll be packed today and tomorrow.
I'm currently not having a good time fishing. I camp and run limb lines for catfish this time every year. Same spot . Been doing it with this bunch since I was a kid. I was skunked for two nights two weeks ago. Got skunked again last night. Lines are baited now. Coldest Memorial Day Weekend I can ever remember. Camping is at least fun.
Where do you live or where are you currently? I'm in the same area right now and am planning to go exactly here tomorrow.
davidson is gonna be tough until summer is over. you could try it during a weekday if you have time. there is a ton of wadeable water on the tuck if the east dam is turned off, get familiar with the cullowhee usgs page and duke flow releases are updated daily, i usually don’t trust the flow schedule until the afternoon before i go. https://lakes.duke-energy.com/index...9878112.1595546996-953506166.1590235612#/flow the tuck is a low gradient river so the water takes a while get to and move out. i typically fish around either east laport or dillsboro, but it’s such a big ass river horsepasture has a lot of falls and isnt far from you. deep creek near bryson city has big fish, but is crystal clear and you have to sneak up to them. south mills is good, but you wanna hike up a few miles from turkey pen gap. laurel creek is good, but some private land means you have to hike panthetown valley is the headwaters of tuck and has a lot of little brook trout the west fork of the pigeon around sunburst is good as well as the east fork near the shining rock trailhead. the one i haven’t done that i really need to is linville gorge. that’s best if you plan to hike in and camp.
i realized i typed “is good” a dozen times in my previous post. please try to look past this. jimmy jacobs wrote a book on trout streams of the southern appalachians. it’s worth buying the latest edition. i haven’t fished the nantahala much but it’s a tailwater and holds some big fish.
I caught a bunch of ladyfish in the surf this week which is always a lot of fun. Also got bit off a few times by what I assume were bluefish or Spanish. I saw a handful of decent reds cruising the beach but didn’t get any good shots. South winds all week made it pretty damn choppy.
Another new creek at negative tide and 15 mph wind. Missed a few also this was outside the creek the day before
My st croix rod replacement is apparently on back order until July and they failed to mention that when I ordered it. Sheesh
Thanks. I'm thinking of driving to the Little Snowbird tomorrow. A trip down memory lane from when I caught my best brook trout. And I actually fished the Horsepasture yesterday. Only caught a bass and shiner. Will do a post here in a bit.
Yesterday my dad and I took his boat up to Lake Jocassee so I could check out some of the feeder rivers. I'd fished the upper sections, but they're so steep you can't get down them (or there is a big ass waterfall). Tried out the Whitewater, Thompson, and Horsepasture. Whitewater - had to climb boulders and could only get to 1 pool. Only caught a couple chubs. Spoiler Thompson - could get to 4 pools with bouldering. There was more past a falls, but the potential path was covered in slime, so didn't try. Caught a real nice wild brown. And saw a big golden stonefly. Spoiler Horsepasture - fished for 1/2 mile, had to go over some boulders. Only caught a small bass and a shiner. Spoiler
ive never tried going up from the lake. the falls on the whitewater are some of the highest on the east coast, over a 400’ drop at the upper falls.
