HOOSINSC If I'm fishing on a Friday, is it worth trying to fish the Davidson? Or am I going to be limited to one or two holes to fish due to numbers? If it's worth it, would you fish upstream or downstream of Avery Creek? Also, I'll be in Maggie Valley in two weeks. The place I'll be staying is on Jonathan Creek, do you know of any other good places near there? Won't be able to go far.
below avery creek is heavily stocked and while you’re always gonna catch fish, up stream is less crowded with anglers and has prettier/wilder fish. if you get out a sunrise you should be able to find some spots, but moving around will be difficult after 10am this time of year. there is a left hand turn where the davidson meets looking glass creek that i like to fish near. some skinny water, but nice runs and pools. also the tubers tend to thin out above avery creek. you can fish jonathan’s creek, it’s hatchery supported, but kinda small when i stopped at a few public areas. i think it gets bigger nearer to Hwy 276. you aren’t far from the west pigeon above lake logan in Sunset, NC. catalochee creek looks close, but it’s a winding gravel road for miles to get there
you could also see how far the Raven Fork and the Oconaluftee are from you in Cherokee. you need to buy a Reservation pass for the Raven Fork. Oconaluftee is hit hard by bait anglers.
I was looking at fishing the Pigeon headwaters, looking at the West Fork and Yellowstone and Dark Prongs. I think they look fun.
i fished the west fork a month ago and caught a few browns. id like to fish it more. i don’t know about the small streams but they are all probably fun up there.
Something isn't right about this. Ocean season has max limits of 36 inches and June is a really really really weird time to catch large stripers off Virginia. there are some schoolies around all year but virtually all of them are up north now.
There would be at least one story in a paper about this, but I don't see it. Maybe this guy illegally took a fish. If that's the case, Stripped Bass are pretty heavily regulated and he'll probably lose his boat.
Ok, so this is 3 years old and that fish is only 52lb That's a big fish, but I didn't think it looked 82 https://chesapeakebaymagazine.com/wild-chesapeake-bluewater-inshore-striped-beasts/
Chipped off the very bottom of my skeg on my lower unit so have a repair shop welding a new piece on and I'm having a new prop put on as well. Place said it would take a week. One week would've been this past Tuesday. How long do you think something like that would take? Wondering if I should raise hell if this drags on two or three weeks.
I've been running with a chunk missing from skeg for years lol I take my prop off 2x a year to look for line and grease propshaft. Takes literally minutes to change the prop I'd give them till Tuesday and call.
i know. i made an insurance claim and the insurance paid for the skeg to be repaired a new prop so figured i might as well get that stuff done. now I just want my damn boat back.
do you call it a cowling or a hood. i called it a cowling the other day and my friend was saying he's never heard of that and calls it a hood.
I went on a bachelor party once where we went deep sea fishing and one of the dudes was talking a big fishing game. Throwing out all sorts of terms and catch phrases. We hooked a nice cuda on the flatline and he picked up the rod and started feeling like this and I legit fell on the deck laughing. The first mate was like wtf dude you’re a total liar
Had a good time at the DNR kids rodeo today with 2 of my kids. The stocker agent was supposed to put 2 nets worth in the "kiddie pool" area, but put 4 instead. It was like fishing at the hatchery stock tanks. Also, after all the kids were done fishing, took this with the GoPro
Was just up at Devil’s Lake, ND last weekend. Got into the walleye, northerns, white bass, and a few yellow perch.
They were, one of the resorts in town by the marina will cook them if you buy sides and drinks. Got 1 lb of fried with homemade tartar and 1 lb blackened. Was amazing!
Up in Maggie Valley staying on Jonathan Creek. I've fished the 100 yd stretch here several times, caught 20 or so, including a 12" brook. Amazing how many are in here for a creek that's barely calf high for most of it. Spoiler
Went out to a small local lake last night with a friend. Lots of bluegill and one honkin' big crappie. Pretty spot, hope we get to go back.
Anyone have any recs for a charter in/around Key West? Heading down with the GF (she’s a trooper but can’t throw a fly) for a week soon looking to go out at least once. Had some luck in St. Croix in April
i saw one of the heaviest hatches ive ever seen on an eastern freestone when i went to the cataloochee a few weeks ago.
