Went back to the Davidson today. Not as much success as last time, but I did get some accidental micro fishing in. Had a few decent ones strike/break the line. I thought that closer to the hatchery would have fisherman trails, but didn't see any, so I had to bushwack my way back to the road.
trip got delayed a few hours due to lighting and changed to a different river then we planned. also it was hot as balls. only caught one stud smallie
Got up a 4AM and fished Horn Island with a friend. At one of the spots I wanted to fish we saw some guys wade fishing with croaker and catching big trout . Pulled up a respectable difference away with the trolling motor but we couldn't catch any keepers on shrimp. We caught trout but they were all small . I dropped a waypoint though. Even though we didn't catch any keepers I'm considering it a good trip because I picked up a new area that holds fish.
Gorgeous fish. Water is so low here it's hard to want to go. Hearing that guys going out really early are having some luck. We need rain badly.
yeah if you can get to higher elevations and go early it’s okay, or learn the tailwaters where it stays cold for miles below the dams. its really hard on trout this time of year. honestly smallmouth are my favorite anyways.
what's the best place to buy tackle online? was looking at bass pro shop, they seem to have most of what I'm looking for. Trilene line, popping corks, jig head, matrix shad. That kind of stuff.
Guy building my rod had taken forever to do it. Because he does it as a side gig. He told me today that it would be shipped out at what I’ve paid so far. Which is about 100 bucks for the blank. I have never had a rod built so I have zero clue at the time frames but I wasn’t worried. I’ll probably take him up in the offer and if the rod is great tip him what I would have owed. I feels bad dude as worked hard in the rod when he has gotten a chance
was trying to just order it online so I don't have to go anywhere. But I've heard Sea2Swamp is pretty good.
I went out to a couple of platforms in lake Borgne this past saturday. Caught a bunch of little white trout. No keepers. Was fun.
I've never had much success at Lake Borgne. The Rigolets are pretty sweet though. Good fishing at the Train Trestles. Black Bay is the GOAT for me
Not a Lake Borgne fan but you can find some nice Blackfish/Tripletail there. We’ve had an unusually cool summer until 2-3 weeks ago. Those water temps are finally up, so I’d be in/on the water before sunrise. Solid bite won’t last long at all for trout.
Got back out tonight. Same lake as we've been fishing. A few bluegill, some nice crappies, and something we haven't caught here all summer. Three Pickerel. Boy howdy do they put up a fight! Exciting stuff, having one smack a lure and peel off line against your drag...
At the beach for the week, so I've been tying flies. Also, don't remember if this fisher has been posted I do appreciate the fish's buddy grabbing the bug after his sacrifice.
Fish a lot on our family farm pond. Catch nice bass, but this was the best ever on the pond. Hit like a brick.
I've caught 2 pickerel this summer in different places. Never had caught one before, definitely a fun little fight. But both times I caught then, they slapped a lure and got hooked on the outside. Mean, tough bastards.
I hooked up to like 10 ladyfish yesteday and probably 50% of those broke me off. I can't tell if I'm tying my knot really shitty or do they have teeth that cut the line?
I'd have to look at knot diagrams to figure it out. It's a knot that some dude that catches more fish than anyone I know taught me.
I use the Palmor knot. Lady fish don’t have Teeth to really be doing that many lines. Blue fish in the other hand would.
yeah, near bull sluice. i'm blaming my skunk on the rafting guides who decided to teach back rowing through the hole i was fishing.
I have used the same loop knot for last 15 years at least. It's all I use. It's just a bowline but instead of just making a loop for the bunny to go through, use an overhand knot to make it not come apart like a bowline. Quick, simple and I've never broken off at the knot. Youll break off at your leader connection knot before this breaks
