Any recommendations for guides or general areas to get some fishing in around Asheville in October? Wife has a work conference so I figured I would tag along and spend some time on the water, last time I was in the area I fished the South Toe with some decent results but mostly smaller fish.

So, anyone fished Lake Meredith in Texas? Me and some friends are considering making a trip since they have a resident Walleye and Yellow Perch population and that's hard to come by in Texas.

PISGAH RD: Flood damage updates on 8/18/21
This afternoon NC 276 opened to the Ranger Station and Davidson River Campground re-opened. Tomorrow, August 19th, the Visitor Center will also be open.
All Forest Service Roads will be closed as of tomorrow morning to allow for proper assessment to ensure public safety. Staff plan to work through the weekend to re-open roads as possible. Significant damage has been seen through the 276 corridor and long term closures should be anticipated.

I've wanted to fish the South Toe, but it's too far of a drive from where I am. Black Mountain campground starts the catch and release section.

There's also the South Mills River, Davidson, and Pigeon rivers near there.

Look up Unfathomed on Youtube for salt water fishing.

Venice should be absolutely incredible this fall - it is already really good right now. The river is around 4', as low as its been in 9? years.

Venice tacks on a few extra hours driving even though it's not that far from delacroix. Plus, it's fun to do a quick trip into New Orleans which is like 30 mins from delacroix. We went in last time after fishing in the morning to watch ND kill FSU

I’m in New Orleans so I am with you - I always go to Hopedale/Biloxi Marsh. No need to run to Venice.

I can also help you with some spots in that area. Get a map and a dart. Throw dart at map. Fish there.

Went to the West Fork of the Pigeon since the Davidson and Parkway were out of service. There was a lot of damage in WNC, several smaller bridges were taken out.

Currently looking at a 4-5 day getaway to Blue Ridge, GA and I’ve always wanted to fly fish for trout, I’ve just never had the opportunity.

Anyone ever fished in that area? Toccoa River seems to be pretty solid. Looking at March or April, but haven’t figured out when is the best time.

Also, I plan on doing a fly fishing course locally and will eventually look to get my own setup. Any recommendations or suggestions are welcome. I saltwater fish in FL a lot, but mostly offshore so it’s a completely different ballgame.

there are a bunch of shops in Blue Ridge, GA you could look to, Cohutta, The Fly Shop Co, Appalachian Anglers, and Toccoa River Outfitters. I think most of the Toccoa needs to be floated, I have done very little in GA. I think High Cotton can help a little more than I could.

It's a good start. If you haven't found them yet, the best resources I've found are Tim Flagler (tightline) on Orvis's site or Youtube, Charlie's Fly Box (charliesflyboxinc.com), and RiverKeeper (https://www.johnkreft.com/). IntheRiffle is also good.

For the midge, I would use smaller wire.

Same for the pheasant tail. I can't tell if that's peacock herl or not, but that can be cleaned up a little. I've gone to using one set of pheasant tails instead of 2. I use the tips for the tail, wrap it forward, then form the legs at the end by splitting the butts to each side and cutting them to around the hook point. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to help answer them.
