Dam MNW almost lost lastnight to norland Northwestern senior quarterback Teddy Bridgewater often has been compared to former Bulls quarterback Jacory Harris. After Thursday's fall preseason classic against Norland, the comparisons will heat up even more. Trailing 34-27 with just over two minutes to play, Bridgewater led Northwestern on a 90-yard, 12-play scoring drive to secure a 35-34 victory over Norland at Traz Powell Stadium. Bridgewater, who is verbally committed to Miami, threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Eli Rogers to cut the deficit to one, then completed the two-point conversion pass to Clinton Taylor. Rogers who is also committed to Miami, had nine receptions for 129 yards and two scores. Bridgewater, who ran along the Bulls' sideline after he completed the two-point conversion pass, said that he wasn't worried about the drive. ``I told my guys to get on my back,'' Bridgewater said. ``Moments like [Thursday's] are where players make a name for themselves. The whole offense made big plays when we needed them to.'' The Vikings built that 34-27 lead through their ground attack, deploying a stable of ball carriers the gashed the Bulls' defense for 193 total rushing yards. Junior Randy ``Duke'' Johnson led with 82 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Junior receiver Brandon Snell, the cousin of Bridgewater, made numerous big plays for Norland, scoring three touchdowns (two receiving and one rushing). • Cypress Bay 30, Monsignor Pace 27: In an exciting finish, Cypress Bay quarterback Jaranta Lewis scored from two yards out with 32 seconds left to give the Lightning the victory over Monsignor Pace at Cypress Bay High School. The game was shortened to three quarters before J.V. players played a one-quarter scrimmage. Trailing 20-7 late in the first half, Pace fought back on a 90-yard kickoff return by Travis Greene 19 seconds before halftime cutting the lead to six. Lewis finished the night 7 of 14 for 125 yards and threw two first-half touchdown passes. -- BILL DALEY • Dr. Krop 30, South Broward 19: The Lightning wore out host South Broward, who had players going both ways in the preseason game in Hollywood. Quarterback Gavin Block scored twice om 3-yard runs, and sophomore standout Paul James was a force on the defensive line and caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Johnny Durante to help spark the comeback win. -- JIM VARSALLONE • Columbus 18, Southridge 12: Brandon Radcliff's 2-yard run with 22 seconds to play provided Columbus a come-from-behind victory over Southridge in a preseason game at Harris Field. The victory came despite the Explorers amassing 148 penalty yards, with the running game providing a reprieve for the Explorer offense, totaling 154 yards on the ground and 63 through the air. Radcliff finished with 70 yards rushing on 12 attempts and running back Collin Alford gaining 46 yards on 7 attempts. -- JIM COX Read more: http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/08/27/1794458/teddy-bridgewater-leads-late-northwestern.html#ixzz0xowW6yBY
northwestern sucks this year, all they have is teddy and eli. we should've blown southridge off the field, but those god damn penalties . it also doesn't help that refs in dade have a permanent hard on for columbus and call everything against us
we lost ALOT of talent from last years squad especially on O but we should be "ok" on defense. Losing bobby hart ot STA sucks as well. I'm expecting our usualy .500 season. Our coach is a great guy but he sucks at coaching. Hes had atleast 3 teams over the last 10 years that could have went to the state title game but they underachieve everytime we have talent
