Medina Spirit died this morning of a heart attack while training
Tragic. He was such a scrappy horse with so much heart.
a little too much heart it seems
Weird how all of Bafferts horses continually rebreak on the lead and also die of epo induced heart attacks.
And how almost all are total flops at stud
Or in arrogates case - the full trifecta
I was pretty shocked how well supported justify was and then even more shocked at how well his babies sold for
Lack of scat daddy at stud probably helped.
would rather have mendelssohn. almost bred one of my mares to him this year. chose spun to run x2 and outwork instead
have a weanling practical joke on the ground. thought about selling in november, but i think i'm going to keep him and send to someone in like july to try to get ready to get to the races early
a guy i know has the video of medina breaking down
apparently is trying to sell it to tmz lol
that’s pretty gross
I haven't opened this thread up in awhile, but saw Gallant Knight pop up in my podcast feed so I thought I would. Congrats on all of your recent success, pal.
You know you’ve made it when you’re invited for horseplayer Thursday
Ha! Second time I’ve been on
Following inside the pylons has helped my betting strategy so much
Same. I've hunted down pretty much every podcast interview he's ever done. The Beem ones are invaluable.
Hope he can stay healthy enough to reach the met mile
Opening day at Sam Houston this Thursday
Just had to threaten to file a lawsuit on social media to get sam houston to run a stallion stakes race next week
100 people paid $600 when their horses were yearlings to qualify for this race and because only 3 entered they were just not going to run a $75,000 race and tel us to fuck our selves
racing secretary called me 10 minutes after I posted and said they would run lol
so did they get more horses? and is your horse gonna win?
Since you don't seem too shy about sharing and I'm curious, what's your annual burn to keep that horse housed/trained/fed/etc?
Is there any reason to think Pinky Ring Bling is vulnerable? He towers over the field on form, though I know your horse hasn't run since June, so I'd expect him to run a better race than he did in the summer just purely from a development standpoint.
I do prefer your horse over the 5, for what that's worth, and the other two seem like the horses that were added just to get the race to be run.
Pinky ring bling has never finished in front of a horse that’s won a race
Asmussen will scratch his
my horse had a minor injury when we ran him over the summer so he didn’t show his best
I think he will run his best race this afternoon. The consensus is that mg horse is the best in the field but not sure if he will need a race fitness wise
$65/day per horse in training in Texas, Oklahoma or Louisiana. It’s around $100/day for the big name trainers
$20-30/day if they’re on a farm and not at the track
If this horse runs well this afternoon there is another $75k Texas station stake on 2/19 that will be a similar short field and then a $100k stake for Texas breds in late March
so if he runs well he will be entered in $250k worth of stakes races over the next two months
would be nice to win one of them.
have 3 stakes wins so far. Need another trophy to balance out the display
Honestly not as bad as I would have thought.
This is typically the time of year I'll take a look at the future pool. Unfortunately, the horse I would have been most interested in betting (American Icon) didn't make the list of betting choices.
The horses I am going to at least track going through this weekend are:
- Classic Causeway (ML 30-1)
- Emmanuel (ML 50-1)
- Epicenter (ML 15-1)
- Mo Donegal (ML 12-1)
- Rattle N Roll (ML 30-1)
- Zandon (ML 12-1)
I refuse to take anything under 20-1 this far out (and even in the 20-1 to 25-1 range, they'd have to be one of my top 2-3 horses to consider them). My guess is the Epicenter/Mo Donegal/Zandon group takes more money then I would like (and if Epicenter doesn't, it's likely because he disappointed this weekend), but I included them on the list since at these early stages they haven't taken a ton of money in the pool.
I like Rattle N Roll the most of those other three. I am concerned that he hasn't worked yet since being taken out of consideration for the Breeders Cup Juvenile. But on the other hand, I loved his Breeders Futurity, and his delay to getting back to the track may get his odds to a very appealing place for a horse that would be my top Derby contender if he was working right now. And he is at least galloping, so I don't think he's too far away from getting back to the track.
Classic Causeway is probably the second horse I'd be most likely to bet of that group.
I ended up taking a shot on Classic Causeway at 51-1. All of the others I was looking at were too short of a price for me.
Have a few exactas keying on him as well. Mostly with the group of horses I listed in the prior post, but take out Emmanuel and replace him with Smile Happy.
If you see anything you like on Friday or Saturday this week let me know-I’ll be at the NHC in vegas
I plan on winning
Sounds good. American Icon would be the one horse that I may take you up on that on, but I'll let you know on Friday. Last I saw he was 80-1, but that was as of 2 weeks ago.
I'm certainly encouraged after his performance today:
Bob should have to pay me for my win bet on Mandaloun
There is a class action going on right now of mandaloun bettors
I don't think it's a coincidence that Churchill Downs waited until now to come down with the ruling and the 90-day suspension (which would be in effect during this year's Derby). It provides them some protection against Baffert winning his current appeal regarding his ban from the next 2 Derby's. Now he would have to win a second appeal to override the 90 day suspension on top of that to be able to run any of his horses.
Will be interesting to see if he is really suspended 90 days or if he will be able to run the horses under his assistants names like almost every suspended trainer does
Got seats for the oaks and the derby locked down.
pretty pumped - will be my first time there.
Well that Saudi Cup was nuts. The winner (Emblem Road) was a Saudi-based horse that went off in the US at 113-1.
Country Grammer and Midnight Bourbon finished in 2nd and 3rd. The two favorites (Mandaloun and Mishriff) were well beaten.
If you were going to go to one of these events in June, which would you choose and why? I'll hang up and listen. Thank you kindly.
6/4 foster preview day will have the best races
the Thursday downs after dark programs are really popular with the locals
The Downs After Dark sounds pretty appealing. Cooler temps + live music sounds awesome. Good to know the about the 6/4 date too. My wife and I were gifted a trip there and a private tour from a particular trainer so I'm trying to figure out what the best use of that would be.
If that’s the case go on foster preview day
Just checked the details and apparently the tour is with a trainer named Dale Romans and then we watch a twilight race after. So maybe we'll go Thursday of that 6/4 weekend to make the most of it.
Nice he is a good guy and has some big time horses.
