tickets have been claimed, but will try this thread again in the future and will hopefully provide y’all more of a heads up next time
This city is hella underrated. Different in austin in some ways that I dig. I could see myself living here, especially if atx real estate gets worse
I’m at Preslee’s. Food and booze before kickball playoffs. Going for the ship and that sweet bar tab money. Everyone send ~good vibes~.
Won the first game 4-2. Watched the #1 seed get upset . We played the lower ranked team for the ship. 10-0 final score.
It’s typically underrated by people who haven’t been, which is weird. A lot of people move here and go straight to the suburbs, which would probably skew my perception as well.
Where the hell did this weather come from? We lost power and it sounds like lightning is hitting all around us.
I follow them and I've seen we've got something brewing out in the gulf but damn that seemed to come on quick. Power back on real fast.
The generator I bought on Tax Free Weekend in April is finally set to arrive next month. I just light one of these every night and pray I get it installed before the next prolonged outage
Is Cobos BBQ in Humble as good as their reviews claim? They're moving in down the street in EADO, taking over the old Pappa Charlie's spot
There's another BBQ spot in the neighborhood that has been under construction for at least a year now, can't tell what is taking them so long to open. J-M BBQ. Anyone know what's up with them? Best I can tell, it's based in a food truck from the heights called Willow's BBQ
Never mind this is JQ not JM. Not familiar with the Humble place. I thought they were tearing that development down for the highway reroute?
Well that was the plan, and reason why the little strip of stores has been completely abandoned over the past 12 months. I know Lina and Sly have been pretty vocal recently about opposing the highway expansion, I don't know if that has opened a short term window for some businesses to come back. One new bar has already moved in to where the old Lucky's Lodge was at the other end of the strip. Luckys pub is still abandoned, as is the supposed burger place next door. Really frustrating that this state of limbo is keeping businesses from moving in... except for fucking scooter stores
I'm staying at Hotel Lulu in Roundtop and dining at the restaurant Friday evening for my wedding anniversary. Anyone else done this before? Looks pretty neat.
It's pretty much happening, but they did just recently reopen the project for public comments. And I think there is or will be a federal investigation examining the racial disparities of who is impacted by the displacement. But in the end, monied interests will win and we'll a get a few more highway lanes for the double loopers to sit in twice a day
You might want to review the construction plans. The strip of 45/59 next to GRB/Minute Maid is all moving below grade, similar to 59 running through Montrose.
One of my good friends from HS is the landlord for that strip center (they also have a bunch of parking lots in the area in case you ever notice LAM Parking signs) and they're also planning to have a cajun/gumbo restaurant in there, in addition to Cobos going in the old Pappa Charlie's spot. I helped them get some old/leftover turf from Rice Stadium last week (new turf went in a couple weeks ago after previously being replaced about 7 years ago) and they will be using it for an outdoor patio for the strip center, so hopefully it will be a good spot to hang out before Astros and Dynamo games (and maybe even Rockets, too). And here's a nice article/interview with Raul from Cobos earlier this week in case your'e interested: https://atnewsletter.wixsite.com/atnewsletter/post/cobos-ready-to-rock-in-eado
Good shit, man. Glad to hear things are picking up there, we hate seeing such a great location (at least for us) going to waste. We've had a lot of fun in that lot and the one across the street next to Luckys watching games on the big screen
Yeah, it's a solid location and had some good times there over the years; there was about a decade run where my buddy could get us free tickets to almost any show at Warehouse Live (they own the land that it's on and are small part of that ownership group), but unfortunately most of the good acts that would play there now play at White Oak. Regardless, i went to the Astros game with him last Tuesday night (the 24th) and talked to him about it some then. They're hopeful that the area can pick up again, and my understanding is that the patio will be going up in the lot to the right of the building and they could have some food trucks in that lot, too. Spoiler: lot the right of the building Spoiler: Turf rolls being dropped off last week
I'm not sure if the other rolls are still out there, but if so, then i can put any of you in touch with the guy at Rice to grab one. Main issue is that they are super heavy and my buddy used a small crane company to help move them. The rolls were much smaller the last time they replaced them, more like strips, and we actually got about 30 of them and put the turf in our entire backyard; my best friend is homebuilder and we were able to have his lawn/landscaping guy install it for us. :)
Getting one or two big pieces of turf for your backyard is a lot better than a bunch of strips, so don't be mad sir! Our back yard is just a better story ;)
Any recommendations for a legit Italian sandwich? Craving one and I was gonna walk over to Antone’s but I figured there was probably some spots with the real deal.
This isn’t like full blown Italian but the sandwich of the day on Tuesday’s at montrose cheese and wine might be something for you to check out https://www.houstonchronicle.com/fo...e-are-the-four-best-things-I-ate-16398103.php
North Italia looks like they have a good one. We have a gift card from there as well. That montrose place looks legit though
It may not be but I just remember seeing that. I’ve met the owner before and he’s straight up Cajun tho
There are a bunch of mandolas. I think they’re mostly related. The deli are big UH supporters whereas the ragin cajun folks are big ole miss / ULL people. Probably cousins or something.
