It all boils down to high ridge over the SE.

There's going to be a ridge over the northeast. It looks like it's going to boil down to Jose. Right now if it keeps looping around, stays strong enough, and takes it time getting out it's going to erode the ridge enough to leave a door open for Maria to just go out to sea. If the ridge builds strong and complete enough it would most likely drive Maria into south east or east coast. Still a long way out there so a ton of variables to look at.

Not if you live in the Lesser Antilles (particularly Dominica / Guadeloupe), PR or the USVI. Looking pretty grim for some of those people.

 

btw, if you're counting at home, this is four Cat 4/5 Atlantic storms in the past month.

 

Pretty much the same path that Irma was projected to take

They are still playing music, but in between songs are taking calls from people on the island and giving updates on what is happening in Dominica

My sister lives on St John and she has been helping since Irma with evacs and supply shipments. She estimates about 3500 of 4200 permanent residents are still there.

Mostly West Indians or elderly who don't want to leave their home (or can't). Damage from Irma probably means there are a good number of folks who don't have a truly safe place to hunker down for this one.

I fear it's the same or worse across other islands. Scary stuff.

Same here. Dominica / Dominican Republic, thought they were one and the same. But to be fair, geology was never my strong suit.

Puerto Rico is going to need some help after this one. Not sure there will be a bunch of JJ Watt type fundraisers bringing in millions of dollars for them though.

 

Most of their emergency and relief allocations were shared with/sent to the VIs over the the past few weeks too. Their shelters are full of evacuees from other islands and their supplies are low. Same with St Croix. Not ideal, to say the least.

Jose isnt gonna do much to the US. some trop storm winds along the coasr and thats it. Maria is barreling down on Puerto Rico

Though if it takes the same path as Jose it's going to really fuck up the coast. Jose is causing a good bit of flooding in the OBX, can't imagine what a stronger hurricane will look like
