Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Emily later on Today) :aero: but seriously, it will be at most a Cat 2 if it hits Fla. Board the glass, close school and work that day anda ll is good, nothing to really woory about. I just went through my Ins. policy and see that about 45% of it goes to Hurricanr coverage, considering we haven't been hit by anything bad in this area since the trio of 04 (Orlando) I hope there is minimal damage, then again there is something alluring to me about the story and attention that a huge monster storm makes that you get to experience.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Emily later on Today) If it is pretty well organized and makes landfall in Florida me and some of my chasing buddies are gonna go down there for an eye wall intercept and try to get in the eye... I'll post some videos and pics if it all works out
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Emily later on Today) It is officially now Tropical Storm Emily. 40mph winds. Tropical storm warnings for Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, and Dominica. TS watch for Haiti. Official track takes across Dominican Republic and into the Bahamas. 5 track day has it off shore of Ft Lauderdale by less than 50 miles as a hurricane with 90mph winds.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Keep it the fuck away from Tally. If my moving this weekend is interrupted, I will be less than pleased.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) This site is basically visual porn of hurricane tracking. http://spaghettimodels.com/
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Still too far out to say. It has to get across some really mountainous terrain of the Dominican. Also the last model runs were around noon or 2pm eastern. Should get a full update at 11pm eastern.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Jim Cantore just got a semi thinking of the possibilities
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) i'm really pessimistic about this plus my dad is flying in from south america on friday so i'm assuming his flight gets cancelled/postponed
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) He has been quiet on twitter. Usually he is all over this type of thing. Depending on when he leaves on Friday; he could be good.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) If you have noticed; he has gotten out of the hurricane business and is more into the cold weather stuff. He tries to stay out of the direct path of the hurricane. I remember him in the mid to late 90s getting right into the middle of the worst of the storm.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) I hope this thing picks one path and stays there. I'd love to have Saturday off of work.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) No changes with the 11pm update. The official track stays the same. Other model runs are taking the storm to the east of the Bahamas.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Can someone post some up to date radar images... My Internet has been down for the past 2 days
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Stupid question but I'm flying out of FLL on Thursday night. No chance it speeds up before then right?
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) There is always a chance it could but at this point it is not expected to do so. It is not expected to be near the coast of Florida until Saturday morning at the earliest right now.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Newest CMC has it going south of the islands, cutting over Cuba and blowing up in the Gulf just south of Panama City by Sunday. GFS keeps it east of the Bahamas HWRF goes a litter further west than the GFS, blows up but stays off the coast of the SE US Experimental HWRF goes 10-20 miles offshore of Cape Canaveral Think the tracks won't go further west of now, probably only eastward movement.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Such an ugly storm by every standard. Most of the models are taking it further west across Haiti and eastern Cuba before the northern turn. Even more models are now trying to take it into the Gulf. They still have no clue what this thing is going to do. It has to get by Hispanola before they will have clear picture on the track and strength.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) symwe The last IR frame on the recent loops show some good symetry emerging from the overnight cluter of thunder storms, maybe the sheer is letting up? Anyways this morning it looks better than yesterday although it appears destined to be a small storm (in radius) particularly with the dry air north of it. I kinda had a moment this morning that reminded me of Charley, a small tight storm now with some projections of is slowly heading over cuba and up the lower west coast of Fla, thena quick right turn through the state (according to some models at least)
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) If it makes it into the Gulf I would be concerned. Water is very warm, in the upper 80's near 90 in some places. Models are just having such a tough time picking it up, some are completely dissipating it in the next 36 hours.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Yeah it is trying to organize a little better. The enhanced image I am looking at shows that it has finally split up from a big glob into a smaller more organized in the last 6 hours of storm and it is starting to take in energy from the break off storm that is to the southeast of it. Should see some growth later on today. Agree that it will be a small storm in the size factor. If it somehow finds it way into the gulf; it will explode in strength. A couple of factors needs to come into play. The high pressure system over the states needs to weaken and the low pressure system moving east over the ocean has to pick up forward speed quickly before it can consider making it into the gulf.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Like that most of the models are taking it away from southern florida, don't like the prospects of this thing emerging in the gulf and really exploding in force
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Odd to hear from a fan of Miami hurricanes
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Just now seeing this. Now every single news station in South Florida will turn to Hurricane Watch and scare people into buying all the supplies...
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) There is no better economic stimulant than a nature disaster. Spoiler see the weather machine that the president uses
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) I know but it becomes like Panda Watch. Hurricane Andrew changed the landscape of South Florida forever. Moved the latins who lived in Homestead out to the West Pines areas that became overly developed with complexes.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Yep it is part of life in an hurricane prone area. Just like watching the river is part of life in the Mississippi river region.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Starting to look good on the images. Up to 45 mph
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Track now takes it east of Florida and up the coast towards GA and NC
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Why do hurricanes always come on weekends?
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Odds that is feints over Hispanola, and jumps left to hit the A gap between Cuba makes a break into the second level and takes on Florida head on?
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) This bitch gonna change After the mountains
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Storm will either A) die over Hispaniola or B) go north and east as it hits the Bahamas. Guess we will wait for the next one.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Starting to look like a big glob of mess south of the islands. Models are getting more consistent with the track that has no landfall in the States.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Revised forecast for the season is out from William Gray and others. No changes from the beginning of the season.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) How much do you think someone could be paid if they could consistently kill hurricanes? Or at least weaken them a noticeable amount?
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) storm still looks like shit, all busted and hard to tell where the center of circulation is.. Rainmaker at most IMO.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Would rather someone be able to kill tornadoes. I know hurricanes do catastrophic damage but at least you have a few days to get the fuck out of the way.
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) maybe someone here can give me an answer, what the fuck is up with the hurricanes these last few years? haven't had any kind of landfall in what feels like a long time on the SE coast
Re: Official Hurricane Season Thread (Tropical Storm Emily) Think I'm gonna head to Tampa Fri after work if the rain isn't too bad here.
