I saw this morning Wednesday is the expectation but idk if thats Wednesday night, morning. Also, still a little early to tell for sure. I’m flying out of Tampa Thursday. Terrified.
For those of us that never deal with hurricanes (minus Hugo & Helene). Do these mid-Nov hurricanes happen often? Or do they happen just not as strong as the ones in August/September?
No. The last time a hurricane hit the U.S. during November was in 2022, when Nicole made landfall in Florida. Before that, Kate came ashore in November 1985 and Yankee made landfall in November 1935, both in Florida.
No, they don’t happen often. Since 1851, there has been almost one tropical storm per November annually resulting in one hurricane every 3-4 years in the Caribbean. But many stay over water. Only 4 have hit the US, but Central America and the Caribbean islands have been hit by more. Unfortunately, they can still reach major hurricane status.
Hurricane season is shifting later and later every year. We are seeing less storms in June and more in November.
Sup gentleman, checking in. I tried to log in to TMB from my phone before Helene, but it wouldn't let me. That was the first red flag that real danger was afoot! We (Anna Maria Island) expected flooding, but not to the extent we got. My house is ground level and was completely flooded, plus I lost my car. I ended leaving on foot, helping random people until about 4am. The Island had a decent amount of elderly that didn't evacuate. The days that followed were... sad. A very unique time out there, but sad. I had no power or cell service. I had no idea about the damage in the Carolina. Some of the videos I sent to my friends that same night actually ended up on the news, all of which I was unaware https://www.mysuncoast.com/2024/09/27/fire-breaks-out-home-anna-maria-island/ And then against all odds came Milton. My walls/floors/car were already fucked so next on the list was potential roof damage. I stayed for Milton as well. I don't believe the Island has seen wind like that in my life time. The various items that I salvaged from my place were taken pre-Milton to my neighbors house. I left my items on the inside staircase for their garage apartment, so it didn't get in their way in the main house. Milton managed to peel back a corner of their garage apartment roof, which allowed for the rain to directly fall right where all my items were. You have to respect the dark humor in that. My house again flooded. Actually many homes did, but it was hard for people to tell due to the existing damage from Helene. Hopefully everyone on here stayed safe!
I'm a clothes whore, so although clothes are petty/materialistic that hurt the most. The tv's, couch, car, etc didn't matter. Even more so, I took flood precautions but the water picked up a few different dressers, which threw everything on top of it into the water. Or even items on a bed. Clothes that were hanging up I presumed safe, but they weren't. It was like a confusing crime scene. How did this photo album get out of the box and make its way to my shower?
I’m not understanding the black line in the second pic when it looks like it’s trending up towards the armpit of FL?
it will eventually get sucked up by a cold front and head that direction. But it won’t be anything organized we need some rain
Seems like the steering currents will die off over the next few days. If it has westward momentum, it goes northwest over the Yucatan and just flies northeast into Florida as a rainstorm. If the momentum stops and it stays over water, the storm remains more defined and potentially stronger when it gets pulled north towards Florida. Today will say a lot about how far west it ends up
what do you mean? It’s going to dissipate into some rain and get sucked up into a front and carried over the SE/mostly Florida. It’s all in agreement there
I guess I’m confused on what you’re saying. Are you saying a hurricane is heading towards you? Because it’s not going to be anything more than some rain If you're asking about the spread in the models, well yeah there is a wide area that the center could take. The issue is there isn’t going to be a center which is what the models plot depending on when it gets sucked into the cold front will dictate who gets the majority of the remnants. Upper gulf, central Florida, south Florida. I don’t think it’s quite certain yet
We definitely got lucky, pushed just ever so south to keep Sara over Honduras. Just rain now for Florida.
