after initially requesting a release from his NLI to IU 2017 G Al Durham has decided to stick with the Hoosiers Archie Spoiler “The meeting (with Archie) went real good,” Durham’s father Al Sr. told Inside the Hall on Thursday night. “That’s what it was all about. When we asked for the release, we didn’t know who the coach was going to be. We just wanted to make sure we had our options open just in case they got a coach he didn’t like. Once the hire was made, Archie did a great job of communicating with us, communicating with Al and making him feel comfortable. He laid out his plan, showed how Al fit and the opportunity he will have and the growth he will get. “And once again, it’s still Indiana basketball. That’s hard to pass up.” “If you look at what he did at Dayton, with the type of guards he had at Dayton, Al fits right in,” Durham Sr. said. “Open floor system, lots of pick and rolls. That’s Al’s game. Shooting, getting to the basket and drawing contact. All of that fits into what he does and what he coached at Dayton. “It was almost like a no-brainer. He fits in perfectly for the style of play and what he’s looking to bring to Indiana and what he wants.” http://www.insidethehall.com/2017/04/06/class-2017-guard-al-durham-sticking-indiana/
oh mann Ed Schilling would be an absolutely amazing addition IMO http://www.insidethehall.com/2017/0...nclude-bruiser-flint-tom-ostrom-ed-schilling/
would love the Indy connection. maybe then they could, I don't know, make some fucking inroads with the IN AAU squads
Kris Wilkes' 247 profile says David Grace recruited him can't hep but think Schilling also played a role in his recruitment...
Bryant declaring for the draft but not hiring an agent I imagine that means he will be back would love to see him play on a team coached by Archie edit, Robert Johnson and JBJ following suit (i.e., declaring for draft but not hiring agents) http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...na-hoosiers-declares-nba-draft-not-hire-agent
Glad to see Archie kept Justin Smith on board. Between him and Hartman the void OG left is looking much smaller. Smith has some pretty impressive highlight reels out there- hope it translates to college quickly. I want to see AM get Clifton Moore to recommit. Seemed to be a late bloomer with a high ceiling. If there was one thing (probably the only thing) I trusted Crean on it was finding a diamond in the rough every few years. Moore could be that guy.
I think Archie knows exactly what he's doing, and this is the first time I've felt like the program is headed in the right direction in quite a while. Crean never had an elite recruiter on the staff outside of Johnson for a couple years before he left for Pitino. If you want to play with the big boys in recruiting, including Sean Miller, you better get some AAU and shoe connections. Crean didn't delve into that realm where I think Archie understands what needs to be done without breaking rules. The Schilling hire specifically reflects that.
Clifton Moore sticking with IU So the 2017 class remains entirely intact Very nice Now let's run off Priller
2008 national champ Angel Escobedo coming back to IU to be associate head coach of the wrestling program
That's big news. Sidenote: I typed "Indiana Wrestling" and selected the News option in Google. Second story: http://www.prowrestlingsheet.com/ric-flair-kicked-bar/#.WPdxU4jytPY
Some bad ass named Clif Marshall officially named strength and conditioning coach for MBB I love this staff
honestly feel like that's more for show than anything...how many high school kids have that on their record?
Ok then, question. A dude in my high school was dating a 16 year old when he was 18. They couldn't get much going at their respective homes, because of their parents. Anyway, he got caught getting a blowjob from his girlfriend near the local soccer fields. Her parents pressed charges, and he became a sex offender. That's the quick of it, anyway, but both were good kids and that kind of shit happens all the time to HSers (sans getting caught). Would he, if he were a star athlete, not be admitted into IU?
I love some of these shirts when I am wearing a Cutters shirt and someone is aware of what it means I know they are a smart/fun person https://shop.undergroundshirts.com/collections/indiana/mens
ITH with a recap of some quotes from Tuesday's media availability with Archie and the staff http://www.insidethehall.com/2017/0...lability-archie-miller-ius-assistant-coaches/ some of my favorite nuggets: - Keys for De’Ron Davis: Getting his body and motor ready to go. He needs to be able to play 25 minutes or more without fouling. “When you guys see him in Oct, Nov., you’re gonna say, ‘Wow what happened to him?'” - Keys to winning, according to Flint: “Defense, rebound and take care of the ball.”
so Christian Watford's little brother, Trendon, is a 5* F in the 2019 class this bit from a ITH article blows me away: Indiana, which Watford said was not previously involved in his recruitment, reached out following the coaching change in March. “They reached out to my brother about me a couple of weeks ago,” Watford explained. “When Archie Miller first got hired.” yo Crean, what the fuck were you doing bro?
their parents asked Crean to give him some space early on because they were already extremely familiar with the program obviously, Archie's going to reach out to reestablish good will ITH is being really disingenuous in that article, and I have that fairly sourced
The optimistic side of me wants to believe Archie will get the best out of Blackmon defensively. That said, Creans best attribute was coaching effort and James never showed progress there, so I think my optimism is misplaced.
He doesn't seem like a bad kid. But his utter refusal to play defense is infuriating and I honestly don't think he'd play all that much under Miller. He might as well get his euro career started, IMO.
Interesting. I heard that the ITH article was a pretty accurate report and due to Tommy's neurotic recruiting methods the family wasn't really sure what was going on. My info is also fairly sourced- so who knows. Regardless, it's mind-boggling that he didn't have any contact with the younger Watford. This may sound bad, but I'm to the point where I hope a bunch of shit like this comes out regarding Crean. The guy was a complete fraud and the IU administration bought it for years. If I was an AD, I would have an extraordinarily hard time hiring him once I really dug in and researched his relationships with HS coaches in Indiana. It wouldn't be pretty if an AD wanted to interview some of those coaches personally before hiring Crean.
There was none. He seemed to forget that Indiana is know for their hoop players and let them all go out of state
I've heard various things over the years, but basically Crean was an arrogant, self-important, asshat everywhere he went. I also think the whole Ron Patterson fiasco hurt his image badly and many coaches lost all respect after that. From what I remember, once Crean realized that Patterson didn't develop into the player he desired, he was looking for every opportunity to pull Ron's scholarship. He was finally able to drop his scholarship because he got a C- instead of a C in summer school. A complete asshole move that screwed over a pretty decent player (ended up at Syracuse) from Indy. Bottom line is that Crean is really bad with relationships and most people that had to deal with him couldn't stand him (media, administration, other coaches, and even quite a few of his players). He was able to last 9 years by having an unbelievable ability to sell people on his BS. He literally convinced the majority of the fan base that it would take four years to turn around the program. Four fucking years at a school with an amazing tradition and every resource he could possibly need, including a million dollar recruiting budget.
My dad always said that the people of Indiana could handle losing if it was a team full of Indiana boys, but when you neglect the state and fail to have great results, they'll eat you alive.
JBJ signing with an agent and going to get a head start on his Euro career so the roster situation should be finalized with his departure
I think this will be addition by subtraction. Never was a team player, didn't attempt to play D, bad ball handler, whined about every call, and was a terrible decision maker. Basically all he's decent at is shooting. If you can't tell I absolutely hate the way he plays and have for years. Now we just have to see if Archie can dislodge RoJo's head from his ass and get the young guards ready to go.
I can see his absence making it easier for Archie to get his system installed but I also think Archie is good enough that he might have gotten JBJ to improve in areas other than shooting. Wish Priller or Gelon were gone and JBJ was coming back simply because he is such an elite shooter but oh well he is gone and I am super excited about the future regardless because Archie Miller gets my dick hard
Our offense was incredibly limited with him. Hopefully we have a coherent offensive scheme that doesn't rely on transition buckets. That may have been all on Crean and it just wasn't so apparent before hand because Yogi could get his own shot, unlike JBJ.
IU Women's Tennis has a commitment from a current JR in HS named Somer Henry. She is from Brentwood HS outside Nashville and will be gunning for her third straight individual state championship this coming week WOULD (in a few months at least) Spoiler
