DBL making Gumbo YaYa’s rec is laughable. That place is terrible
I'm sorry it's not cunty enough for you.
Yea it’s the same group and the food isn’t terrible but it’s gotten outrageously expensive
Yes it’s the same people
Eh like I said it’s alright. It used to be better.
Sorry I was wrong, my wife said they weren't. Fuck her
Give me the address and I’ll handle fucking her.
I appreciate good food, regardless of “cuntiness”. YaYa’s is not good food. It’s not even the best restaurant in that strip mall.
You're entitled to your opinion. You didn't even enjoy Mothers so your judgement on NOLA restaurants means very little to me. When I need a recommendation on a tofu restaurant, I'll consult you.
Yeah I just thought YaYas was OK
Orsay remains the area’s top restaurant.
I won't bash anyone that likes Orsay bc the food is good. Just for me personally, if I can't wear shorts and a tshirt without being out of place, it's really just not my type of place. I prefer a paper plate or a basket over fine china too.
You should refrain from making any dining recommendations until your palate has expanded beyond brown foods.
I like plenty of foods with color.
You don't like casual cajun food. A po boy is beneath you.
I used to live in Baton Rouge. Love the food. Did not find YaYas equal to typical LA food but maybe we went on a bad night.
I can't speak for the entire menu. I stick to the gumbo and the poboy and both are very good examples of authenticate NOLA food. The bread is crucial and they make the steps to get the right bread. The rest is easy.
Speaking of trivia, where is best trivia. I used to go every week in Nashville, love me some trivia. Too bad I have no friends yet here
We can be friends.
I'd be down for some trivia for sure.
Oh, and Jorts, we have rye available again now. Within the next couple months I expect we will have a consistently supply.
Also looking like a hatchet-throwing joint may be moving in next door. Distillery, brewery and hatchet throwing ... what could go wrong.
Where is this? I can't drink but I'll throw some axes.
Also did an escape room at one way out. Only 3 of us and didn't make it out but was fun. To expensive though
Meant to ask about escape rooms around here so glad you brought it up. What's the best one to go to?
In between Manifest and Intuition
It’s fun to very fun
Only went to one way out and it was run well. O think the great escape is another well reviewed one. I'd recommend one way out. All of their rooms are linked by a story. I want to go back with more people.
Wife and I were just talking today about getting a group together in a few weeks to do it. I'd much rather do it with friends than randoms. You and wife are more than welcome to meet up with us.
The trivia at Dick's not far from you is always hopping. They're my guilty pleasure for wings.
The trivia at Cruiser's at Lakewood always had a really good crowd, too, until it got shut down.
Edit: Almost went to V's last weekend. Will be trying it this weekend when the wife is back in town.
I too, love the food. I’ve been there several times, hoping for a good experience. I’ve only been underwhelmed. While it might be the “best” Cajun cuisine in Jax, it’s not worth a special trip... unless for nostalgia reasons. Owners are really nice people
Let me know, they didn't throw us in with randoms bc no one else was there but it helps to have more people for sure.
Whose juice are you using? Has the price-point changed? I recall likening it, but recall it being around $80. I love supporting local, but there is a ton of competion in that realm.
This is ours. What you are referring to is the bourbon we sourced. We made our first batch of rye at Koval in Chicago. Aged up there for a year while we received our licenses, then moved it down here to age. We sold through that really quickly The rye we are bottling now is the stuff made at our facility starting in September 2016. Production was slow the first couple of months but then picked up, hence while it will be another couple months until we have a steady supply.
The gin and rye have both received some really nice awards.
Damn this makes me miss trivia out there. Was on a kick where we would go every other thursday. I have to have won over 500 bucks there in trivia money, which is great because the drinks are mad expensive but very good.
I love orsay, but I still think Matthews is the best restaurant in town.
Can’t go wrong with either, however.
Gotcha. I recalled the bourbon being labeled 10 year. Nice to hear production is up & running. I recently finished the your bourbon, so I’m due for another bottle.
I’ve heard your gin is great, but gin is not for me
We have a limited release of our gin aged in chardonnay barrels coming soon. It's delicious.
They are different & both great. Matthew’s is the only place, apart from Salt, that offers a Chef’s tasting menu in NE Florida... Both being slightly more upscale than Orsay
When is this happening? Your regular gin is great and I’d love to grab a bottle of this.
Another couple weeks I believe. When I know I'll post it.
Did any of you ever go to one of Pom's reastaurants? Just a freaking great chef Dude is driving an Uber these days. Hard to believe /coolstory
What restaurants are those?
Haha. Poms. Used to be above Square One in San Marco.
Well, I feel like a dummy. Been in Jax like 4.5 years now and feel like I haven’t really scratched the surface of this city, aside from my neck of the woods out at the beach.
Well, I think the Pom's San Marco closed a few years back but he had opened another place afterwards that has since closed. He was one of the really bright culinary guys in town. Just strange.
Is there any freshwater fishing around here? I'm gonna buy a fishing kayak eventually
Forget freshwater. Kayak fish in the saltwater. This website has awesome info including launch spots.
Looks good. Gonna wait until I move into my house so I have a place to store it.
I used to do it all the time but have not gone out in probably 18 months. Typically, fish Browns Creek or Clapboard Creek off of Heckscher.
I was looking at Craiglist kayaks. Sit on top are beat right?
Yeah for fishing. I have a Hobie Outback which is a pretty nice setup.
All this trivia talk has me out at V pizza tonight
Love their wings
