Where my Pharoah Sanders heads at? Been listening to a lot more Jazz over the last few years...I always feel better during/after I do.
Knew we had a jazz thread here somewhere. Just watched this video and had to share it. 15 years old and the way this kid plays is jaw dropping.
RIP McCoy Tyner. His work with the greats - Coltrane and such (and as the leader of his own band) in the early / mid 60s... idk, to me it's the height of the American art - not just jazz, I mean all American music.
In the past 2'ish weeks I've seen: Butcher Brown Maurice (Mobetta) Brown w/ Isaiah Sharkey, Marcus King, Chelsea Barratz, & Mike (Blaquedynamite) Mitchell and in a few weeks I'm gonna see Glasper then Butcher Brown again (abroad) and then Glasper and Terrace Martin :]
Looking forward to Billy Cobham on tour. Caught Stanley Clarke a min ago, his tabla guy was sick Saw Nate Smith again early last month, think I'm gonna see him again with Immanuel Wilkins in a couple weeks. Also should catch Nicholas Payton again same week. :]]
Now and again (I have developed a weirdo lifestyle where I constantly zip all over to see shows when I think the value is right.) Everything I mentioned will be in SF. I'm also waiting for Glasper to detail his robtober lineups before deciding which of em I want to gun for.
Seeing Glasper, Ghost Note, Butcher Brown, and Lalah Hathaway at the Indy Jazz Fest next month. Much excite.
Love the Butcher Brown dudes. That should be fun. I'll be curious to see what the Ghost Note lineup looks like at that point. (I think things are a bit in flux.) I wouldn't have mentioned it before seeing Ghost Note cited, but if any of you have the chance to see Mono Neon, you must. Absolutely disgusting band. And if you've listened to the studio versions of his material trust me when I say the band (incl Blaque Dynamite) really elevates it.
Tried to make small talk with Mono Neon once before he went on stage. Key word “tried.” Weird dude but great musician
some stuff out recently (like this summer or something) that I'm all about: and (think I may have already crossposted this in the jamband thread already, but whatever):
Thus recently came up on my YouTube while throwing on some music while doing chores. Was excellent. Pretty sure I have this exact Playlist also saved on YouTube
probably his best album though I also really like Smokin’ at the Half Note. Also really like his work with Jimmy Smith too.
Can anyone tell me where I've heard In A Sentimental Mood? Google didn't help but I feel like it's from a rom com. This has been killing me for months.
Here's a more detailed list of movies featuring "In a Sentimental Mood": Malcolm & Marie (2021): The song is prominently featured in the soundtrack. Sharper (2023): The song is included in the soundtrack. The Equalizer 2 (2018): The song is included in the soundtrack. Pieces of a Woman (2020): The song is included in the soundtrack. Luca's Grace (2018): The song is included in the soundtrack.
Yeah I found that but it's not those. It's been recorded by so many artists and it's the opening piano that takes me to somewhere else.
Got in the right state of mind and saw Wynton and Lincoln Center Orchestra last night. Top blown right off.
Not traditional but Béla Fleck has a jazz trio with a Colombian harpist and a Mexican drummer called BEATrio. 2 singles out and the album drops May 16. Touring now.
