Did you install yourself? Wondering how much of a pain in the ass it will be. The lift wasn’t bad but doing it alone kinda sucked trying to get the new coil springs on
A few years ago. It was $1500. Including the gears. It's basically a 10 hour job if IIRC. Absolutely get it done somewhere unless you know what you're doing.
My dad is looking at a 22 Gladiator Mojave. I drove it and am surprised that I don't hate it, he feels the same way. Leaving an F150 and downsizing on purpose (has an Expedition for long road trips). Any reason I should tell him to pump the brakes?
My buddy bought a gladiator this year. Loves it but says: - expensive (assume he means gas) - bed has been super useful and size hasn’t been an issue for him (has zero experience with full size trucks) - annoyed no auto up windows, ventilated seats, 360 cameras, or lane-centering So basically if your pops is car-spoiled with the latest tech and features, he may not like it. If he wants a bullet proof engine (3.6), decent reliability, and a solid medium duty truck with excellent off-road chops, pull the trigger.
I’ve got a kid, two dogs, and need to haul a bunch of shit. Asking here because I know y’all are legitimate off-road people. I do forest service roads, light trails, and snow. Ford Explorer Timberline features legit albeit basic or should I just mom SUV it with a Subaru Ascent? I’d prefer a Grand Cherokee L Overland but I’m not paying that much
Coming from a Ford lover and Subaru hater, choose the Subaru. Many companies are throwing together as you said basic off-roading stuff on their vehicles in the hopes to catch people in a trend. Most of them are barely a notch up from stock. Subarus are proven for light duty offroad work, especially snow, and their horrendous CVTs will save on mileage.
I really want to buy a Jeep this year as a friend of mine was got a new car this year that they loved and I’ve always loved Jeeps. But every time a used Wrangler or other Jeep pops up for sale, I do some back ground research on that particular model and the reviews/data are not good for that brand and model :(
What kind of reviews? I mean if you compare a Wrangler ride quality to like a Grand Cherokee or an Explorer, it doesn't come close to those. Wrangler is about fun. That's it. If you want fun, buy a Wrangler. If you want nice and comfy and all the tech, but something else. But Wranglers hold their value better than any other vehicle for a reason.
This. After a ton of reading I don’t think you could pay me to drive a wrangler/gladiator full time. As a “bonus” vehicle. Bring it on.
Depends on how much you drive imo. Also depends on what Wrangler we're talking about too. There's a huuuuge difference between say a base sport Wrangler with a soft top and 392 Rubicon with sky one touch top.
Oh that’s interesting. It seems all the Jeeps, including wranglers, I look up are rated relatively poorly for reliability. Maybe thats just what’s available in my price range right now. Unfortunately I don’t really live anywhere near somewhere I could use it for fun. I really, really want to move to a place in the mountains by the end of the decade so maybe I’ll just have to hold off until I’m able to do that. Thanks
Just taking the top down and doors off is fun. I live in Florida where it's flat af but we do have some beaches we can take it on. Wranglers are for everyone though. If you like all the creature comforts and super quiet ride, don't get a Wrangler. 2 door Wranglers and the V8 Wrangler are fun as shit to drive though.
Service Shifter came up on the screen, along with every light that can come on the dashboard. Wouldn’t even change into different gears. Anyone ever have this issue?
Last 2 years, maybe? It's so dumb. I love driving Jeeps but I hate people that identify as "Jeep people."
What year did Jeeps start having the pop out windows behind the backseat (like the one pictured below)?
I believe that's only available with the One Touch Sky Top. I think it came out in 2020. Those windows are normally part of the hard top.
Yep, you were right. I really like the way that looks, but disappointed to learn you can’t take the entire top off.
I have the one touch top and love it. It's as open as id ever want it to be and I can do it on the fly up to 60 mph, which is pretty nice in Florida with the random rain showers. This is with the half doors on:
It certainly has plenty of pros. My friend also says it’s a lot quieter than a soft top or the traditional removable hardtop.
It's definitely more quiet than a soft top but I think the hard top is the most quiet, at least from my experience. I highly recommend the one touch though. It's just super convenient for daily use. Of course I say that as someone with a TJ thay sits in the garage with no top and no doors so I have a naked one any time I want to use it.
Haha nope definitely mine. It's a 1998 Sahara TJ. That color combo ran from 1996-1998 and I used to drool over it daily bc I passed the Jeep dealership on my way to school daily. The sales guys wouldn't even come out to me bc I stopped so much to look at it. I'll never ever get rid of that Jeep. It didn't look anything like this when I got it. It's grown over the last dozen + years. First pic is the week I got it.
Had a buddy install the new Borla ATAK catback for me today. Going to pick it up later, but he said “uhh…it’s loud.” Nice.
I really want a Wrangler but I don't need multiple cars and I love my truck. Your Jeeps are nice dblplay1212.
Oh wow, I've seen a few before and after videos and it sounds amazing. I'm sending mine to AEV for the JL370 package here soon, hopefully by end of year, but that Borla kit is at the top of the list for when I get it back. That and the Goose Gear Camp Kitchen. We aren't huge campers but having this in the back for beach days, day trips to the trails, or tailgating would be awesome.
I never had a JK. Iirc they were mostly way underpowered? Was that your issue? I will say it's funny as shit going from my 392 to my TJ. It's like going from a race car to a Flinstones car. One throws you back in your seat on 37s while the other just goes putt putt putt. I still love it though.
Yeahhh so…hurry up. You won’t regret it. I just stomped on it under an overpass and everyone around me slammed on their brakes
It was slightly underpowered and being lifted with mud tires didn't help, 4" with 33" Mickey Thompson MTZ. Was communting to work 45 mins away and had to get something that got better gas mileage. The hills were killing me.
Ahh yea, sounds right. The first couple years of JK were really bad. I think it got better after like 2012 or 2013. The 392 is just a different animal now. I still can't believe they made it.
Regarding my early post, finally got it into the shop and it’s the power steering pump they say, it’s going to cost 1,600
Yea, it was a dooooog before I did. That engine and 3.73 on 35's is gross lol. Pretty sure I went 4.56, been a long time since I did it.

So I've been to the TJ Forum and I can't find an acceptable answer to my issue. I've got a 2006 LJ with 42k miles. I've upgraded and replaced the stereo and speakers, replaced the subwoofer, reloacted the mirrors and finally upgraded the headlights to LED's. The last upgrade started the problems. I replaced the flasher unit to support LED's and that solved my problem with hyperflash but the reduced power load created an issue with the front side marker. It wouldn't light up when the lights were on (bulb was fine) and didn't work when I tried to use the right turn signal. I read while troubleshooting that I should check my hazards to see if I had a bulb out somewhere else in the rear. I hit the hazards and they don't work. I thought maybe the flasher I bought was a cheap Chinese version so I bought an updated flasher from Auto Zone. Once that was installed same issue with the hazards not working. Then I go to see if the flasher made any difference in the blinkers/turn signal and now those aren't functioning at all. It sounds like a fuse but I checked the box behind the glove box and they all look to be intact. Anyone with more Wrangler know how have any ideas?
I'm beyond dumb on that kind of stuff, I just have to have pay a shop to do all of mine. I have a great shop if you need one though lol
All right gentlemen, I'm thinking about trading in my wife's Hyundai Palisade to get her a Jeep Wrangler. What do I need to know? I'd like to keep the budget below 25k. Would I be better off prioritizing lower miles or a newer model? Which of these would you choose? https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...umRecords=25&firstRecord=25&clickType=listing https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...umRecords=25&firstRecord=50&clickType=listing https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...umRecords=25&firstRecord=75&clickType=listing
Tough call, I'd go with the 14 or the 16. I'd avoid the 15 bc they replaced the fenders with flat fenders which normally means they've been beating it up off road and needed more tire clearance. Granted all mods don't mean someone was taking it off road a ton but that specific mod is one you don't see done a lot just for looks so I'd avoid that one bc it could be beaten to shit. If it were me, I'd probably go 2016. It has leather seats (you can add leather seats for like $1500 so not a huge deal) and there's no mods at all. The 2014 has new front and rear bumpers and I don't really like those specific ones.
Is the Jeep your daily driver? The wife and I both work from home so we don't really 'need' two cars, or at least two daily drivers. I have a truck, which has all the storage space our family of five could need and she's always wanted one so we thought now would be a good time for us to get her a 'fun' car. The plan would be to let our 11-year-old drive it when she turns 16 and potentially take it to college in seven years. I'm not in the position to buy new but I also need this to last me a while.
