I think partially because of the times, didn't seem like she had much of a social scene because she was a single divorcee. I think it's a call back to season 1 where Glenn's mom is a single divorcee and nobody wanted to be friends with her. Society was changing but maybe slower in the suburbs.
So is it just a inside joke that Pete brother and father could get some ass..or am I taking crazy pills?
Would rather see don in the office than on the road for the last 3 episodes. What's don going to do when he has his kids?
Re watching. Somehow I totally missed that the first scene with top cop was a dream. Also wtf was with the awkwardness between Pete and Trudys friend?
Also I'm guessing Duck was waiting out Pete and wasn't meeting with anyone up top at McCann. Totally missed the Peggy is at a different firm now.
yeah I thought Pete was going to nail her or make a play for her. Had a thought at lunch. Don and Betty died in the same episode? That was the end of Don Draper when he gave away the car I'm guessing.
One episode left feels bad man. I never want this show to end Pete is like Bodie to me. Hated them both at the start of their respective series, but as bodies death was the hardest of the series for me, I find myself happy that Pete's getting a happy end to his story (at least until he bangs a Kansas farm girl next week)
Few more observations I think it's awesome Trudy and Pete started the show getting married, separated mid-ish series and are reuniting as it finishes. Not surprised, but wanted Don to tell the inn keeper, here's your money, but I didn't take it. Also think it's funny the inn keeper looks so similar to Big Gene, you have to think they did that on purpose. Love that, as far as we can tell, Don and Sally are ending on a good note. I guess we'll see if Don ends up taking care of Bobby and Gene, doubt it....but it's been a theme of the show of him helping younger guys along, on a one off type role. This episodes bellhop, Cecilias kid, taking Glenn back to school and letting him drive. He's like a mini make a wish foundation.
Wait what? Peggy is at a different firm? Thought that was just talking about the past, so I completely missed that, if that's indeed the case. Just watched the last two episodes - totally different feel for me watching 2 episodes ago than a lot of this board. I really enjoyed it. As for this week's, I loved everything about it. Felt so bad for Sally, and then actually felt bad for Betty, which Ididn 't expect. I don't hate her nearly as much as most people apparently do, but she also wasn't the easiest person toroot for. GGlad she went out on a hight note. If you told me at the beginning of the series that I'd be happy that pete would have a happy ending, I'd have punched you in the face. But I trait am happy that he seems to actually have grown and can move on happily.
Could this have been him talking about one of the scenarios in the past? Tough to keep all their damn mergers and whatnot separate
That's how I read it. Seems strange they'd just throw that in there like that, considering how major a move that would be.
He did try to recruit her there a few seasons back (when she was sleeping with him) now that I think about it, so maybe that's the deal. I didn't catch that part of yesterday's episode though.
Guessing that's the case. Read like 5 episode reviews and none mentioned Peggy being gone. Speaking of episode reviews one referenced back to the Conrad Hilton episodes as a comparison to something. I had completely forgotten that storyline. Made me very excited about a full series rematch in a few months down the road
she is not at a new firm "You know i helped you out after that stupid merger! Then you sent Peggy that that Gerald whats his name when she was in need." Come on guys, pay attention here!
I never got the sense Peggy left. They were talking about a job in the past. That's why Duck's trying to convince Pete to do him a solid for what happened in the past. That was the last time we see Betty but I don't think she is dead yet it's just Sally read the letter. We've basically seen the last 70s scenes of all the major characters, except Don, IMO. Isn't the finale rumored to show how they all ended up doing in the present time? I think it's why they didn't show scenes for next week. So sad to see this show go. Next to The Wire it is my favorite.
I was pretty sure they were saying that Peggy used a different headhunter than Duck back when she was looking to leave SCDP.
agree that i don't think betty died in that episode and sally just read the letter early, but I would think betty is dead by the time we start the following episode.
"I always felt like it would be the experience of human life," he says. "And human life has a destination. It doesn't mean Don's (Jon Hamm) gonna die. What I'm looking for, and how I hope to end the show, is like ... It's 2011. Don Draper would be 84 right now. I want to leave the show in a place where you have an idea of what it meant and how it's related to you." Thats Weiner taking back in 2011. He's since come out and said that was never the plan, but could just be saying that to throw people off.
Just to clarify, he lost Peggy to Gerald, who was a head hunter who tried to get her another job after it was apparent that McCann was absorbing SC&P. He was in her apartment a few episodes ago, and the guy told her that her best offer was from McCann, she said she didn't want to go there. But 2 weeks ago was all about her office not being set up at McCann. Pete didn't send Peggy to Duck, that's what he was saying.
Ahh thank you. So ATLEnergyGuy did indeed have the right guy. I just assumed he was talking about an earlier moment in the series.
@MadMen_AMC 3m3 minutes ago From season one to now, relive every Don moment during the #MarathonToTheEndofAnEra tomorrow at 6|5c.
Just watched today. This was my biggest complaint. The Sally scenes had me in the feels, but I agree Betty's letter was so vain and self absorbed. Last thing you ever say to your kid and it's the dress and lipstick you want at your funeral? Cmon.
I'm not gonna fall on a sword for Betty, but you're also talking about a time, from start to finish, where doctors didn't even talk directly to a woman no matter the illness. As a through and through Betty hatter for most of it, she took her fair share or right crosses. As a woman of her looks, ideals, etc she should be so vain, it does with her not fighting through cemo. It also goes with her realizing there's nothing she can do, like most her life, but control her beauty and go out on top. She's what, in her late 40s (?) and is still a dime and knows it.
I think he'll make an appearance in the finale but I don't think more than a few minutes will be focused on him. Give me Don, Roger, and Peggy. And lots of it.
I wish Pete's change of heart - going from always wanting more to being happy with what he has - was more than a one episode storyline. I think what bothered me about the whole Pete/Trudy reunion was that it seemed sudden, with the exception of the one episode where Trudy admitted she was lonely and didn't have friends. The whole job opportunity and Pete's speech to his brother about being happy with what you have seemed rather abrupt. We've known Pete to be an unhappy tryhard for 7 seasons, then something clicks in one episode and he rides off happily ever after into the sunset? I think I'm going to commit to a rewatch next winter. Should be fun to pick up on hints of certain things in earlier episodes, I'm sure I'm forgetting past events that led to what happens.
I think since the episodes can sometimes be a month or so in between of real time might allow for that change of heart over 1-2 episodes. We kind of saw in the previous episodes that Pete was kind of longing for that family he screwed up the first time.
Earlier in the episode they subtly hinted at it. Trudy is putting their daughter to sleep, Pete's in the hallway longingly looking at them and then leaves.
