I would have to think a deal for Morata is close if we are letting Rooney go. That would leave Rashford as the only striker left on the roster.
even if you're bringing in Morata, I think it'd be suicide to start the season with just 2 strikers. ...I realize the irony of this coming from an Arsenal fan.
Letting him go on a free according to reports. Would be worth it just to get his salary off the books imo.
100% agree that we need to sign multiple strikers this summer. I just don't know who it would be. Playing time was one of the big selling points to attract Morata so I don't see us going after any other big name type players.
United is crazy to let Rooney go if Morata and another striker of some decent caliber aren't on their way this week. Despite my desire to see Rooney move on it would be madness by Woodward to let him go without immediate replacements ready. I've seen this story play out before where depth sinks United, this squad won't challenge for anything next season in current form.
Same guy who reported Rooney to Everton is saying that Carrick will be named the new captain and Herrera will be vice-captain.
Really like Morata but £75m for a proven PL goal-scorer is better than £75m for a sub. If true, it also feels good to finally use another club to leverage/disguise getting who we really want. Woody might actually be getting good at this transfer thing.
Best thing about the boy is he scores buckets against minnows. If we had him last campaign, we finish third at least.
I'm fine with Lukaku or Morata. Just need to get it done. Wondering if Lukaku deal could impact Matic.
So I don't fully understand soccer contracts and transfers, but why will a team make a transfer deal with the team above them on the league table? For one of their best players?
The player will want to leave for more money, endorsements, playing better competition etc.. Everton now has 75 million to replace their star man with a handful of other players so it provides them with dollars to add depth and a huge profit from their initial investment and ultimately most mid level teams do not have the financial backing to compete against the big 5-6 I'd say soccer also allows the player with much more control/influence than American sports when it's time to move on.
In this case we didn't need to sale him. Contrary to belief all the money we have spent this far was to try to convince him to stay not buying players with the "Lukaku money". But soccer is a sport where contracts don't matter and Rom wanted to play in the Champions League, he said it from the moment he got to Everton until he left. So Everton are left in the position where they can get £75 million+ Rooney this year, or be assholes and keep him this year and then he leaves for free.
Greatest thing I've ever seen Also, Lukaku was cited and fined by Beverly Hills police for noise violations last night after "repeated warnings"
Lukaku not showing on the squad headed to the US Tour. Perhaps they didn't want to add him the same day they sent Rooney off back to Everton...
My understanding is that Rooney is a part of the Lukaku deal, but not officially because they don't want it to look bad.
Yeah being sold for a young player but also requiring £75 million to get it done isn't exactly a good luck for a club legend It definitely greased the Lukaku deal
The end of an era. It was time, probably even a few years too late, but it's still sad to see the man who made me fall in love with this club finally walk away. I started really following soccer, mainly just Wayne at the time, in his last year with Everton. When he left for United, I followed him. If he had stayed even one more season then I'd probably be a Toffee right now. I wouldn't be a United fan without him and I'm gonna miss him.
Think I disagree. Mata, Martial, Rashford, Lingard, Micki, Pereira, Januzaj Despite Januzaj probably on the way out, that's still pretty good coverage. We have a lot of multifaceted players who can play out there. It would be much lower on my wishlist than a CM or LB, but I suppose if someone like Perisic came on a good price I'd be happy. I really like him
Dude is going to have a massive chip on his shoulder. I understand the logic behind not offering him a contract now though.
