I think the game changed when we had 3rd and 1 from the 45 and tanny threw it up for grabs down the field instead of easily rushing for the 1st down. All negatives after
That play was supposed to be an underneath throw. Bengals covered it perfectly. Instead of waiting for someone to get open or running it himself, Tanny threw a jump ball. Ugh.
What is it about Bills fans that they love talking shit even though their team is just as mediocre as everyone else?
The team is in a really weird state rn just thinking about it I mean I really think the defense has made a tremendous step forward. We have some really nice young talent, especially in the secondary in Howard and Fitzpatrick. McCain has been good despite injury and seems to have taken a step forward. Baker looks like a great pick and probably had the best game of his career yesterday. Raekwon is coming along and Alonso is solid. Quinn and Reshad are very good vets. The DT rotation has played very well. Even Harris was making some plays yesterday...him taking a step forward would be huge. The offense though is just a disaster. The interior OL has been an issue for about a decade now, though by PFF standards Swanson actually played very well yesterday. Really like our tackles though. Seems like our three most dynamic playmakers that can score from anywhere are Drake, Wilson, and Grant but we never seem to give them the ball. Gore has been a pleasant surprise and a nice pickup, but Tannehill continues to make absolutely HORRIBLE turnovers at the worst possible times. Gesicki has been a disappointment thus far if we're being honest and TE remains a non-factor in the offense. Seems as far as the D has taken steps forward the offense has stepped backwards. But honestly outside of slot guys I don't think we have a WR on the roster that really scares anyone. Honestly seems the bottom line is that the team has some promising young talent, especially on D, and has made some good draft picks the last 2-3 years but we aren't going anywhere with Tanny at the helm.
haha. We don't really know because he's soft as shit and is constantly misses games with bumps and bruises. When he actually plays, he doesn't do much
Also interestingly the secondary has been pretty good but we still can be run on. Losing Hayes, prob our best run defender really hurt there. Really need Rekwon to be a lot better against the run, because I don't know that Alonso is ever going to be that strong there (Baker as well is a coverage guy). By PFF standards Minkah can be better in that area too, which is weird bc he's usually very good there. Hopefully they can improve bc that's an area we have needed to improve for a few years now. Saw signs of improvement from Charles Harris but we need more out of him going forward. Wake is still above average but last year and this year he's lost a half step.
Right. And were gonna have to go 0-16 or 1-15 next year if we want Tua at the rate he's going. Nobody is trading that #1 pick. Our d will probably be good enough ro take us out the Tua sweepstakes even if we go full Colts suck for Luck mode and start Fales next year.
and because we renegotiated Tanny's contract, he has a 27 million cap hit next year. What are the odds we kick that can down the road again?
I saw a poster on Finheaven mention that we save $5M next year if we cut Tannehill even with the dead cap hit we'd take. If that's the case, bye.
Correct. Looking at his contract page, he will almost certainly be the QB next year b/c cutting him would cost $13.4mm in dead money. But after that, Tua's year, it drops to $5.5 mm for one year. Not exactly sure how it all works but seems like we would fuck ourselves pretty hard if we cut him after this year...so let's start stockpiling some picks baby
Likely no tunsil. At least our only league average lineman that's available is our RT and on the side Mack plays. It's still a mismatch, but good lord help us if it were James out and Young at RT.
he’s the head coach. he could voice his opinion to upper management if we wanted someone other than tanny. he hand picked cutler because “he knew the offense”. FOH with this excuse making
And the offense just isn't a good scheme IMO. Way too much sideways and behind the LOS garbage to ever be effective against good teams. Fundamentally sound teams eat that shit alive. When you're constantly throwing 3 yards or less, what you're doing is either depending on your guy to make an amazing play constantly or the other team to miss tackles. The Raiders will. Good teams often won't. When do we ever even try attack the intermediate level? It's always either within 3 yards of the LOS or a bomb. Idk, maybe he doesn't trust Tannehill to make good decisions over the middle of the field. I realize the Pats make a living in the short passing game, but it's set up because they also attack the 10-15 yards range so effectively with Gronk and a healthy Edelman.
While true, idk how we can do that with so many OL down. You would think we have to get the ball out quickly since we probably can't protect Tannehill and he's so awful under pressure. But I agree that when the line was healthy we should have gone after the intermediate stuff more...but again we basically have a bunch of slot WRs, Stills who is average, and Parker who doesn't play. Having a decent TE option would really help...
I'm still a lonely voice but I still don't care about changing QBs. I just don't think it helps unless we found an elite level guy who elevates everyone around him. And there's only like 5 of those in the league. So without that being available, what does changing to another mid-level QB really do? Is Tannehill really that much worse than a peak Eli Manning? if you can get one, fine. We know Tannehill wasn't that and we've known that for years. I don't buy that we were still figuring out if he's good or not. He's simply above average. Known it then, know it now. I'm sick of Gase much more. Just wants to blame everyone else for his crappy offenses which have had enough talent to be better. It still has enough talent to be better although the OL has become FSU level bad.
Where is all this offensive talent you speak of? The QB sucks, we have no TE to speak of, we have an offense with all slots WR and Kenny Stills.....Drake is the only person that might worry an opposing DC. Like who on our offense would an opposing DC say...."if we don't stop this guy, he's gonna fuck us up bad"....I would say nobody. Gase is partially at fault for that as well. It's a shitty scheme but imo the players we have on offense outside of maybe Drake and the OTs suck as well. I honestly think Grant and Albert Wilson have proven themselves to be playmakers but we never get them the ball...but best case scenarios those are scat back slot type guys that you can't run an offense through.
Whoa. Didn't say we had crazy talent to be a top offense or fuck up anybody, just enough that we should be getting more out of it than this. Grant, Wilson, Drake all have playmaking ability and barely see the ball. Gesicki has ability. Every touchdown we score feels like an alien sighting.
Gesicki has ability based on what? Practice reports? I mean I'd love to see it but so far he's been a total zero in every game, including the preseason. Would be really nice to get him going but not going to hold my breath
So on one hand you admit there are playmakers we don't get the ball to but then slam the rookie after 5 games who they can't get the ball to. So you're already convinced that's entirely his fault? There's nothing to suggest he isn't talented, which is all I was saying, and that we could be getting more out him. He may not be a pro bowler but there's nothing to suggest he isn't a talented receiving TE. Who knows.
Can’t touch the QB, can’t touch the WRs. Good luck defending that. His injury history also ends up way better
