When they let tua do his thing has looked good. So maybe give him more to work with and not disrupt him on your own
The O didn't even try anything once they went up so I don't even know what to judge other than we definitely need serviceable talent at RB.
This. I see some people on Twitter tripping about the yardage total but that's ignoring the context of the game. Not that Tua beat the world apart but the game didn't call for really giving him a shot at it.
If you can go 4-1 there, we close with the Chiefs, the Patriots, the Raiders and the Bills, 2-2 from those 4 should be doable so that puts you at 10-6 and likely a playoff spot right?
Congrats on the win today, fellas. Once Tua plays a few more games and things start to slow down for him, the future is very bright
I just read Omar Kelly’s timeline.... what a miserable human being. The guy can’t find joy in anything
Not even looking but I’m going to take a stab that they are watching the highlights of the 1st play and looking at the stat line to say he sucked. let’s be honest though. Was Tua good yesterday? Not at all. It was a mediocre at best debut. The first play was a disaster and the 2nd drive the butterflies were clearly getting to him. After that he settled down quite a bit and was fine. the problem was that he spent 10 straight game minutes on the bench and in that time the fins scored 14 points and started another drive on the goal line. He walked into the half with a 28-10 lead over a team that came in as a heavy favorite and has a devastating DLine. The coaching staff shut the offense down in the 2nd half like the Dave Wandstedt years because the defense was dominant. They coached the 2nd half of that game focused entirely on bleeding out the clock to get the win instead of letting Tua take chances. Nothing wrong with it. his stat line looks terrible but they took they game they had in front of them. The only way the Dolphins were losing yesterday is if they turned the ball over and gave the rams a short field. They sacrificed the debut of Tua to get a W and I’m completely fine with it.
These are related. You can't say good or bad. He was just....there. I do have a big problem with the coaching philosophy though (this isn't unique to Dolphins. It's a football plague). You have to play and not be scared. We were one of the worst FG attempts I've seen away from it being a one score game in the 4th in a game that had no reason to be within a score. UCF plays this way...they don't let up. And yes that can come with some mistakes or drives of 45 seconds but it comes with more points. If a defense is playing well, the game is well over and backups are in the 4th. Same as parking the bus in soccer up a goal for an entire second half. Same as staying back in hockey only up a goal for an entire 3rd. I hate it.
I had more an issue with them seeming to soften up the defense and letting the Rams sink and dunk their way down the field than I do with the offense closing up with a rookie QB. We absolutely suffocated the Rams passing game in the first half and then we called off the dogs. No reason to do that so early.
agree 100%. You can't judge tua off the statline. They put the offense in bubble wrap the entire 2nd half. I think of Fitz was playing, they would have stayed aggressive on offense.
They were playing a top defense yesterday. Was the play calling good, no. But I hope that had to do with playing the Rams. Hopefully in the coming weeks they open it up against some weaker teams and allow Tua to show his ability.
They were up 28-7 without having to do shit on offense. The only way the Rams were coming back is if they started turning it over. In an ideal world, you step on your opponents throat. But I'm fine going super conservative with a rookie in his 1st start.
Yeah we were up 28-7 vs a team with the most second half points in the league. Going conservative may not have been the popular move but it was the right move
Or....if they make a FG it's a one score game and kicking off instead of what was essentially a midfield turnover. The 3 and outs were almost as damaging.
True (the Williams drop on 3rd I don't think gets the 1st down...but the 1st down drop would have set up 2nd and short). But even those throws were all super-safe ones and overlying on Gaskin to keep the offense moving was.....not great. I'm not saying air it out, but should have involved more of the offense to keep it moving.
I think it's funny that Tua is getting slammed for his first start not being very good and the same people mostly hyped Burrows first career start where he had a sub 5 YPA.
