If two previous owners said baseball can't work in sfl without a stadium instead of getting someone with real money, that could properly get a stadium deal done, baseball gave Loria another team to fuck over. So after years of not spending while pocketing hundreds of millions of dollars (which I'm sure you knew about since you know soooo much about this franchise) Loria, his deadbeat stepson and Selig scammed some politicians into making sfl pay for a new stadium in order to keep baseball here and stop slashing payroll. They got the stadium and regardless of your stupid claims people didn't show up, we did the first year; however Loria couldn't get halfway through the season before he started his same ole bs. Now instead of bringing in an owner that would stop just trying to make money while fucking over the sfl fanbase they gave the team to Jeter and his group who couldn't afford the inflated price tag Loria and MLB wanted the team to sell for. Stop making this about fans not showing. The fans didn't make Samson sign the worst TV contract in MLB. The fans didn't stop Samson and Loria from making money on stadium naming rights. If this franchise was just treading water people wouldn't have been lining up to try and buy it. Baseball obviously can succeed here it's the 8th largest metropolis in the US not fucking Milwaukee or Jacksonville so stop acting like this franchise has to be run like its in no mans land. 1. They cried for a stadium thinking that would fix the fan support problem. They built it and it changed nothing. There was a bump in year 1 but attendance has been 27th or lower every year since. 2. It's hard to negotiate a good TV contract when ratings are bottom 5 in the league. 3. Miami being the 8th biggest market doesn't mean a sport will work there. The #2 market in the country went without football for 20+ years bc it had failed twice at it already.

Several other teams are in the same spot. It'll increase when they sign a new deal in 2020 but it's not going to be super high bc the ratings are poor.

You are aware that the article you posted about rating in 2011 being down mentioned four teams that were getting less viewers than the Marlins and all four make more money on TV then the Marlins do including the Nationals who signed their deal during the same period as the Marlins, but because they weren't run by asshats they didn't fuck themselves out of being able to renegotiate for more Tv money. Again the Marlins are in one of the largest metropolis in the US and have one of the largest TV markets in baseball. The TV contract won't be based on just how many people are currently watching but on their market reach which is why the Astros who were downright awful and couldn't get people to come to games or watch on TV are make 3/4 times as much as the Marlins. The TV money they expect to get in three years is why Loria and MLB inflated the price of the team and why Jeter/Sherman claim they are rebuilding now and wanted players back that will be ready in three years when they can and will spend in 2020.
