What's with the hate for Eovaldi? Do you hate all players that get traded? Did he say bad shit as he left? Just seems odd. I genuinely root for Phelps/Cano/almost all former Yankees to do well. You guys want Eovaldi to burn. I don't get it.

Yankees’ trade for Eovaldi looks foolish as Marlins tee off

MIAMI — If it dropped any lower, Nathan Eovaldi’s chin would have brushed the Marlins Park grass as he made the walk of shame off the mound in the first inning of an embarrassing performance against his former team.

By the time Eovaldi reached the Yankees dugout, first base coach Tony Pena was at the bottom of the steps to offer a pat on the back as Eovaldi disappeared into the tunnel after failing to get out of the opening frame.

Much was made of David Phelps and Eovaldi facing the teams that dealt them for each other last December, but there was nothing riveting about it.

“It’s interesting, I have never been part of something like this,’’ Joe Girardi said before his starter was shelled for eight runs and got only two outs of a 12-2 loss that was witnessed by 33,083. “I think both managers are probably worried that the other guy is trying to show too much and proved you shouldn’t have traded me.’’

Watching from the Marlins dugout, Dan Jennings — who, as the Marlins’ GM last December, dealt Garrett Jones, Domingo German and Eovaldi to the Yankees for Martin Prado and Phelps — had to be relieved Eovaldi was a former Marlin.

Brian Cashman, who was at the game with his son Teddy, could only take the beating with Eovaldi, whose power arm and age (25) seduced the Yankees’ GM and scouts who put more stock in potential than a career 15-35 mark in parts of four big league seasons.

“His stuff doesn’t play out like it should,’’ an NL scout said of Eovaldi, when asked to evaluate the deal.

In a season-low two-thirds of an inning, Eovaldi allowed eight runs and nine hits. While the fastball was clocked as high as 99 mph, Eovaldi didn’t register a strikeout. He is 5-2 with an obese 5.12 ERA in 13 starts.

Eovaldi was hurt by Didi Gregorius bobbling Christian Yelich’s grounder with one out and one on, and several of the Marlins’ opening-inning hits were more well-placed than scorched. Still, the Marlins put eight straight hits on Eovaldi, who was mercifully lifted after Derek Dietrich’s double scored Dee Gordon from first.

The Yankees’ fifth loss in six games on a lost road trip that started in Baltimore kept them one length back of the AL East-leading Rays, who were beaten by the Nationals. The Yankees and Marlins open a two-game series in The Bronx Wednesday night that might require amphetamines to watch.

Since he worked with an 8-0 lead after one inning, it was hard to judge Phelps’ outing. But all he needed to better Eovaldi was get three outs, and he did that in order in the opening frame.

In seven innings, Phelps allowed two runs and six hits. He is 4-3.

Chris Martin replaced Chris Capuano with two on in the fifth inning and watched Giancarlo Stanton hit a flat breaking ball off the facing of the second deck in right field for his MLB-leading 24th homer and an 11-0 bulge.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, the last Yankees game that was highlighted by two starters who were traded for each other and played for the former team the year before was July 22, 1993, when Jim Abbott beat the Angels and Russ Springer at Yankee Stadium.

There was no denying how bad Eovaldi was, but the Yankees’ bats continued to snooze. In the six-game stretch which has produced five losses, the Yankees have scored 19 runs (3.17 per game). By the time they dented the plate Tuesday in the sixth inning, it merely cut the deficit to 11-1.

That double play, damn. Dee's arm strength is unreal, nice to have a former SS there.

Funny how this sports news cycle is dead so everyone is talking about the Stanton injury and how it effects the Marlins

We sucked before the injury, now we suck even more.

@GlennGeffner: Yelich hadn't had more than 2 hits in a game in 2015 before going 4-for-4 today with all 4 hits against LHP. Had been 8-for-52 (.154) vs. LH

For sure the injury should be talked about. But, I've heard entire segments multiple times today on ESPN radio about how the Marlins as a team will be effected/how the Marlins are doing.

A breakdown of the Marlins as a team does not belong on national radio airwaves.

It should be a 2 minute blurb about how well Stanton has been playing and how this is an unfortunate injury.
