He is already our highest paid player, and they did not want to pay him the 7+ mill he won in arbitration. Id much prefer them keep uggla and trade ross but ross' salary is a lot less

Rodriguez June 4th, 2010 | 5:48 PM That’s what Eric Seidman at Baseball Prospectus suggests. Seidman broke down the ripple effects of a Mike Stanton promotion. He concluded the Marlins’ best bet from a developmental standpoint is to trade Ross, leaving Stanton, Cameron Maybin and Chris Coghlan to man the outfield. It would seem either Maybin, Coghlan or Brett Carroll is headed out upon Stanton’s arrival, which could come sometime during the current nine-game road trip that began Friday in New York. Seidman points out that Maybin and Coghlan both need major league experience. Sending one or both of them back to Triple-A would be short-sighted because the Marlins need to develop players to win year in and year out. The other route is to demote Carroll and somehow try to get Maybin and Coghlan enough at-bats. That kind of plan rarely works. One guys ends up getting hot and garnering the bulk of the playing time. That’s fine in the short-term, but if the Marlins feel like Maybin and Coghlan both are key cogs in the years to come, they’d be doing them a disservice by not playing them up here. So what about Seidman’s Ross scenario? It’s not a given Ross is back next season considering his escalating salary. Problem there is you know what you’re getting with Ross. Stanton is a wild card, and even Coghlan and Maybin still are trying to find their way. The aforementioned trio are bound to have their share of peaks and valleys. Developmentally, the Marlins should play all three at the major league level and ride out the ups and downs until they figure it out or the organization decides to go in another direction. That would signal greater emphasis on 2011 and beyond. How would that sit with a Marlins fan base told this team was good enough to earn a postseason berth in 2010?
