Re: **OFFICIAL: Florida Marlins Thread: Cameron Maybin is the Black Mickey Mantle** Mike Stanton is not in the lineup for Double-A Jacksonville on Sunday according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro, further fueling speculation that he will be called up on Monday. Stanton is likely to meet the team in New York on Sunday and then travel with them to Philadelphia. He should be in the order, making his major league debut, on Tuesday against Kyle Kendrick. Stanton's mammoth power is well known, as he's posted a line of .311/.411/.726 with 21 home runs in just 52 games at Double-A, but he is a bit strikeout prone. Don't be surprised if his first few weeks in the majors are characterized by a lot of strikeouts, punctuated by a few highlight-reel homers. Source: Joe Frisaro on Twitter
Re: **OFFICIAL: Florida Marlins Thread: Cameron Maybin is the Black Mickey Mantl If true Tuesday will be fun watching Stanton and Strasbugs debuts

Re: **OFFICIAL: Florida Marlins Thread: Cameron Maybin is the Black Mickey Mantle** Marlins Promote Mike Stanton; DFA Mike Lamb By Steve Adams [June 6 at 4:00pm CST] 4:00pm: Rodriguez tweets that the Marlins will designate veteran infielder Mike Lamb for assignment to make room for Stanton. Lamb's DFA is unsurprising, as the 34-year-old posted a line of just .208/.269/.250 through 26 plate appearances. 3:39pm: Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald tweets that Stanton will join the Marlins for the series opener in Philadelphia on Tuesday this week. 1:46pm: MLB.com's Joe Frisaro echoes (via Twitter) that Stanton is not in the lineup and says that there is a report out that he's been called up by the Marlins. 1:42pm: Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel reports that Marlins top prospect Mike Stanton is not in the lineup for Double-A Jacksonville this afternoon. As Rodriguez cautions, it's possible that Stanton is just receiving a scheduled day off, however this news certainly meshes with the previous reports and speculation that Stanton may be on his way to Miami to continue his 2010 reign of terror in the National League East. The 20-year-old righty slugger has shown tremendous improvement over last year and absolutely annihilated Double-A so far this season. His .311 batting average entering Sunday matches his on-base percentage from Jacksonville in 2009; his .441 OBP and .726 slugging percentage for the season are also each well over 100 points higher than his marks from '09. To date, he's mashed 21 home runs and walked 44 times in 238 plate appearances, versus 53 strikeouts. Heading into the season, Baseball America ranked Stanton as the game's third-best prospect, behind only Jason Heyward and Stephen Strasburg.

Re: **OFFICIAL: Florida Marlins Thread: Cameron Maybin is the Black Mickey Mantle** marlins first pick tonight Christian Yelich Position: 1B School: Westlake HS State: CA Height: 6’4’’ Weight: 190 Bats: L Throws: R Birth Date: 12/5/91 Seiler Rating: 1C2 Commitment: Miami Christian Yelich is a promising first baseman from Westlake High School in Westlake Village, California, a town just outside of Thousand Oaks. Yelich entered the draft season as a solid top ten rounds prospect, but the scouting community figured that he would be better off going to college, where he could develop his tools and become a top prospect three years from now. However, he’s taken a huge step forward this spring, and he’s now looking like the top overall first base prospect available in the draft. A left-handed hitter, he has all the tools to become a first-division starter at first base at the next level, and even though he’s not going to be a left-handed hitting Albert Pujols, there’s plenty of reasons to believe that he’ll be a successful Major League player. At the plate, he features an above-average hit tool and solid-average raw power, and he could be the type of player that hits .300 with 15-20 home run power every year. He’s flashed a little more raw power than that at times, but the consensus is that he will settle into that range, as his swing isn’t geared for power, but more for doubles in the gaps. Interestingly enough, he’s also a solid-average runner with good overall athleticism, and while he could become a plus defender at first, a below-average arm limits him to either first base or left field in the pros, with first base being the more likely destination. Being a projectable bat in a class lacking them, he could easily go somewhere in the top 50 picks, but he fits better for talent in the second or third round, where he should be signable away from his Miami commitment. Christian Yelich, 1b Westlake HS, Westlake Village Yelich first gained widespread scouting attention in the summer of 2008, when he put on an eye-opening batting practice display with wood bats at a Major League Scouting Bureau showcase at the Urban Youth Academy in Compton, Calif. Bryce Harper overshadowed Yelich that evening, driving several balls off the batter's eye or into the parking lot, but Yelics held his own and has produced other highlights since then, such as the long, opposite-field homer he hit in 2009 off Tyler Skaggs, an Angels supplemental first-rounder last year. Tall (6-foot-3), angular and projectable and possessing a sweet lefthanded swing, Yelich is far more athletic than the usual lumbering first-base prospect, with above-average speed. He consistently runs a 6.75-second 60-yard dash in showcase events, and shows both range and a nifty glove around the bag. That kind of athleticism usually signals a position change, but Yelich has a below-average throwing arm that limits him to first. A Miami recruit, Yelich does not project to have the profile power organizations prefer in a first baseman, but he should develop into an above-average hitter with fringe-average power, along the lines of a James Loney or Casey Kotchman.

Re: **OFFICIAL: Florida Marlins Thread: Cameron Maybin is the Black Mickey Mantle** having a hard time picturing this I was against so much public money going to a baseball stadium. But now that it's coming, it's going to be interesting how it takes shape. And you've got to love this idea announced Thursday of two huge, saltwater aquariums used as the backstop behind home plate. This is about as close as we've come to recreating Flipper at one end zone of the Orange Bowl during early Dolphins games. Can a dolphin jumping in the outfield after home runs be far behind? (Imagine the PETA protests over that). "Among the most unique features of the New Marlins Ballpark will be the twin Custom Saltwater Aquariums that will flank both sides of home plate,'' the Marlins press release said. "These one-of-kind aquarium exhibits will provide baseball fans with a firsthand glimpse of the fish and coral reef ecosystems that are synonymous with South Florida." The releease continues: "The aquariums will be built on each side of home plate and will be been positioned to prevent any disruption to players on the field. The aquarium to the right of home plate (when looking from the pitcher’s mound) measures an impressive 34 feet long, 36 inches high and holds over 600 gallons of seawater, while the aquarium to the left, will be 24 feet in length, holding 450 gallons of water. "Each aquarium will be constructed using a durable fiberglass structure; while crystal-clear acrylic panels 1.5 inches thick will be used for the impressive viewing windows that run the entire length of the aquariums. "To safeguard the exhibits from unexpected impacts, Lexan - the material used in bullet proof windows - will be installed in front and in back of the acrylic panels to protect the aquarium from foul balls, errant pitches or any other unexpected contact."
