New ownership gets a sniff that a guy may be a star and they throw him automatically to the top of the heap. They need to be a little more patient with their young talent IMO Garbrandt gets a title shot as the #8 guy (this one worked out) Yair Rodriguez gets fed to Frankie Edgar Kevin Lee gets a shot at the interim belt as the #7 guy Ngannou will probably be next.
Are we really going to attack the UFC for making exciting fights? Boxing literally coddles garbage fighters all the time for big pay days.
Boxing lets fighters get to 20-0 by fighting bums. I don't think asking a UFC fighter to fight his weight up the division is near the same thing. Start at #10 and work your way up. Jumping from 8 to a title shot is a joke. If anything, that's coddling the fighter. Make him earn the title shot.
Yea, I think its somewhere in between. There are plenty of exciting fights to make (and they are making a lot of them) without throwing an up-and-comer in their too soon. Now that the UFC has no Ronda, no Jon Jones, no Brock Lesnar, and a McGregor with no incentive to take a real fight I just think they should be more strategic about how they build the next superstar. There's not a name on the roster other than Conor that is selling more than a million PPV buys.
It was one of the few fights they could make for Ferguson because who knows with Khabib, Nate will only fight for a huge payday, and Gaethje/Alvarez were committed to TUF. It was either a rematch against Barboza or a fight against Lee. But if Ferguson wasn't doing post fight commentary on FS1 for the Lee/Chiesa fight, I don't think UFC makes this fight just yet.
The UFC has to make fights happen. Their fans destroy them if they string along one dud card after the other.
Would love to see the winner of Gaethje/Alvarez fight the winner of Ferguson/Lee for a title shot eliminator against Conor. Ferguson could cause real problems for Conor.
Good point, Conor's weakness is his cardio and he's been exposed twice now... cardio is Ferguson's strength
Catching up on the fights from last weekend and holy fuck this Dy guy can take a beating. Jesus. How was he not cut up worse from that first round?
And then he kicks the other dude square in the coin purse in round three. Dropped him like a sack of potatoes.
Listening to Schaub break down Ferguson/Lee and talking about fighting in Vegas after such a tragedy less than a week prior. That’s got to be tough. And I also think Conor would have major problems with Ferguson.
Feel like people have said that about his last 4 opponents and other when he gassed vs Diaz, he beat them pretty handily.
How much are UFC tickets usually? Anyone know, I am talking cheap seats. For sure trying to go to 218, tickets go on sale next week. Trying to get a head count of friends of minw who want to go but no one will commit without knowing the ticket prices and I can't seem to find how much they are anywhere
Very versatile, but I think his stand up is overrated. With that said he's very good on the ground, which is where he would have to take it to beat McGregor. Or weather the storm until McGregor wears down. But if Ferguson got worked on the feet by Lando Vannata then I think McGregor would be too much for him.
And McGregor's power is other worldly. Ferguson isn't going to be able to eat shots like he does from Connor he'll go to sleep.
Yeah, Ferguson eats some shots and does have a good chin. But he can't stand in front of Conor and take those punches. Ferguson is super unorthodox and hard to gameplan for.
I'm going too, I hope to not spend more than 300, which looks to be the minimum to get in the doors. Spent 150 for UFC 91 in Vegas, this will be my 2nd paperview card.
