Apparently they DID NOT test an old sample of Dillashaw's. That was an internet rumor that gained traction, and that Cody went ballistic about. The only sample of Dillashaw's that tested positive for EPO was the most recent fight. They are talking about potentially testing some old samples, but as of now they have not done that.
Just saw this recently with the recent Herb Dean and Masvidal interviews on Rogan. One of the arguments that the Askren-Lawler fight was a good stoppage is that even if Robbie came back and seemed ok, he was in fact out for a second, and his arm fell in an unnatural way and that's all that is needed to end a fight. So check this out from when Robbie was punching Askren. It looks very much to me like Askren may be out for a second. He gets punched, his right arm falls limp to the canvas and does not move, and his head falls to the canvas. He gets punched again with a more glancing blow off of his glove and it appears to maybe bring him back, and he covers up with his hand. So, if Robbie being out for half a second was a legit reason to stop the fight in order to protect Robbie from injury, doesn't the same hold true here? Should the fight have been stopped at this point, even if Askren was able to immediately recover? People said it made no sense that Robbie would just let his arm fall like it did unless he was unconscious. So what sense does it make for Askren to let his arm fall the way he is here considering the position he is in, unless he lost consciousness?
Can we please keep talking about the askren lawler fight? I have a feeling we are on the verge of a breakthrough!
Agreed. It's as much a reach as the Robbie's arm falling limp to the ground, isn't it?? When Robbie lands that first punch, explain to me what Askren is doing there. His arm/hand fall to the mat. He's not covering up, not defending, not improving his position. A guy is punching him in the face, in that position, and he's just chilling? And when that second glancing punch lands, he decides, oh, I better protect my face and head with my hand now? I dunno, it seems like he was out for a second there. And Herb even goes to step in to stop the fight, but when Askren comes back he starts actually defending again, and Herb stops. So Herb saw it too. He just gave Askren more opportunity to prove he was ok than he did Robbie, I think.
There’s a clear difference between your arm going limp in regular time while being choked vs an arm appearing to go limp from some ground and pound in super slow motion. I wouldn’t have argued if Herb stopped the fight while Lawler was destroying him. But just like anybody else who sells a shit ton of tickets, Askren is allowed that extra second or two to survive a beating. That’s just a fact. But they’ll never give anybody an extra second who appears to be choked out. And that’s exactly what happened to Lawler.
Even if in that extra second he gives a thumbs up? Looking back at it, it's either silly that it was stopped, or if that was a good stoppage, then it's silly it wasn't stopped when Askren went limp and was unable to defend himself from getting punched in the face for half a second. In fact, Herb said the exact opposite of what you are saying. Choking someone out is relatively safe. If anything you DO give someone a little extra benefit if they are being choked. If they are being punched in the face, that's when you don't want them taking that extra shot, those are the kinds of things that hurt fighters. Not being choked out for an extra second. Askren sold a shit ton of tickets??? It was his first fight in the UFC and he was the 10th of 12 fights on that card.
Herb talked about the damage a bulldog choke can do. Look at the YouTube views for Askren. Those are related to ticket sales. He’s had one fight, but obviously he’s a gigantic draw and a huge name already.
He did talk about the bulldog choke, and I agree with what he said, but he also talked about saving guys from taking damage from punches, right? Part of the reason there are that many views is because the fight was controversial. Lots of people watching and re-watching, even today, to see what happened. I'll admit, I'll tune in because I want to see him get his face rearranged. He's the most unlikable fighter I've ever seen in the UFC. He's a gigantic try-hard douchebag. Does anyone actually like him??
Not just videos of the fight, just any Askren video period. He moves the needle. I love the guy because I know he’s just fucking with people, and he’s hilarious. I think he’s a legit good dude.
ah, gotcha. I know he has a bit of a cult following in the wrestling community, and for good reason. He's hilarious? Maybe I just don't get him, but he seems like a huge phony. Bisping, Chale Sonnen, even Connor, would hype a fight by being a dick and talking shit and trying to get under people's skin. Askren does it in a way that, for me, comes off like a goofball imitating what they've seen others do. And maybe Masvidal is playing a long game here, but the way he describes Askren is pretty accurate.
Wait, people think Askren is funny? He was for the first fifteen minutes talking shit but he is pretty corny now. Its old and not original at all. It’s the same “boom roasted” bullshit over and over. Lawler walking through his face and basically KO’ing him really set him back in my eyes. I hope Masvidal kills him.
Before I knew much about him I kinda liked how he was needling and heckling Dana on social media. Dana is an easy guy to dislike, and Askren, positioning himself opposite Dana made Askren a likable figure, plus he's obviously an amazing wrestler. Then you actually hear him talk, and it's like what the fuck, are you 12 years old? He makes me like Dana. Askren is so fucking cringy, and it's so obvious how hard he is trying. Again, maybe I'm just old and I don't get it. It's the same way I feel when I hear Jenna Marbles, like, honestly, people listen to this, and like it and think it's funny and entertaining??? Askren is the Jenna Marbles of MMA.
It's not a hard concept. He's playing the heel. People are going to tune in because they want to see his face beat in and then there's people that love him because of it. He's a hyped newcomer, he's going to draw big time.
Overeem looked good. Was landing a lot of those knees. I am really impressed with how he has come back from having his head knocked into another dimension by Ngannou
I dont think I've seen anyone scared in the octagon since Brock got punched. That guy walked in scared vs Hardy tonight. Was he just a punching bag they hired to get Hardy a win?
Not sure if this is hinting at Joshua-Miocic or Zuffa Boxing, but I hope the latter if it has to be one. I have zero desire to see UFC guys get their faces smashed in a boxing ring.
good for Miococ, this is what he's been waiting for. But I'm not sure this is the fight Cormier was looking to end his career with
These cards are terrible on espn+. Prelims used to be nice but now they suck. Really don’t need to show up until co main.
