according to this, they get paid peanuts from Reebok Under the new reebok pay structure, athletes with three or fewer fights in the UFC will receive a Reebok sponsorship stipend of $3,500 per fight. Athletes with four or five Octagon fights will earn $5,000. Previously, both of those categories were encompassed under one sponsorship tier, which paid out $2,500 in Reebok earnings per fight. I know Brendan Schaub has railed on the UFC for this, saying often fighters would make as much or more than their purse in endorsement deals. And now they are making a couple grand. I know it's been an issue for as long as the Reebok deal has been in place, I just can't believe it hasn't changed yet
Cowboy was estimated to bring in $8-10 million last night. Conor was way above that. The UFC only reports the base pay to the commission and doesn't report an extras (ex PPV points, bonuses, backroom bonuses, etc) Greg Jackson said his fighters would pay a 10% flat fee but he wouldn't collect it if they weren't making shit.
I don't see them risking the Conor vs Khabib payday. If Conor lost to Jorge, that's a lot of money lost.
i think conor knows he’s a 170 guy if khabib happens it’s just for the loot conor is smart and knows he doesn’t have what it takes to beat khabib when cucuy beats khabib that’ll shake things up anyway
Connor is definitely top 10 at 170, but not championship caliber imo... 155 is where he needs to be if he wants a belt.
if this is gonna lead to a “his power doesn’t carry over to 170” argument then it’s wrong is he as powerful? probably not, but he has plenty to KO at 170 and precision to rely on as well
Conor getting an Interim Title shot would drive mma fans insane. Dana would prob receive bomb threats. Do it.
Explains why he was so cool last night. It was kinda cute how "aww shucks, got my ass beat" he was in his interview
Wrong. Conor very well may get his ass beat again but it's the biggest spectacle the sport can produce right now. It's the only mega fight they have available. Hype it up and lets go.
You don't think Jorge, being the biggest name in 2019, fighting a resurgent Conor, the biggest name in MMA is a mega fight?? The main selling point for Conor-Khabib is the bullshit that happened after the fight. If none of that happened, people would remember that Conor got dominated and rag dolled, and no one would want to see that again. I think they can sell Conor-Jorge better than Conor-Khabib. The only issue is that it's not for a belt. Buuuuut wait! Jorge does have a belt! Sort of. They've run with this idea that Jorge doesn't give a fuck about belts and wants to fight the guys he thinks are the best fighters. That's not a difficult story line to continue and expand on and include Conor.
Connor needs to fight Jorge. If he wins that they can sell him as a threat to Khabib even though he's not.
Odds on this ever happening, roughly 4 billion to 1 Bob Arum proposes two-fight deal between Terence Crawford and UFC star Conor McGregor https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_...deal-terence-crawford-ufc-star-conor-mcgregor
isn’t this the final year of that deal? maybe i’m in the minority but i don’t think they re-up with them
With UFC getting a cut of all the merchandise and all the other ways the execs are getting paid I just don't see them not having another deal in place. Maybe not Reebok but it's not like Dana company have a track record of putting the fighters first.
yea I’m not saying there isn’t another deal coming but I don’t think he can get away with fucking the fighters again. There’s more competition for the ufc now too with the rise of Bellator and One. Also, Reebok? You’ve got an espn deal now, go get a better deal with Nike or Adidas. Then allow the fighter to sell space on their shorts and whatnot.
Is Chiesa the fella who lost to the guy who he attacked on stage for talking about his momma? I tried very hard to find a less confusing way to phrase that but words fail me right now.
Always reminded me of this Sun Kil Moon song “I don’t care what you say about me but don’t you say a bad word about my motherrrrrrr” that song speaks to me man
