Cruz is 35 and hasn't fought in 3.5 years. Aldo has held the title more recently than Ctuz has fought.
Aldo lost his last two fights, four of his last six, and his only fight in the division. And looked like death trying to make weight. Cruz lost one fight this decade. He's a better candidate than Aldo, but not the most deserving obviously. But they desperately need some drawing power in the division, so here we are.
Lol at "he's lost 1 fight this decade" when he's had 4 fights in 9 years. Hasn't fought in 3.5 years. Jose hasn't looked good his last 2 fights (not worried about 2 losses to Max bc its Max) but I'll take that over a 35 yr old that hasn't fought in 3.5 years. Again, Aldo has been champion more recently that Cruz has even fought. Saying Cruz is better based on what he looked like in 2016 is dumb.
Let me say this another way. They both are undeserving. But both have name recognition. Between the two, I'll take the guy who has lost once in his past 13 fights. Do you think every fighter is Angela Hill? We can only judge Cruz on his past fights. He's had a string of injuries, but before that was a buzzsaw. Aldo is quickly declining, is 2-4 in his last six, and had no business getting a title shot. Save all your qualifiers. Your old dude sucks worse than my old dude. As I said in my initial post, this shot should absolutely be going to Yan or Sterling. But if you have to pick one between Aldo and Cruz, Cruz is more deserving. Edit to include this: he's also beat Demetrius Johnson, Benavidez (twice), and Dillashaw (a previous title contender), during this run. That's the cream of the crop of this division. Aldo lost a decision to Moraes, and that's it, in this division.
Yes, Cruz used to be good. But he's fought 4 times since 2011. Nothing since 2016. He last fought on an event headlined by Rowdy Rousey, who has been in WWE for 2 years now. I can't say he's more deserving than a guy that's actually been fighting this entire time, regardless of 2 losses.
McGregor fought once in 4 years before the Cowboy fight, and lost. By this rationale, anybody in his division that's fought actively, is more deserving than him. A good comparison is Edson Barboza. Lost 4 of his last 5, and is 2-4 since the Connor/Alvarez fight. Is Edson Barboza more deserving of a title shot than Connor McGregor? And if not, why? And why do you choose such weird hills to die on? Who gives a fuck about Aldo or Cruz.
Comparing Cruz to the biggest draw in the history of the sport? Yikes. You're the one dying on a hill. You're dying over a 35 yr old that hasn't fought since Trump became POTUS..
You're great at this, and I know you would never bend the knee. I'm done, but if that's what you took out of this conversation, that I'm comparing Cruz to McGregor, then that's on you.
Bringing up McGregor to defend your Cruz argument is laughable. That's on you. Cruz getting a title shot after not fighting for 3.5 year is a joke and worse than Aldo getting a shot.
Let's discuss the actual fight... I'm interested to see how Henry handles Cruz movement. The only person that has is Cody and it's probably from training with Uriah and TJ for their fights against Cruz a million times. I also realized when I re-watched Cruz/Garbrandt that it was a lot closer than I seemed to remember. That was the last fight Cody's chin held up.
also using aldo losing his only fight in the division as an argument is terrible when anyone who watched that fight knows aldo won
Dana was 100% convinced he was invincible because of being a Trump buddy. Iger probably called UFC and said wtf are you doing?

Fudd you a boxing fan at all? I ask because I’ve been watching Lomachenko highlights for the last two hours.
Fan, yes. Big fan. Knowledgeable? No. Just recently went down a many hour long rabbit hole of heavyweight fights from Sonny Liston to pretty much the present. I know Lomachenko is a fucking beast, about to watch some fights of his now. I think my favorite boxing storyline is a fat, old George Foreman reclaiming the title at near 50. He was terrifying when he was young. It was shocking to see because I really only knew this George Foreman until recently:
The fuck is wrong with Tony Ferguson. That guy is still trying to make weight by Friday morning......for a fight that isn't happening. He's on a different planet.
This PPV was a week after the Griffin/Bonnar TUF Finale. Those 2 events are what got the UFC ascending.
