Maybe. Harris should have tried to roll or something, he was just gassed. But Overeem took way more damage in the 1st than Harris did in the 2nd.
He had a hand up defending himself. Overeem took way more damage in the 1st. He was eating bombs. Ref just let it go long enough that Overeem was able to get up.
He clearly told him to protect the ear and that lasted for about .3 seconds. If they kept that going, Harris was going to lay there until he was out cold.
Over 1.5 means it has to go 2 rounds. They do .5 so it's under if it ends in 1 or over if it ends in 2.
That was actually a good-ass fight card (didn't watch the women fight). Surprised Overeem didn't wilt after getting dropped in the first round. Harris had no gas left in the tank so good stoppage.
I don't think it was a bad stoppage. Harris was gassed. Just feels wrong to stop it for g&p in the 2nd when the g&p in the 1st inflicted was more damage but was allowed to continue.
Would have been a profitable night without the Barbosa fuckery. Oh well. Hopes Korean baseball treats me better.
Yea, Overeem took more damage in the 1st but at all times he was defending himself. Have I seen it stopped for less? Absolutely. Would anyone have questioned a stoppage? Probably not BUT! Overeem had Harris’ back, hooks in, and had him flattened out against the cage, with only one hand to use that wasn’t effectively blocking. The ref told him to do something for like 20 seconds before calling it. Open and shut case Johnson
You can usually tell if it's a good stoppage or not based on how the fighter reacts. Harris didn't say shit. Overeem ate a few shots in the period of a few seconds. Harris took unanswered, basically undefended shots for what seemed like a full minute. He made no effort to improve his position or fight back. laying there covering part of your head for that long is always going to get the fight stopped. That's not very comparable to what Overeem did when Harris was landing on him.
If anything I thought it should have been stopped sooner. These guys will eat knuckle sandwiches until they're out cold. The last 10 or so shots to the side/back of Harris's head were unnecessary
So just read that mma over/under are based on actual time. Over 1.5 means literally halfway through second round.
So Overeem is doing something other than taking his vitamins and saying his prayers, right? 40 year olds don't typically look like that
This was only the second worst mistake of dumb betting by me in recent memory I thought soccer moneylines applied to the total outcome of the match, like every other sport. nope, just regulation.
Overeem got dropped around 3:55 in the 1st. He attempted to get up, went feet on hips, ankle lock submission attempt, escaped bottom position and got into clinch in a matter of 35 seconds. Not even 20 seconds later, he put Harris on the ground and kept him down the rest of the round. In the 2nd round, Overeem dropped Harris at about 3:30 in the round. He then got back mount and kept position for the next 90 seconds with unanswered shots and no attempt to move by Harris. Ref warned him 4-5 times to move or do something, and Harris never answered. Whether the shots are more powerful or damaging doesn't really matter. If the fighter is doing something, anything to show he's still in the fight and intelligently defending himself the ref will give them opportunities more times than not. Miragliotta did a great job handling that fight.
Long time steroid user... Overeem and Vitor Belfort back in the day were sooooo jacked. Then when USADA started testing both looked a lot different
Win or lose, I’ll still come back and dissect what went right/what went wrong (it’s bolded in the quoted post below). Those of you who haven’t really bet UFC before got a dose of the biggest problem in MMA, inconsistent and sometimes just baffling scoring by the judges. I do think it’s a problem that will eventually be fixed (perhaps a panel of 9 former refs/fighters replacing these uneducated judges). There’s certain places that are really bad, and when you have an American fighting say a Russian, in Russia, well he better knock that mother fucker out. You usually don’t win those decisions.
You just can't knee to the head of a grounded opponent. You can knee the body, legs, etc all you want It was a good stoppage from Dan imo. Walt wanted out but you can't really tap. No need for him to take 30 more headshots for no reason. He just had nothing to give and accepted he was done by laying in that position.
My bad, knew they changed the rules when grounded but I guess I fucked it up. Thanks for the correction.
