I haven't done a ton of MMA training - but good lord do people underestimate the impact of continuous solid leg kicks. If you're effective you're basically fighting against a drunk person by round 2.
casual observer take: mcgregor is 32 and doesn't have that crazy mojo anymore. poirier ate multiple solid punches to the head
Sakuraba kicked Royce in the legs for 90 fucking minutes and made him quit because he basically couldn't do anything but lay on his back by the end. they said Royce didn't walk right for a month. christ, that fight was awesome.
Not Fedor. https://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/30753772/fedor-emelianenko-hospitalized-russia-covid-19
I imagine Dustin sits for a bit while they set up a no.1 contender fight among Olivera/Chandler/Gaethje, winner gets Poirier for vacant belt.
So Conor and Dustin want to fight Diaz next it seems. I stopped watching MMA for a few years and didn't see him beat Conor. Is he really that good at this point?
even though i wanted and still wanted conor to win, i am super happy for dustin and will continue to root for him. he is a good guy
also i dont think this was talking about enough last night...wtf was hooker doing in that fight? did he throw a single punch? did the poirier fight ruin him?
I prob won’t watch the next Diaz fight, regardless of who it’s against. I liked the other poster’s idea of letting Dustin sit and doing a fight to decide his number one contender Gaethje v somebody. Gaethje likely wins. Dustin v Gaethje (who fought Dustin well) for the belt. Conor fights Ferguson people would watch the fuck out of that. Conor fights someone else in the top five. Then fights loser of Gaethje v Dustin. If he wins all that, he gets another crack at the belt. Fuck watching Nate bleed all over the mat and developing CTE right before our very eyes without anything at all on the line.
since 2018 Dustin has.. KO Eddie Alvarez KO Justin Gaethje Decision over Max Holloway Submission loss to Khabib 3rd rd Decision over Dan Hooker KO Conor McGregor
Yea, but beat Gaethje again and leave no doubt. Gaethje was giving him problems in that fight and has prob improved a bit since then.
gaethje looked absolutely awful against khabib. i know everyone does but poirier has definitely improved as well since their last fight. i want to see chandler vs gaethje
Yea, I’m not saying I think Gaethje would win, I just think it would be a damn good fight that would draw a lot of viewers. Gaethje is a bigger draw than most (Maybe I’m wrong on that tho) and I feel like Gaethje was winning on points before he got knocked out.
Dustin seemed bent out of shape that a guy would have to only fight once in the UFC before getting a title shot - got the sense he thinks Chandler needs to pay his dues like Olivera or Gaethje has.
Sounds like a combination of not thinking he's earned it and wanting big money fights with Conor or Diaz.
Makes sense. Seems like Dustin needs to fight Gaethje for the title and Olivier gets Chandler with the winner getting a title shot
Look at the resumes and honestly ask yourself who has the most to prove between Olivera and Gaethje, and whether it's right to turn Gaethje into a gatekeeper. Olivera's last 5 wins: Tony Ferguson, Kevin Lee, Jared Gordon, Nik Lentz, David Teymur Gaethje's last 5 wins: Ferguson, Cerrone, Barbosa, Vick, Michael Johnson IMO Gaethje's resume is much more impressive, and the loss to Khabib shouldn't be held against him. Olivera's win against Tony was awesome, but the Kevin Lee he faced was basically a .500 fighter by then, and there's a lot of bums on that resume.
Just finally watched Dustin vs Conor. How the fuck are people saying Conor is washed? That is such an exaggeration and disingenuous
hes won 1 fight since 2016 and been stopped in 2 of his last 3 fights and neither one seemed like a fluke. He’s 32 and wasted his prime being a total jag off.
Also in MMA when it goes, it goes fast. Seen so many fighters take that first big KO and that’s it, their chin is never the same
Yep, at this point who’s a good fight for him? Any wrestler wipes him out, Charles would kill him, Justin you think would kill him on the ground and is 50/50 on his feet. Dustin who was perfect for him just beat his ass, maybe Tony? He’s still a huge name but I don’t think he’s a top 5 division guy right now. I wouldn’t mind seeing him and Chandler throw bombs.
And there's Dos Anjos back at 155 where he belongs instead of fighting the elite of the elite at 170.
