I hate when musicians try to big dick musical conversations... buuuuttt from a guitar player perspective the palm muting of power chords, triplets, the modes used and the approach in general in earlier Ghost is very stereotypical metal. Kind of stupid to ever say otherwise.
Lol reading their wiki and Cirice won a Grammy for best metal performance. Someone let the Grammy's know that Ghost isn't a metal band and never was
ghost won their grammy on the preshow with like no one in the venue. is it bad that i watched it live?
ghost in 2013 is still the best concert i've ever been to. shitty venue that was about 95 degrees by the end with shitty security. full of dudes wearing burzum shirts and work boots, complaining about how many hipsters were in there. it was awesome
It's funny watching some YouTube videos around that time right before Meliora blew up. They're playing these shitty rock festivals and playing at like 3 in the afternoon in full makeup. Had to be hot as shit in those masks and the spooky element doesn't quite play the same in full daylight
i think i've watched every single one of those. there's one where they're wearing white robes for some reason and it looks like there are about 25 people in the crowd
my favorite stupid concertgoer memory was when a dude blew a giant cloud of smoke into the air and was dragged out of the venue 5 minutes before ghost flooded the place with smoke
I do find myself wondering at this point how important some of the members of Ghost were that got kicked out when the lawsuit stuff started happening because ever since Ghost sounds like a metal band covering Styx
I think Tobias had a great thing going with dudes he just knew from the area that he was from and he fucked it up. Henrik Palm was in an awesome band with a stupid name, In Solitude. He played guitar on Meliora and toured with them. Now he's doing some weird "no genres" thing In Solitude's guitar sounds very similar to Meliora
Yeah and I think Tobias has leaned too much into the spectacle and the joke of it all. Like they were never serious but the songs were good. It just seems like parody now
Fwiw I think Tobias is an extremely bright guy. You would never guess that English is his second language. I think he's pretty incredible in general but they've lost the plot for me.
Ghost was originally like a legit band formed by Tobias and random other guys he had been in bands with. Around 2015 he kicked them all out of the band and then they sued him for royalties. Now it's just Tobias and random other instrumentalists he's hired. It seemed kind of shitty by Tobias at the time but I don't know the dynamics of all that so who knows
"Throughout all the years we have been on tour with GHOST (between 2011- 2016 some of us have performed something like 500 shows with the band) and throughout the band's album recordings, we have neither been allowed to share in the profits of the band, nor have we seen any of the incomes accounted for. The only thing we have received have been minimal advance payments to allow the band to keep going. This despite the fact that we had an agreement that any profits should be shared fairly between the members of the band." "When we have attempted to raise the issue of the band's finances with Tobias Forge his sole response has been that there are so far no profits to be share, but that everyone will be generously compensated once the band turns a profit." "The reason that this lawsuit is now being filed is a contract dispute that has escalated during the previous year (2016). Over the last year we have received multiple proposed contracts from Tobias Forge in which he seeks to redefine his role in the band." Money. They split up over money.
i just... i don't get what he's trying to do. i don't want to see that song live. frankly i don't want to hear it again.
Load is severely underrated. Until It Sleeps, King Nothing, Hero of the Day, & Ain’t My Bitch are all great.
My mom took me to Fred Meyer and we listened to Fuel on the way home. It was a great day I think you were already at least 40 at that point so maybe it was just another day for you
Yeah, I've read some reviews, and they have further tempered my already flatlining expectations. I hope Tobias has a huge Ghost arc planned where they go back to more 70s metal than 80s ballads, because this trajectory is horrendous. If I didn't have all the other albums on vinyl, I wouldn't buy this one. Alas.
This is the one I was talking about they released like a week ago. Prob the worst Ghost song I've heard...
