Rewatching Dexter out of quarantine boredom and young Dexter throws out a "I hate the beach, the sand is nasty and gross and I want to go home" and guess which similar textbook sociopath I thought about immediately.
Leia showing up on Rebels really kills my hope that Ezra/Kanan are alive even at the point of ANH, since she's aware of these two Jedi and still tells Obi that he's her only hope. Also was curious, Ezra seems younger but he and Luke/Leia are the same age.
Not sure it’s been mentioned, but the making of doc that comes with TRoS is absolutely fantastic. Ties the film back to the original trilogy via a bunch of old footage I’ve never seen before.
I have zero desire to watch TRoS ever again unfortunately. I was just thinking about this today. Usually I can't wait for the films to come out so I can watch them at home. But this last film just killed all my enthusiasm.
Mileage varies I guess. In general I enjoy making of stuff. Movie making fascinates me. If anything it humanizes the filmmakers so maybe that allows for leeway in criticism? whether you watch tros again or not, watch this doc. It’s really good. Beautiful even.
Does it show JJ ignoring a bunch of people saying “dear god don’t do this. It’s stupid and makes no sense.”? Because that’s the making of doc I would like to see.
Finished the last two seasons (5&6) of TCW last week and moved to rebels. Hit the season 2 finale of rebels today.
Saw it again tonight for the first time since December. Same thoughts for the most part, although I was more annoyed by the Rey/Kylo battle scene because that entire sequence doesn't make sense. Why is Rey suddenly trying to kill him? Kylo goes from clearly not fighting at the start to then swinging at her. And then Rey basically murders him at the end. And then, a bit later, she's talking to Palpatine saying "all you want me to do is hate but I won't." She just a killed a guy to end a 10 rage fight. Kind of seems like hate won that one. Still some good stuff I liked. Things like that annoy me, though, and it's why a lot of the stuff they probably thought would be emotional for people just didn't land.
At least she came around and healed him. Left him for dead and I’m with completely with you. My thing with that sequence is how the hell did he get off the Death Star. I know we see a Tie when he lands in exegol but there just happened to be a working one in that rubble? the payoff of the force time stuff is insanely fun.
Nope. There are 9 movies in the Skywalker saga. Get the fuck over it. You don't have to like them. No one is making you watch them. But fuck off with this shit.
It's a fucking joke, calm down. It's a summary of the way Star Wars fans have been for twenty years. When the Episode I backlash happened, it was all "Star Wars ended with ROTJ." When the Disney trilogy backlash started it was all "Star Wars ended with ROTS." Now there's TROS backlash and people are saying "Star Wars ended with TLJ." Calm the fuck down and stop being such a blind homer.
this last episode finally gave us a hint of an overarching story, but man have I been disappointed by TCW so far.
same here it’s clear that they were slavishly devoted to the episodes/arcs that were previously disposed of the bad batch arc was at least fun but this sisters arc has been mostly annoying
I watched ROTJ a couple of days ago on Disney+, and it wasn’t as good as I remember. I think the first act of the film in Tatooine with Jabba was the best part. The second act with Ewoks, and the comedic subplot of C3PO being a “god” was a little corny for me. Regardless Luke looks the best in black (outfit) and green (saber). That’s why I never liked how Rian in TLJ had his saber the blue in the Wild West showdown with Kylo.
My guess is the blue saber was a decision based upon the fact that it was a family heirloom with kylo angrily declaring “that lightsaber belongs to me” in TFA, further fueling his rage that his most hated person in the galaxy is wielding what he believes to be his birthright Although kylo literally saw it explode 5 minutes ago so picking nits and such
Yeah it makes sense with the connection. I think I saw an interview with Rian saying Luke looked more well-kempt in the showdown with Kylo because he wanted to show the prime Luke, the Luke we remember - and maybe that was the Luke from TESB. Also maybe Luke’s green saber was “lost” in the wreckage after Ben force destroyed everything.
Luke’s appearance also tying back to further enraging kylo since i assume it was the last time he saw him (incident in the tent)
ROTJ has a lot of weaknesses but the the throne room confrontation is still amazing. I think the first half is weaker, personally, but that's mostly because I can never make heads or tails of the actual "plan" to rescue Han
Lost in a lot of ROTJ is the fact that the first time we ever see Luke after ESB, he’s rolling up all calm and shit just force choking Gamorrean guards then tries to murder jabba by force grabbing a blaster and shooting him which I don’t think would’ve killed him i personally love the opening of ROTJ, it does drag just a tad but so much cool shit in that sequence
I don’t think it’s so much that it drags as much as what the fuck is the actual plan here? The entire plan hinges on Artoo being put on the sail barge serving drinks? That seems less than ideal But that opening does show that Boba suuuuuuucks
If you keep pulling that thread the whole sweater's gonna go. It works in spite of the storytelling. It works with spectacle, charm, and fun and successfully hides its storytelling shortcomings (again, in the opening act). I suppose that's subjective, since it's more of a feeling that it worked whereas other movies that also had major storytelling flaws didn't work to me; their attempts at charm and fun and spectacle weren't enough (to me) to overcome the storytelling flaws.
because he has everything else he’s like the Mary Poppins bag of the SW universe but seriously to have Luke be unarmed when he met jabba
Right - it would be more confounding for Kylo to see Luke just the way he remembered, added with some mystique since Snoke was obsessed with finding him - instead of the grizzled, disenfranchised hermit Rey found.
Han’s role in ROTJ just seems like his character was added in after they convinced him to come back since Harrison Ford had a two-picture deal, hence him wanting to die in ESB. There was nothing significant about his character’s presence other than a few one liners and being insecure over if Leia loved him or Luke. In retrospect, Han probably should have died in ESB. A much more meaningful end for his character arc. But I get it, merchandise sells.
